I never used to consider myself a trend reader but lately it seems I'm being attracted to some of them. For example, quite a few books/series with a sports theme are cropping up and I'm biting. Also, books set in small towns, particularly western ones, are hitting my radar.

I'm struggling to resist these but there are other trends I'm bypassing. Such as:
1. Billionaires
2. BDSM
3. Angst-y New Adult titles

So...I'm not sure if I'm a "trend" reader but I easily tire of it when they start flooding the market.

Where are you in all this? Are there any other trends you've noticed?

Calle | 11 comments I don't really know what the trends are, I just sort of read it if it looks good. I know there's a lot of YA paranormal romance running around, which is fine by me as long as it's not vampires, because I got sick of that after Twilight. I also noticed a lot of books based on classic fairy tales recently. I don't know where that came from, but I'm not complaining.

I know I'm staying away from the Billionaires and BDSM like the plague - I know it came from 50 Shades of Gray. I know I'm going to end up reading that series, though, because I want to know what all the fuss is about (and one of my favorite actors is playing Christian Gray in the movie, so, yeah, I'm going to cave)

Word of warning...50 Shades is a trilogy with one story arc. Much ado was made about the BDSM aspect of the first book but it was just a device to launch a much broader story and theme. If you decide to read the trilogy, commit to reading all three and just know it's not really about the sex.

End of my rant:)

I have noticed a lot of YA paranormal stories out here recently. I don't read a lot of YA, just those recommended to me by friends who know what I'd like:)

I've also noticed the fairy tale themed books. I've only read Eloisa James' series, which has been around for awhile.

Thanks, Calle!

Lynn Renee Guess I'm not in the loop of what is trending. I read what catches my interest. Books that others post as read or to read on Goodreads, also some ads that are shown on Goodreads The Bird Eater is an example of a book I recently saw in an ad or suggested book (not sure which they are). I've read books from this author but didn't know about this book. I like to use Goodreads, Amazon, and Audible looking for books. My to read list is very long. I don't see myself searching for books based on what someone might say is trending.

I've read Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy which I enjoyed, but have no interest in all the books that have followed suit.

There were SO many 50 Shades wannabes for almost two years. Looks like the trend is waning though who knows what will happen when the movie is released.

Maggie | 953 comments I think I'm a sort of trend reader. For the most part I read what interests me, but if I hear of a book like 50 Shades,The Help or Twilight that lots of people are reading , I will often read it too, but I don't always continue reading the same "themed" books. I read pretty much everything except westerns and Science Fiction.

Not even Western Romance?

message 8: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 953 comments I have never tried a western romance. For the most part I don't care for westerns (the one exception to this is Larry McMurtry). If I see a cowboy hat on the cover I usually don't pick the book up. Do you have a recommendation?

message 9: by Janeiowa (new)

Janeiowa I think I'm wired to be anti-trend. ;). I don't like the current clothing trends, hair styles, nor the current book trends ----the new NA designation, vampires, werewolves, shifters, paranormal.

I stick with what I enjoy...contemporary romance and suspense with a HEA. I am happy with any setting for the book...small town, big city, ranch...are all places my favorite authors use.

I've loved Linda Lael Miller's Parable, Montana series. The first book is Big Sky Country. The first book is a little weak but I've loved the rest.
Big Sky Country (Parable, Montana, #1) by Linda Lael Miller

I had a feeling, Jane, based on what I see you reading. That's great that you don't get distracted.

Haha, Jonetta, I've jumped on all of these bandwagons.
I tend to not really get on the Paranormal trends, unless it's really good Vampire romance with some adventure elements.
