Many welcomes to you Marie! Have you tried audiobooks? They have been a blessing to so many that can't read as much as they used to. :)

message 1402: by Marie (new)

Marie | 4 comments Thanks Daphne--they HAVE been a blessing indeed! I have a very long commute (about 3 hours per day) and I'm very lucky that the place I work at has a lovely library with audiobooks to check out. Thank you for asking!

Jane De vries | 74 comments Long live audio books!

message 1404: by Sonja (new)

Sonja | 1 comments Hello :) I am new to the group also. I am new to the GoodReads community but heard about this group in particular from another internet group of friends. I look forward to learning how to participate and joining in on the fun!!!

message 1405: by Emily (new)

Emily | 3 comments Hey everyone I'm from a small town in Maine but have been living in our big city of Portland for about 2 years now. I'm an X-Ray technologist hoping to be Med school student and become a radiologist in my next 10 year plan! I am sort of stuck in a place where I keep asking if it's something I really want to do.
I love reading and I'm always stuck with a huge too be read pile!

message 1406: by Jane (new)

Jane De vries | 74 comments Thisn is a good group. Good luck!

message 1407: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Ann (jeskalillis) Hello, I am a returning member. I signed up and did some of the challenges years ago, but I want to join back in.

My name is Jessica. I currently live in Maui, Hawaii, but going to be moving soon, since the cost of living is getting to be too high for my husband and I.

I enjoy reading and have picked it up again this year. The last couple of years I have not done much reading, but so far I am reading a lot and hoping to keep that up. I also like to crochet when I am not reading.

One of my favorite things on GoodReads are the groups with challenges. Most of the groups I am involved in consist of mainly challenges. I may be a bit over my head with all of it, but it is fun!

message 1408: by Marielle (new)

Marielle (lunabaset) Hi! My name is Marielle from Virginia. I currently work for the US Marine Corps. We are not allowed electronics at work so I have had to revert back from my Kindle to paper. It was a hard transition for me since I’m used to carrying around 13,000 in less than a pound. LOL

I am single, 45, and the sole care-giver to my 82 year old mother. Reading is my escape. My other outlet is music. I currently sing with a Sweet Adeline Barbershop Chorus and a Harmony, Inc internationally ranked 5th place Barbershop Chorus. If I am not reading, I’m singing.

I read a wide – spread of topics but have found myself gravitating to fantasy lately. I have been a GoodReads member for years and really enjoy meeting and communicating with other readers.

message 1409: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Crawford (kylies_nook) | 1 comments Hi, all! I'm a College student, and I was browsing around and stumbled upon this gem. I've been reading classics and Stephen King mostly, but I'm looking forward to finding some new goodies!

message 1410: by Jane (new)

Jane De vries | 74 comments good!

message 1411: by Nickisha (new)

Nickisha (nickyjb) Hi everyone,
My name is Kerahia. I'm from Dominica (not Dominican Republic). I'm twenty six and a mother of a nine year old boy. I wear many hats including being a student, full time employee, a youth ambassador in my country, youth worker amongst others.
The only time I have to just relax and breath, is in my books, in the secret worlds hidden within the pages. I get the opportunity to forget about my busy like and step into someone else world, a world where you dare to be different. Hence the reason why I am here, on goodreads, I can set my mind free in a world of books.
Why I am in this group, I am looking for a challenge, a motivation to read new books, new genres besides my comfort zone: Romance Novels.

message 1412: by Jane (new)

Jane De vries | 74 comments Sound like a very busy person. Welcome.

message 1413: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (indiereadergirl) | 14 comments Hi everyone. My name is Hannah. This is my second try at this challenge. I didn't finish the first time or get very far. I am going to try to push myself more. :-) I'm really excited. Last year my read count was really low, 14! So I am hoping this challenge will force me to read more books. I mostly read Young Adult and Historical Fiction, although I dabble in other genres as well, but not as frequently.

