I read this book probably 5 or 6 years ago. I feel like though when I read it that the book might have been written in 1970's or 80's.

Adult reading level
A young girl has to go to work as her mother is unable to work any longer. She goes into NY and becomes a house girl or maid if you will.
After a few months she meets the son of her employer. Right away there is a spark.
However they know because of their class ranks that it will never work. (I'm thinking book starts in 20's and goes all the way through the 50's).
The woman marries someone else and over time her husband becomes pretty well secure in his job. They have a son who turns out to be a bit of a dead beat in the end.
A few yrs later she meets the son of her former employer and they have an affair. She gets pregnant by him . She talks to a priest who advises her to let her husband think it is his.
Years later the bio Dad sees the daughter at a play and knows that she is his.
Eventually the wife and husband move to the country and build a home. Daughter gets married to someone wealthy and has two sons.
Overtime the woman and her old flame become friends.
