Sammy Goode | 5380 comments This is a discussion topic to see what the consensus is on posting multiple pics for writing prompts each month. Some months the voting is very close--others it is a wide margin between first and second place. I would love to hear your thoughts on just how many prompts you would like to have each month and why. Please be aware that sometimes the second and third place votes for a pic are either tied or so close it is only one vote difference so before you answer think this one through and give me ideas on how you would handle a two way tie for the second place picture should the group adopt the idea to go with two prompts per month as a rule. Thank you so much for taking the time to give me your feedback!!

Darren (dwite) | 359 comments I love having a choice. Sometimes there is one pic that just doesn't do it for me and that is such a shame because I LOVE writing for these prompts. So having a choice is just YAYAYAY :D

Can you give me an idea how you would handle a tied pic for second place--that is giving me concern--for I truly don't want to have three prompts per month--I feel that is spreading it a bit thin. Thanks for thinking about that conundrum!!

message 5: by Mel (new)

Mel (melleach) I think if you have a tie there's nothing wrong with including both. A tie to me indicates that our folks found each picture inspiring to them in equal measure, so maybe one picture speaks to one person while the other calls to someone else. I think choices are good.

Jennifer (Alex)--can you see what I wrote to Darren and give me your ideas as well? Thank you so much!

Jason (jason_williams) | 732 comments Agreed, having the top two I think would be good. Having options seems to encourage more participation.

I think if there's a tie for second place just flip a coin, or you can cast the tie breaking vote?

I think three as a maximum would be a good number. Not too over the top.

Mel (melleach) If you have a tie for second with more than two pictures, would a "flash vote-off" be a pain? Maybe give folks an hour or so to vote on the remaining choices? Just a thought.

I like this idea, Mel!

That is definitely a possibility--to save my vote for the end.

I'd really like to hold the number of pics to two--I feel for the number of writers we currently have invested in this topic two is a solid number.

Jason (jason_williams) | 732 comments oooh, flash vote would be good! maybe just one day of voting?

Sounds good to me.

Darren (dwite) | 359 comments What Mel said.. If you have only two pictures to battle for 1 and 2 it's no big deal, but if there are 3 close together, and if it's not too much work, yes, flash vote? I agree that 3 prompts in 1 month is too much, we don't have that many writers participating.

message 16: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Oliveira (justmypipedream) | 65 comments Mel's idea is great, a flash vote!! I was going to say that when you have a tie you could use those two pictures as a single prompt in a single thread but if the pictures are too different that could be an issue xD

message 17: by Sammy Goode (new)

Sammy Goode | 5380 comments I'm on board with a flash vote. That's a great idea!!

message 18: by Kaje (new)

Kaje Harper | 17377 comments Works for me - I like having two, now that there are multiple people writing for us (<3 you all) so there's no pressure for anyone to do a picture that doesn't speak to them. And a flash vote is fine for ties - if a picture loses it's no big deal - nominate it again next month if you loved it.

message 19: by Sammy Goode (new)

Sammy Goode | 5380 comments Just a note to everyone, I'm going to leave this thread open for comments for a few days and then speak with the other mods and come to a decision, post that decision and then close The thread. I encourage anyone who wants to to throw in their two cents here. You may not think your thoughts are different or valuable but trust me when I tell you that they spark conversations that normally wouldn't happen if you didn't share your thoughts. Thank you all so very much.

message 20: by Riina (new)

Riina Y.T. (ibxxxriina) | 469 comments I like for us to have two options every month. Like many of you pointed out, it gives us more to work with inspiration wise as well as an option to pick one or two prompts.

As for the flash vote... it's a nice idea. I wouldn't mind but I also wouldn't mind to just drop the photo that has the lesser votes (if it's a close call). If it's a tie, sure a flash vote could solve that!
I wonder if enough people will be voting then though, considering not everyone might be able to go online daily or checks in with the group regularly. Maybe only a handful of people will vote on that flash vote then.

Could it be solved with having less entries each month? I saw that there's a great number of people voting recently, which is really nice! If we had less entries, like one photo per member, I believe it would be easier to pick a winner and maybe it could help reduce the chance of having a 2nd and 3rd place tie? Maybe not.

It's not what you were asking but I've thought about this before... it's just super hard to pick a winner from so many pictures. I love posting prompt photos but it's tricky picking one from three I already love (the ones I post) and others I really like (from what you guys post).

message 21: by Rez (new)

Rez Delnava (rez_delnava) I don't think the number of pictures is an obstacle; I honestly think the number of threads should be our limiter.
Two threads, one for the first place, one for second. And if there is a tie for second, post both pictures in the same thread, Posts #1 and #2 with bold titles and four carriage returns in the post before the image, that way people can just hit reply to the one they want and post their writing.

message 22: by Sammy Goode (new)

Sammy Goode | 5380 comments Riina I have also been toying with reducing the number of pics an individual can post. I was thinking two but only one may be a better answer. I'm putting this on my question list for the other mods so we can discuss it. I also agree a flash poll would risk limiting who voted. I can say that most months the tie is rare.

message 23: by Sammy Goode (new)

Sammy Goode | 5380 comments Rez, I think that's a good idea but I'd really like to limit it to no more than two pictures per month. As Kaje said the pics can always be renominated another month.

message 24: by Riina (new)

Riina Y.T. (ibxxxriina) | 469 comments Yeah I guess the number of pictures won't stop a tie from happening. But it would perhaps make the entire voting "easier" :)

Whenever there is a tie for second place, you could post 1st place winner as scheduled and have a flash vote for second place, but maybe leave the poll open to voters for a few days, maybe even five days or so. It would give the first prompt more days for us to work with but in the greater picture that won't matter much, I think. Ah, I don't know--- *shrugs*

message 25: by Sara (new)

Sara Ella (saraellen) | 94 comments Just a small comment. I like having two pictures as it brings more stories and different ones at that. :) I just love to see everyone's inspirations and with two pictures, there is more. <3

I think if you have a tie for second. I would maybe consider bumping it to first place for the next month and then make sure people know what is going on.

message 27: by Riina (new)

Riina Y.T. (ibxxxriina) | 469 comments I'd rather get to vote for a new 1st and 2nd place prompt the coming month :/ But that's just me :)

message 28: by Sammy Goode (new)

Sammy Goode | 5380 comments If there is a tie it will go in a fast poll. I think carrying it into the next month could get messy.

message 29: by Shelley (new)

Shelley Chastagner (edcsdc) | 14 comments Simple is always best and since I'm not dealing with handling it I bow to your wisdom. I think the fast poll idea is great.
