Usually, the mods are pretty quick with accepting your request. You just have to make sure you've entered your full birthday on your profile. You can change it back after you've been accepted but it's a requirement:
"Important Request to Join Info:
Please be sure your full birth date (day/month/year) is entered on your goodreads.com profile (privacy settings are up to the member) before you ask to join. Do not use the Goodreads mobile app to join. You can't join via the mobile app. You must join via the main website. Click the join button on the group's home page. The email process for requests to join isn't reliable so if you haven't been admitted within 24 hours, PM Stacey Jo directly with your request to join.
NOTE: Due to the adult content in this group, you must be at least 18 to join. "

M'rella beat me with this suggestion, but I've actually joined this one twice, first time early on in my time on GR, this time around I'm more excited about fantasy reading.
This group doesn't get much action but I like it: Best M/M Series: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...
There's also a group devoted to the Captive Prince series and the Gillifans of Fun With Dick and Shane renown.
Do you know how long it takes for the mods of the Fantasy group to review an invite!? I tried to join months ago but missed the fact that my profile needed to made public.
Shari-amor wrote: "Do you know how long it takes for the mods of the Fantasy group to review an invite!? Now we prefer to look at a person's profile to make sure that their age is 18+, and they actually read LGBT fiction, before approving anyone.
As an alternative, you don't need to make your profile public, just friend one of the mods or send us a PM. It's on our Home Page:
"We also respect the sometimes need for privacy so you may also send a Private Message to Moderators Coty, M'rella or Michael"
Since we've already talked here, just send a request and I will approve it as soon as I can :)

Aaah gotcha and completely understand. I would have made it public but I dont think at the time that I paid attention that that needed to be done.
And thank you much, I'll send a request now.
Ok so I'm highly annoyed. Since ARE announced their site shutdown, I went to download my books. The issue is several books that my giftees gifted me have disappeared from my library. :-(
And the damn site is running slow due to, I imagine the high volume of ppl trying to do the same as me
Shari-amor wrote: "Ok so I'm highly annoyed. Since ARE announced their site shutdown, I went to download my books. The issue is several books that my giftees gifted me have disappeared from my library. :-("Did I miss that in an email? I had no idea that they were closing down.
I just logged into my account through their app and saw this: It is with a great sadness that we announce the closing of All Romance eBooks, LLC. For the first year since opening in 2006, we will be posting a loss. Despite efforts to maintain and grow our market share, sales and profits have declined. The financial forecast for 2017 isn't hopeful. We've accepted that there is not a viable path forward.
All Romance has always been a labor of love. Over the years we've developed wonderful relationships with the vendors we've worked with, the publishers whose content it's been our pleasure to sell, the authors who supported us, and the customers who it's been our honor to serve. On midnight, December 31 our sites will go dark. Between now and then, we encourage consumers finalize any transactions, download purchases, and back up libraries.
If you directly publish content for sale through our platform or All Romance has acted as your publisher via our Publishing in Partnership program, you should be in receipt of an email from us with additional information. If not, please contact us at info@allromanceebooks.com.
Me too & some of the publishers/authors have pulled their stuff. I've lost a shit ton of stuff. My whole Lisa Renee Jones Inside Out Series! Those damn books r $8 each & I haven't read then yet. I'm so pissed @ myself for not DL them when I bought them & that is just the ones I immediately knew about.

Plus I have all this credit from rebates that I accidentally got thinking I was getting half off on books on cyber Monday so now I have to go spend all this money I was planning on saving for SS next year. >_<
Heather K (dentist in my spare time) wrote: "I back them up with Calibre!"Heather, I've never used Calibre before. Quick question: I have the ARe ebooks DL to my Kindle and when I plug in the USB, I can save those files to my computer. Is that how you save your files to Calibre?

I would go on the elfster page and start gifting random people if I had that many ebucks!

Several authors I follow on FB posted about why they are frantically removing their books. It sucks balls for us readers but I understand. Apprarently ARE were trying to keep from paying authors what they were owed so they didnt have to file for bankruptcy and any sales after yesterday wont be going to the authors.
My mind is blown! I was newer to ARe but I still can't believe they are ending in this way. Good luck to those of you who have so much to lose on there, I hope you are able to get what you've paid for!
Shannon wrote: "Oh No!! That just sucks!! Now what to do with my $180. (It was worse that I thought!!)"
Honestly, I would use them. You already paid for the books!

Every time I try to do anything, I get kicked off the stupid site. Might have to wait until the middle of the night....
Yeah the site is still moving pretty slow. I advised one of my buddies to also wait until the middle of the night.
There is almost nothing left now :( Fortunately for me, I was able to spend my ebucks on something that I know I will read. Not what I had on my wish list, but still with good ratings and in the genre that I like.
I was very sympathetic until now, not knowing what was going on, but after I read Shari's post, I am really mad. This is no way to treat loyal customers and authors! :(
Yeah I was able to finally get all my books downloaded. Thankfully I only had a handful but I feel bad for the ppl who had libraries full of books. I hope everyone could get what they could.Yeah I was feeling pretty sympathetic as well then reading a lot of what authors had to say about the situation changed that. This whole thing sucks!
I have been at this all day. Almost 12 hrs now. From spending my $150 in ebucks to downloading all my books. I just now finished. I'm exhausted. I have several duplicate copies I'll offer as gifts but I'm too tired to deal with this tonight.
Shari-amor wrote: "I never received an email either. I seen a couple of friends post about it on here."Lisa ~ Books Are My Drugs ~ wrote: "The email was sent this afternoon."
I think only authors got the email and they started posting about it on Facebook and Twitter.
My library is shrinking slowly but steadily. Thankfully, I had all my books downloaded. I lost only one pre-order book.
I wish all of you luck in securing as many books as possible and finding something to spend your ebucks on!!
Ah, it probably comes down to that notification thing from ARE again. It probably was sent to me but I didnt recognize the sender and most likely just erased it

I'd like to decide not to pay my bills but somehow I don't think that would work too well for me. :/
Lisa ~ Books Are My Drugs ~ wrote: "I'm not an author & I received an email yesterday around 2:30 pm. From info@allromance.com"I didn't get one either, and I got all my notifications from ARe usually. If Josy hadn't posted I wouldn't have known. I don't thunk they're any more organized about that than they've been about this whole thing.
I know next to nothing on the business but to my understanding, ARE retained the rights to a lot of the books on the site. I imagine that they could do what they wanted as far as royalties for authors or how they're paid. That's what it sounded like but I could be very far off
They could only retain the rights if the books were published through them. If the books were published through other houses, then the rights belong to those publishers & ARE would be used as a vendor like Amazon is. When filing bankruptcy, depending on which chapter is filed; the entity will sometimes not pay vendors. Sad but that is how to get out of debt scot free.
Gotcha. Thanks for that insight, Lisa. So the books that disappearing from the site are most likely authors who have published with another company!?
Shari-amor wrote: "Gotcha. Thanks for that insight, Lisa. So the books that disappearing from the site are most likely authors who have published with another company!?"I think so, Shari. I did a search and there are only 162 books left from Dreamspinner Press and none from NineStar Press, Carina Press or DSP Publications.
Does anyone know if the gifting function at ARe still works? I have 10 books that I need to gift to someone so they don't just disappear. =(

I'd say in this case, download them and send them via email (if they aren't secure epub it should work - I think).
