INTRODUCTIONS

My name is Jim. I am 50 years old and was born, raised and still live in New Jersey, USA. I work full-time for the U.S. government.
I joined this group about 20 minutes ago and am still looking around. A member of several Goodreads groups, I love reading challenges and read fiction, science fiction, fantasy, nonfiction, westerns, sports, and travel books, among others.
Currently I am reading a book for a challenge from another GR group. This book isThe Black Company and is part of a three-volume omnibus, Chronicles of the Black Company.
Jim

If anyone would like to add me as a friend, please do so.....
Good luck to everyone!

My name is Gesa and I live in Germany and turn 25 in Feb this year ^^
I read mostly fantasy books from Game of Thrones to unknown german authors like Kai Meyer and Markus Heitz. My first book for my big book collection was Interview with a Vampire when I was around 15? And I still love Vampires ^^
I joined because I love challenges, even if I don't complete them in time, I always love to pick the "biggest version" just for the fun of figuring out the books, hope that is also okay for this group. Its just for fun and I always say so in my posts if thats the matter.
Don't know what to tell you else about me, so feel free to ask...

I work full-time as a Kickboxing instructor and I love to play board games with my husband. In my free time I also love to read, of course. I have a fairly large book collection and I am excited to expand my horizons with books and find some new great reads by doing the challenges in this group.

I've always been a voracious reader and often wish for more time to read even more books than I already manage to do. I have fairly diverse tastes but my favourite genres are crime/thrillers, historical fiction, historical biography and well written fantasy novels. If friends ask me to name a favourite book or even a favourite author it's an impossible task - a top ten would be hard enough!
Apart from reading I also love art, travel (to Italy especially) and hiking in the beautiful British countryside. Walking is even more fun with a great audio book.

What a great idea for a reading group and what a lot of work for the moderators....kudos to them!
My name is Barbara, and I live in Calgary, Alberta. I am a single mom of a 13 year old boy, who also loves to read, and we have 2 cats and 2 dogs between us. I know, I know, crazy, but chaos is the rule around here;)
I love to read and challenges make it even more fun, plus it helps get books off my TBR shelf!
I'm going to try my hand at your Winter Challenge 2013/2014 and see if I get the hang of your criteria. It looks a bit intimidating but I'm going to make a go of it anyways.
Wish me luck!!

my name is Marybeth Brunson and i have four months left in high school. I am an avid reader. i will read just about everything but i am most interested in young adult fiction. I am always trying to find new series to read and goodreads is a great place for that. it will be hard for me to do the challenges and stuff due to me living in a residential place for kids but i do get to go home every weekend so i go to the library when i can. It is a litle hard getting ready to read because i dont have all the time to read due to geting ready for college and lots of hw to do. i am currently reading the iron fey series though and i really love it except i dont like main character because of the second book but whatever. i am still trying.

I have a fond place in my heart for Stephen King and Scandinavian crime novelists, and generally flee from Romance novels. I'd rather read a great book than eat, drink, or sleep.

My favorite books are J.R. Ward and Sherrilyn Kenyons dark hunter and BDB series. I have recently found a love for indie authors especially Penelope Ward and K.I. Lynn..
I love challenges and this one intimidates me a little so I think I am going to watch until March and start the next one :)

I love to read pretty much anything and often have more than one book going at a time. (This really annoys my husband :-P) I also love to run, zumba, crochet and knit. I know weird combinations, right?
I am trying to get better about reviewing the books I read but sometimes I simply rate them and thats all.
Feel free to message me or friend me I love to talk to new people!!!
Look forward to reading about all of you!!!

My favorite books are historical fiction. I also read a lot of books my kids are reading so we can discuss them together.
I am looking forward to challenging myself to read more of a variety.

I just finished college and am looking for a job I can use my English degree in, so as of now, I have a lot of time on my hands to read the books I couldn't while in school. I currently work part-time at Dippin' Dots.
I've loved reading since I was a kid. I was one of those kids that always looked forward to silent reading time, or sitting on the carpet in the corner of the classroom to read. This year I'm aiming to read 100 books! I'm really looking forward to this challenge! Thanks for making it!

While I know many women who are addicted to buying shoes, handbags, etc., I have been spared that need and in turn have an addiction to books : ) And with an iPad and Kindle, I can neatly stash my collection into such a small space. I am constantly reading and love to read a variety of books, but in particular I am drawn to historical fiction, some YA, fantasy, memoirs and literary fiction.
I'm always up for new books to review and am somewhat new to goodreads and would also be interested in adding new friends, as I like to see what different people are reading and their insight, and I like to peek at the different shelves to find interesting reads. So anyone interested in sharing their book updates then please add me.

My name is Tassie, and I'm a high school social studies teacher in Maryland. I'm married to a ska musician, have two dogs, two cats and a serious addiction to book. Last time I counted, seven of my tattoos have to do with books, reading, or particular authors.
I've been looking at this group for a couple of weeks, and decided to take a stab at the winter challenge. I think, more than anything, I'm going to try fitting what I read into the challenge, rather than basing my reading from the challenge list. I'm curious how many points I can garner from what I was going to be reading anyway. Perhaps the group will lead me to read things I might not otherwise try.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone else's adventures.

