LOL Hopefully, you've had a chance to read it some more since. This is one of the reasons why I don't like reading books electronically (in the main) - that I have to stop to recharge a device or to wait until it's recharged before I can read again.

And I've just started reading Something Wicked. In the copy I have there's an introduction by David Dirda, which I feel adds nothing to the book except a few spoilers! But I'm sure these will be forgotten once I get into the text. After that introduction, I've only read the Prologue so far.

Why do so many people love to put spoilers in the Introductions! It happens to me all the time lol. It's like they assume the person reading the intro has already read the book before, which is a weird assumption if you think about it.

I know! If there are spoilers, then it should be placed as an afterword, not an introduction.

True. It would have been fine as an afterword.

Yeah I'm pretty much the same. I usually wait until I've finished reading a book before reading the reviews unless it's a book I'm unlikely to read for some reason.

Quentin Wallace (quentinwallace) | 175 comments I do the same thing with reviews, but you'd think an introduction would be safe. I read a book of short stories not long ago and each story was based on a "twist". Well the intro gave half the twists away!

OMG That would annoy me. The spoilers in Dirda's introduction were not bad. He didn't say what happened in the end for example. But he said enough that I learned of an improbable hero in the narrative. I could've waited to find that out myself.

The worst spoilers are on movie soundtracks. When you read the names of the pieces it gives everything away, like "The burning of the castle" or "Gregor is slain" drives me nuts if I haven't seen the movie or read the book and I'm a huge soundtrack and score collector.

That said I'm on page 60, finally have time to concentrate on this.

That's why I plug mine in when I go to sleep at night.

Greg | 1680 comments Just read the first chapter. So far so good. I guess you could say it was 'atmospheric'. ;)

Graeme Rodaughan Just got out of the library....

Still early days with this book (been absolutely slammed on so many fronts, reading time is suffering...)

Greg - looks like I'm pacing you mate.

Only at p. 26 at the moment - wanted to read a short story in connection with a group read - but I'll be reading more of Something Wicked today. Hope you haven't gone on too far ahead now!

One thing: it would be great to be able to go to a library as late as 8 pm like the boys do! Apart from university libraries, most public ones in my experience close at 8 pm or even earlier.

Graeme Rodaughan Now I'm suddenly maudlin. I haven't been in a real library since university.

I do research in them but I don't think I've ever used them to read for leisure.

I know! My public library keeps really odd hours. It's better in the summer - I guess they have more traffic when school is out - but this time of year, their open times are very similar to normal business hours, so with my daily work commute, I can't even make it back to town before the library closes. I can only go on Saturdays.

It would make more sense if they opened at say 11 am and stayed open till 7 at least so that working people can actually avail of the libraries!

That's a good idea.

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) I did not know parts of the country have difficulties accessing libraries. I belong to three library systems, each is free and has dozens of associated branches, open seven days a week, all provide computers and internet for free, and all have Overdrive ebook/video/audiobook checkout.

I think it just depends on where you are and how well funded your library is. I'm in a relatively small suburban town, not big enough to justify multiple locations. We do have Overdrive, computer/internet, etc., but if I want a real book, then access is limited for people who commute to work. They stay open until 6, but my evening commute is more than an hour. I think we are able to apply for a "courtesy" library card at a larger neighboring town in the same county, but I've not looked into it yet.

Mixofsunandcloud | 538 comments I'm at about 65 percent according to kindle. I am really trying to like it. It's kind of like things that should be happening figuratively are actually happening literally.

Hoping to finish this week, its a wicked good read thought, just not something to plow through, I'm at 72%.

Greg | 1680 comments I'm up to page 80 and am enjoying it so far. If I didn't have so many other distractions I'd have it finished by now!

Finished it last night, the chapters in Part III flew and each ended with a bang! Really awesome story and best of all I got to read it because of my favorite group :)
