SOLVED. YA book about two sisters who find a book with an imaginary world inside and some of the writing is ripped/scratched out, they realise the creatures in the book have come to life, a man who is part fox. [s]

ok as far as I remember this is a horror/fantasy YA book that was around before 2010. The two main characters are sisters and their mother is dead. Their family moves near a wood (I think they move there) and inside the wood are all many of strange creatures that turn out to have been created by their mother in this book that they find. at one point the girl buys a charm for a charm bracelet that is a tiny pair of real scissors and a doll uses them to attack her and her sister. Her sister seems to get drawn into this strange real-not-real world more than she does and there seems to be some dark magic going on. It was aimed at older teens, I remember it being genuinely chilling in some places. There is a charismatic character who is later revealed to have been "imagined" by their mother and I think (THINK) he's half man half fox but this could be something I've accidentally made up! I think the cover may have been red with black silhouette on it. Please please help, it's driving me mad! Thanks.
