SOLVED. Looking for a book about a Ford Mustang [s]

I'm looking for a fiction book (possibly sci-fi) that I remember reading in my teens, (1980's time frame) It was about a young man that found an old abandoned Ford Mustang and got it running. If I remember gas was hard to get, and he had to keep the car hidden. I also seem to think that the cover was black with a light blue mustang on it, the car had a white top. Thanks for any help you can give thanks.

Why was gas hard to get? Why did he have to keep it hidden? Was this dystopian?

Sorry I don't remember much more about the book. :-( it was just a shot in the dark to see if maybe someone might remember the book. Thanks in advance if anyone can help. I'll keep looking and post if I remember anything else.

Almost a a year later I finally found this book, the description is not quite what I remember so I need to get a copy to re-read. :-)