Good luck, everyone!

message 1414: by Cait (new)

Cait (caitertot) | 648 comments Hello all! My name is Cait. I started out doing challenges with this group when I first joined GR nearly 10 years ago (I can't believe it's been that long!) I've been in nursing school for the past 2 years and haven't been able to read for pleasure much. However, I just graduated earlier this month and thought there's no better way to jump back into things than with a reading challenge. I currently live in Kansas with my 4 daughters (my husband is stationed in another state), but the Army will be moving us to Virginia this summer. Lots of changes going on - I'm counting on this challenge to help keep me sane. I look forward to getting to know you!

message 1415: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 1295 comments I'm so excited to see you back Cait!!! We met because of this challenge. Yay!!!

message 1416: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (shixam) I'm Tiffany, 23 (24 next month) and from California. I've been out of college for a year and have been getting back into reading after my schoolwork stole all my time so that I couldn't do anything else.

I've been in a summer reading challenge/program mood, but haven't been able to find anything locally, so I decided to start raiding Goodreads groups!

message 1417: by Lavender (new)

Lavender (purlav) | 374 comments I'm lavender. I've been an avid reader since I can remember. In the past, I have tended to not have any structure to my reading, sort of just picking books on a whim. Several years ago, I started just picking an author I liked and reading all of their books. This year, I joined a few groups that had reading challenges and started choosing books a bit less randomly. I participated in the most recent Dewey's read-a-thon and started looking for other reading challenges to join in on. This one is the most complex that I've run into. I am looking forward to see how much I can get through this summer. It is fun to have lofty goals!

message 1418: by Sara (new)

Sara | 170 comments Hi everyone! My name is Sara, I'm 28 and I live in Italy.
I seem to have a severe addiction to reading challenges and this one looks like a lot of fun, so here I am :)
I especially love reading historical fiction, classics, epic and high fantasy, non-fiction books (memoirs, biographies, journals), family saga and in general books about books.
It's a pleasure to be here and I'm really looking forward to getting started!

message 1419: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Overtoom Hello, I'm Jessi. I am a volunteer at the library, currently for the summer reading program, but hopefully I will be able to volunteer year round. I have 3 siblings, one of which also volunteers at the library. I absolutely adore reading, and began reading at a young age. I'm looking forward to the fall challenge this year!

message 1420: by MJ (new)

MJ James (bookrecluse) Hello everyone. My name is Mindy. I am 36 and a single mother of three. I have loved to read forever. I was the kid in elementary school that read through recess - and read nearly every book in our school library.
My educational background is in psychology, so I tend to read a lot of psychology books. I also love fantasy, science fiction, classics, and anything else that looks good.
I am excited to participate in the challenges as well as meet everyone.

message 1421: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 3942 comments Hi everyone I am A retired nurse living in God's Own County - Yorkshire in the UK. I love reading and will give anything a go. I belong to 2 real life book groups, One of which I actually run. I have 3 children and 6 grandchildren - 2 of the boys have moved from our beautiful County to live either side of the M25 in London. The third is based in Brussels at the moment with the RAF.

I have asked for a reader board name and looking forward to the challenges

message 1422: by Laure (new)

Laure (goodreadscomlaure) | 562 comments Hi, my name is Laure. I am a language teacher living in Scotland. I love reading in any kind of genres. I am looking forward to the Fall challenge. Already got my list sorted out for it! I think this will be a great way to go through my TBR list, and meet new people of course.

message 1423: by Justme (new)

Justme | 256 comments Blessings! Feel free to call me Jule.
I earned my Crone status last December (50). Let's see...Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Guatemala), artist, author, teacher. 1 fantabulous son... Living quietly in rural east US.
I've spent too much time on my roof in the last year. Got over my fear though! Old home repair/renovation is my nemesis.

I became a little bored in my reading last year, so this year I decided to tackle challenges & I'm glad I found your group.
My first was to dramatically increase my nonfiction reading (check). I joined & completed another challenge & am now participating in a monthly 10 book challenge. I'm going to dabble this season...learn the ropes & all...and next season - woohoo!

This is my favorite time of year, btw...

message 1424: by Milan (new)

Milan | 11 comments Hello! My name is Milena and I'm a student from France. I decided to join the Seasonal Reading Challenge because I love the idea of having tasks to complete instead of a simple reading list.