My name is Bridget, and I am originally from the Pittsburgh area. Currently I am living the gypsy life. I am a traveling nurse, which means I take short term assignments at different hospitals all over the US. My specialty is the emergency room. I travel with a dog, a cat, and my kindle. I will read almost anything, but my favorite genres are historical fiction, historical nonfiction, mysteries, science fiction, and of course trashy romances. I also love playing games, watching historical movies and documentaries, and genealogy. I really liked the challenges with this group. I'm hoping it may broaden my horizons a little.
Hi Group
I just joined GR and this group. The challenge idea sounds fun and I like the changing ideas every few months, which should add some interest ,also .
I read quite a wide variety of books depending on my mood .
I'm a housewife ,family all raised , and plenty of spare time to read.
Looking forward to getting started on the Spring Challenges , and also to meeting new people here .

Hi Jane
Thank you for the welcome . Yes , I guess you could call it voluntary that I'm a housewife . I'd actually love to have my job back , but have too many health problems to hold a job, so I have to be content to stay at home . Having lots of books to read and a nice group to share them with makes it a bit easier . :)
Nice to meet you .

I have been a member of this group for a while now except this Spring 2014 Challenge is the first I am participating in!
A bit about me... I'm 22 years old, I just graduated college last May and am taking the year off before going back to school to become a Vet Tech. I technically work full time as a bus driver for Northern Illinois University (where I just graduated) but my hours are 6:30am-2pm so I have A LOT of free time to read!!
I love animals (as you could probably guess since I'm going to be a Vet Tech) I have a 7 year old rabbit named Timmy, two budgies named Ducky and Peatree who are about 2.5 years old (like The Land Before Time!) and a 3 year old betta fish named Kora.
Aside from reading and animals I like to cook and do some crafts to brighten up my apartment!
I'm excited for this challenge!

I am a voracious reader, afflicted with malignant bibliomania (but I'm not looking for a cure!). I participate in six (yes, 6) F2F book discussion groups as well as numerous groups on shelfari.com and goodreads.com. I read just about anything with words, but I prefer literary fiction, and really try to avoid paranormal, romance, dystopian and fantasy.
I grew up in Texas, but came to Marquette University at age 17 and fell in love with winter that first year. I've lived in Wisconsin ever since.
I'm married, no kids, no pets. I work full time in healthcare administration. In addition to reading, in my spare time I enjoy cooking, gardening, travel, music and theatre (especially musicals - from opera to revues).
I heard about this challenge through another group and once I checked it out I thought I might like to give it a try. I'm sure it will take me a week or more to plan my reading, and I'm assuming I can then back-date any books I started/read since March 1st for the Spring Challenge.

I'm Pat - retired school teacher living in central Oklahoma. I've been a lazy reader the past few years, and I feel like my brain has turned to vegetable mush. I've set a 100 book goal for 2014, found Goodreads through a search for suggested reading material. I'm a fast reader (400-600 wpm) so I typically devour books like a forest fire consumes dead brush. I'm looking forward to playing through these challenges. I can already feel my mind going from vegetable to vegetative on its way to meditative! Thanks for providing the fun!

Peter ... I'm in Wisconsin (and could be your grandma). Always happy to talk books with a fellow Wisconsinite (or anyone else ... LOL)
You mention "leaving the reality of life for an hour or so." - What genre are your writing in? What genre(s) are you reading?

Have you read Tayari Jones's books? I really enjoyed both Silver Sparrow and The Untelling.

Victoria ... I belong to a book club here in Milwaukee that reads ONLY Latino works. Members might read in Spanish or English, but our discussions are in English. Would love to have some suggestions from you.

I absolutely love reading. It is tied for my favorite hobby (along with traveling). I'm most addicted to romance, both contemporary and historical, and cozy mysteries. I also enjoy British classics like Jane Austen, non-fiction travelogues, and adventure-action-mysteries like James Rollins.
I'm very excited to join this group, and can't wait to start the summer challenge! :)

Well hello people!First off,it's fascinating to know that so many people from different regions are members here! Exciting,it is! More so because I didn't come across many people from my country as of now!
oooh so that's me-blabbering on and on!damn!sorry!
So hey! I'm Naura :)I'm 19(and,would you believe it? I don't see anyone who's 19 either!)and I'm a college-goer doing my bachelor's in psychology and literature! There,so yes I simply love reading. I got really hooked on to books when I was 11 and I'm still the same! I love most genres and I've read quite a large number of books;although, there are a million more that I want to read!favourites,I have many. And I'd like to make a mention of ENID BLYTON here. Her books where my best companions in my childhood and I was mesmerized by the european culture. It was totally different from mine.
Anyway,I'm someone who is extremely reluctant to put down a book once I begin. Which is why, this whole concept of challenges is just awesome!
I'm new to the group so I'm still finding my way around.Looking forward to some great reading and interesting discussions!
Anyway,I think it's just about time to shut up.So,ta-ta!
and yes Namaste again!
Oh yes,I'm Indian. And I'm eagerly looking forward to interacting with you westerners:)
