Félix (habitseven) Central TX is headed for being the next Sahara. Oh, but there's nothing going on with the climate or weather patterns.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments There was a run on the grocery store for popsicles today. Scary!

Félix (habitseven) A sign of the end of days, Jackie.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments :::looks around nervously for rains of toads:::

message 116: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) It's a hard rain gonna fall.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments A hard and warty rain.

:::nods knowingly:::

message 118: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Consider the smell the next day. Oh wait ... maybe there won't be a next day ....

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Sure, there's another day. Gotta have a day for the plague of locusts, right?

message 120: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Oh right. Forgot the locusts.

But what shall we do on that very last day?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Hug everyone and eat all the pie you want?

Can I have a slice of cheese with my pie?

message 124: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Please explain the whole "cheese and pie" thing. I've heard of this sort of thing before and I'm fascinated by it. Is "cheese with pie" common? Not that there's anything wrong with it...the idea just feels...extraordinarily decadent...and I was raised Catholic...so I simply cannot abide by such pleasure without saying multiple rosaries as penance.

message 125: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) A slice of sharp cheddar on apple pie is a lovely combination.

message 126: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 30, 2009 06:03AM) (new)

A piece of apple pie without cheese is like a hug without the squeeze.

Although I've never tried it.

message 127: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) You really should, especially since you live in a dairy wonderland.

I agree with this wholeheartedly! Or Gouda with pear pie. Yum!

message 130: by [deleted user] (new)

Keep this up guys and I will be forced to try this.

message 133: by Lori (new)

Lori Cheese on apple pie? Never heard of this. I'll continue with the vanilla ice cream.

message 134: by Sandy (new)

Sandy Guire | 7 comments Cheese and pie, either way you look at it I am now very hungry! Oh great, now ice cream on the brain, too.

Same here! I'm wondering how hard it will be to bake a pie in my near totally gutted kitchen tonight...

message 136: by [deleted user] (new)

Well although I have heard of bear hugs, I was talking about the pie and cheese.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Just make sure it's apple pie and cheese, Jim. I don't think it works with pumpkin.

message 138: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Whipped cream on the pumpkin.

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Cottage cheese is good with pineapple slices - or peaches - if you're in a thrifty mode, as I often am.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I like cottage cheese with canned pears. Yum!

message 141: by Gary (new)

Gary home made whipping cream, using the mixer, and whipping it yourself, is to die for on pumpkin pie!!!! my inlaws do for thanksgiving, and now i must have it too!

i love apple pie, plain, with vanilla icecream, and yes a slice of cheese is wonderful. is that a southern tradition? like iced tea,and chess pie!
btw, when i was in new england i couldn't find iced tea anywhere, and when i ordered it in mcdonald's the girl looked at me like i was crazy. i ended up buying tea bags, and making iced tea in my motel room because i was dying for it! grow your own mint, and add the mint leaves to your suntea, or steeped iced tea, makes for a cool southern twist! (instant tea is nasty!)

Got it - cheese on the apple pie, no cheese on the pumpkin pie

message 143: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Cottage cheese & pineapple is great.
Lemon & ricotta.
Apple and brie.
Powerhouse sandwich with apple added.
I think I said this in a previous conversation about cheese, but Zu invented a dessert for her last restaurant that was fried cheesecake topped with caramelized apples.
Cheese + fruit = very very good.

message 144: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments You're BACK!!! :)

Hi Sarah Pi.

message 145: by Lori (new)

Lori Yay!

I love cheese and apples. Also cottage cheese with cantelope is divine.

Whipped cream on pumpkin pie is healthy, or so I tell myself as I go for seconds and even thirds. Calcium? Check. Beta-carotenes? Check.

message 146: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Potassium. Couldn't be bad for you, Lori!

Hi Heidi! I'm back but I'm swamped at work so I can't be too talkative yet.

It's fitting that I return on a thread about cheese.