I love many genres. I will read pretty much anything that is well written and interesting, and I currently read in four languages.

Fall is my favorite season too therefore I am very excited to be joining the group right now!

message 1425: by Jane (new)

Jane De vries | 74 comments Bravo pour vous. J'adore Goodreads et Je trouve qu'i est une bonne motivation pour lire beaucoup de types de genres. This year i will read 70 books. Audiobook is a huge help and the Goodreads reviews of the books, as well as readers' reviews, help keep things interesting. Right now, I'm listening to "Hamilton" comme Je fais le menage! Bonne chance!

message 1426: by Tammie (new)

Tammie Tackett hi all my name is tammie i love to read and make friends and chat about books but one thing about me i am shy with people

message 1427: by Meisje (new)

Meisje | 2 comments Hello.

My name is Meisje. I am 31 years old. I am an avid reader. This group seems like an intriguing way to incorporate different aspects into my reading and I am looking forward to being a part of it.

Leslie Ann | 45 comments Leslie , here. I love GR and challenges . I live near Denver, Colorado. Looking forward to participating in challenges.

message 1429: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kathrynreads) | 11 comments My name is Kathryn. I live in Chicago and am either an avid reader or a non-existent one, depending on what's going on in my life. I want to participate in the challenges because it sounds fun, I want to make some progress on my large TBR pile and also, to keep me reading during those busy times. I'm married with two kids and crazy dog who has to be walked constantly to keep her remotely calm. Thank god for audiobooks!

message 1430: by N.M. (new)

N.M. (nmbrome) Hello all. I'm Naomi! 18 years old and located in California. I enjoy Music, reading ( of course), and writing. I'm also a big Movie/Tv fan. Currently a senior in high school. I'm hoping to become a teacher.

Favorite Genres:
Historical Fiction
Mystery
Thriller
Fantasy

Those are my personal favorites, but I will pretty much read anything. Can't wait to get started here!

message 1431: by Bea (new)

Bea Welcome, Naomi! Your favorite genres are right up my alley. Hope you enjoy this group.

EchoBaz(Unofficial World's Fastest Reader) | 1 comments Hey everyone, how's it going? My name is Dave, I'm in my 30's, and I love to read fantasy/sci-fi exclusively. I joined because I am indeed looking to broaden my horizons and find new books and authors that I imagine that I never would have otherwise.

..and yeah, you probably noticed the possible problem. I enjoy fantasy/sci-fi only. Anything else and I completely glaze over. But like I said, I wanna find out about new books and authors, but only in those genres. Is that alright?

message 1433: by Jane (new)

Jane De vries | 74 comments Check out the different reviews in the genre sections. And you can search by genres themselves. Goodreads is the best. My reading has become so focused!

message 1435: by LuAnn (new)

LuAnn (luannbraley) | 1 comments Hi all! I am LuAnn from Crab Orchard, Kentucky. I've done a lot of reading and reviewing over the last several years, but it has started to get a little 'same-y' so I'm looking to expand my reading horizons.

Mysteries (esp. 'cozies') are my favorites, but I like a little bit of everything, really. Helps keep things fresh. :O)

message 1436: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Hi, I am back :D

Can't wait to get started and back into the swing of things for reading. I've since moved house (downsized as we only have the 1 child left at home now).

So let's hope I can get back into reading :D

message 1437: by Shanna_redwind (last edited Dec 09, 2016 06:53AM) (new)

Shanna_redwind | 754 comments Hi, I own and run a market garden farm with my husband. During the summer I listen to a lot of audiobooks to pass the time. Right now is our slow time so I have time to read print books Mostly I enjoy sci-fi and fantasy, though I'm willing to try pretty much anything.

I always have a huge problem deciding what to read next, so challenges help keep me in the groove.

message 1438: by Matisse (new)

Matisse Hello!
My name is Matisse, I am almost 23 years old, and the mother of a beautiful daughter, who is just as big of a book nerd as I am!

