Yup, gift cards are allowed. However, actual brooks are so much more fun! ;)

Thank you! I have never heard of this side before :)

Am4u ❀ ~ AprilMarie4u ~ ❀ (aprilmarie4u) | 147 comments @Aline - You just discovered something wonderful! I love ARe, they offer a lot of rebates &/or publisher's discounts throughout the year. Also, notice the crown symbol next to books. After purchasing 10 books you get 1 free from any of the ones with a crown symbol. And they are international friendly, great gift options for long distance friendships.

~ Lei ~ Reading Is An Adventure ~ (leilanilives2read) | 345 comments And ARe is multi-format (mobi/prc or epub) although once or twice I've come across a book in only one format.

It is for ebooks though, It doesn't have paperbacks as far as I know. But it will help if your matched elf are requesting ebooks, you can gift it from here, since it's not restricted to only US only like Amazon Kindle or B&N Nook.

Francesca | 23 comments I'm excited for this! I always love doing Secret Santa anyway but a book one?! I'm in heaven! I love buying gifts for people which is why I'm probably one of the few weirdos who actually really enjoys Christmas shopping (I don't always like the other Christmas shoppers, though, they can be so rude).

Yeah, no need to worry about carpark rage on this shopping trip.

I got a couple of gift cards last year, so definitely an option. :)

Tam (cdn_tam) Oh hell, thanks for the reminder about ARe free books. I have a coupon that expires tomorrow. Time to go shopping. something expensive, not on my wish list.

Yes that's awesome, otherwise it'd be difficult to participate from different countries :/

Juli (mrsmarit) | 64 comments I went in and added some more books to my wish list. Including some audiobooks that are too low to use a credit on.

Sarah (is clearing her shelves) (sarahjf1984) ~ Lei ~ Reading Is An Adventure ~ wrote: "Are our NZer's all ok?"

I've been wondering the same thing. My aunt and uncle are in Wellington in a medium rise apartment block, but thanks to some timely retrofitting their okay and the building wasn't seriously damaged. I can't imagine the terror 2+ minutes of being in such a serious earthquake would cause. If it were me I don't think I could stay.

message 117: by Tam (last edited Nov 14, 2016 10:35PM) (new)

Tam (cdn_tam) My daughter was in Auckland and they evacuated her residence building. She was a bit shaken (us Canadians aren't used to the earth moving under your feet). But it was minor there. I know someone in Wellington who said that it was bloody scary but they ended up with little damage. I'm really surprised (and glad) that there were as few casualties as their were. Now there is flooding in Wellington, not sure from rain or increased tides. I was still surprised by how damaged Christchurch was from 2011 when I was there in July. Anyway, everyone stay safe.

message 118: by Tam (last edited Nov 15, 2016 03:47AM) (new)

Tam (cdn_tam) On a lighter note, the downside to padding my wish list is the strong desire to BUY IT NOW! I'm not very good at putting things off. LOL If I want it, I get it. Now I'm trying to wait and see. :-) But at least I won't forget that it's on the list which usually happens.

Oh hell, this wishlist thing is dangerous. I'm discovering all kinds of books I never knew existed and... eeek. I really need to read the thousand I have. LOL well, hundred...s.

Haha, I used my wish list as a buy for me list too. I would end up buying something off of it I was too impatient to wait for and then having to delete it off and add more. :) And as the wild rumpus begins and the gifting gets going, you'll find LOTS more that you want! It's completely awesome! :)

Nadine Bookaholic (nadinesobsessedwithbooks) | 195 comments ok, so I just went through my wish lists on GR and Elfter and all are up to date I only needed to remove a couple of books which isn't bad considering I have three different wishlists on Elfster ;)

That's me too. I only had two books left on my wish list from last year because I bought everything I wasn't given! LOL :)

message 128: by ❀~Amy~❀ (new)

❀~Amy~❀ (ajpayne75) | 153 comments I also have a tendency to buy books off my wishlist as fast as I add them. I'm hoping to do a better job of NOT doing that this year (but I'm not holding my breath. lol!!). I'm just now getting ready to add my wishlist on Elfster, after a serious buying spree that is, in the hopes that I have enough new and shiny books to distract me from the other new and shiny books that I want. =D

Amy, if that works, you're a stronger woman than I am, because there is never enough books! :)

Search by email address in the "find friends" section of Goodreads! That usually works for me.

I looked up who you have and they have an active GR profile. Just search "friends" by their email address on Goodreads.

I'd message them. They may own the books on their TBR list. I know I do. The only shelves I have that are books I don't own have the word 'Wish' in them otherwise I own the books so if they're like me it may not be a good idea.