I love reading! I try to challenge myself every year to read different books and more books. This has always been a part of my life, and even when most 12 year olds were off doing things with their friends, going to the mall or something like that, you would find me in 3 different places normally; at the library, in my room reading, or climbed up a tree where I found a perch to read in.

As I have gotten older, many things have come in and out of my life, but reading has always been there. And as life gets more busy, the harder it is for me to read at the same speed that I was at 2 years ago. And I want to challenge myself to read new books and books that I own that I haven't read yet.

Challenges have helped me keep with my schedule and I am guessing that I will work just as hard, if not harder to keep up with the challenges.

Thanks to everyone who has put this together and kept it running, I am excited to participate!

MaryAnn (EmilyD1037) Hello everyone ! My name is MaryAnn. I have requested the name EmilyD1037.

I am 64, retired/disabled, married for 34y, mother and grandmother, I live in Colorado, USA.

I have been reading all my life. I have gotten really "sloppy" about it since the computer but am trying to get back into reading and expand my reading territory.

My usual choices of books are mysteries (esp cozy), biographies, memoirs, and autobiographies, non-fiction, historical fiction. I love poetry, especially Emily Dickinson, Catholic spiritualties and theology

I am trying to get into reading classics, modern lit. They are a new interest of mine, since some groups on GR.

Looking forward to being in this group.

message 1442: by Diana (new)

Diana (dham) | 18 comments Hello! My name is Diana. I am a stay at home wife and part time nanny (very part time). I have always had a love of reading, but found that in the past few years I have been reading a lot less than I used to. I am hoping this challenge will reignite that love again.

I live in Alaska. North Pole, Alaska to be exact (yes, it is an actual town). My husband is a contractor for the military and we plan to be in Alaska for the foreseeable future.

I have been part of Goodreads for a while, and have been able to see how much my reading has slid to the back burner. This is my first challenge, and like I said, I am hoping this is the jump start I need to get back into reading!

message 1443: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie Hi, I'm Jaimie. I'm in my 30's, married, two kids under 5, and I live in Washington state.

With two little ones, I haven't had much time to read (or have any hobbies, really!). As they get older, I've been able to find more time for myself, so I eased my way back into doing things for fun with a reading challenge for 2016. I read 50 books this year and got introduced to lots of new authors and genres I now love. Now I'm hooked on reading challenges!

message 1444: by Jane (new)

Jane De vries | 74 comments The challenge is a great motivator.

message 1445: by Giulia (new)

Giulia (giubodanese) | 2 comments Hello!
My name is Giulia, I'm 19 and I'm from southern Brazil, so I'm sorry for the grotesque mistakes in my English that I can eventually make (I understand perfectly though). I'm getting into Goodreads now, so I'm still organizing the shelves. This group fell from the skies to me that since entering college, I study psychology, I have been very unmotivated with my readings. I hope to be able to resume my love of reading, meet many new books and make friends with other book lovers. I'm very excited to be here!

message 1446: by Sara (new)

Sara | 2 comments Hi everybody. I'm Sara. I'm from Egypt and I am a student in Alexandria faculty of medicine. This is the first time I join an online book club.I hope I have a fun experience with you all and I hope we become good friends :D

HI there! My name is Sarah although my username is Clutterbooke because there are a lot of people named Sarah in this world. I'm a software consultant living in Portland, Oregon. I've joined this group in an attempt to get out of my reading rut.

message 1448: by Imane (new)

Imane (booksaccino) Hello! My name's Imane and I'm a 20 year old medical student from Morocco. I haven't always been into reading but I fell in love with it a few years back. I've joined this group to be able to discuss current reads and perhaps discover books I haven't heard of before.

message 1449: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina The Book Lover Hi everybody, I'm Sabrina and I'm a 42 year old IT consultant from Belgium, the land of beer and chocolate.
I have always loved reading, even as a kid you could always find me with my nose in a book. I like a variety of genres, but I mostly read mysteries, historical romance and historical fiction. I also read a fair bit of non-fiction, mostly about mountaineering, maritime disasters and English history.
I'm looking forward to talking books with everybody here!
