Naura Namaste!

Well hello people!First off,it's fascinating to know that so many people from different regions are members here! Exciting,it is! More so because I didn't come across many people from my country as of now!
oooh so that's me-blabbering on and on!damn!sorry!

So hey! I'm Naura :)I'm 19(and,would you believe it? I don't see anyone who's 19 either!)and I'm a college-goer doing my bachelor's in psychology and literature! There,so yes I simply love reading. I got really hooked on to books when I was 11 and I'm still the same! I love most genres and I've read quite a large number of books;although, there are a million more that I want to read!favourites,I have many. And I'd like to make a mention of ENID BLYTON here. Her books where my best companions in my childhood and I was mesmerized by the european culture. It was totally different from mine.
Anyway,I'm someone who is extremely reluctant to put down a book once I begin. Which is why, this whole concept of challenges is just awesome!

I'm new to the group so I'm still finding my way around.Looking forward to some great reading and interesting discussions!

Anyway,I think it's just about time to shut up.So,ta-ta!
and yes Namaste again!

Oh yes,I'm Indian. And I'm eagerly looking forward to interacting with you westerners:)

S'long!

Jim Townsend | 46 comments Good afternoon,

My name is Jim. I am 50 years old and was born, raised and still live in New Jersey, USA. I work full-time for the U.S. government.

I joined this group about 20 minutes ago and am still looking around. A member of several Goodreads groups, I love reading challenges and read fiction, science fiction, fantasy, nonfiction, westerns, sports, and travel books, among others.

Currently I am reading a book for a challenge from another GR group. This book isThe Black Company and is part of a three-volume omnibus, Chronicles of the Black Company.

Jim

message 1003: by Julie (new)

Julie I already introduced myself a while back, but wanted to say hello to everyone & mention how awesome I think this group is!

If anyone would like to add me as a friend, please do so.....

Good luck to everyone!

message 1004: by Gesa (new)

Gesa (mistchild) | 2 comments Hey, just joint and still not sure if I'm really fitting in here ^^
My name is Gesa and I live in Germany and turn 25 in Feb this year ^^

I read mostly fantasy books from Game of Thrones to unknown german authors like Kai Meyer and Markus Heitz. My first book for my big book collection was Interview with a Vampire when I was around 15? And I still love Vampires ^^

I joined because I love challenges, even if I don't complete them in time, I always love to pick the "biggest version" just for the fun of figuring out the books, hope that is also okay for this group. Its just for fun and I always say so in my posts if thats the matter.

Don't know what to tell you else about me, so feel free to ask...

message 1005: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 9 comments Hi, my name is Brittany and I am super excited about the seasonal reading challenge! I am always looking for new fun reading challenges. I have loved reading since I was a little girl and my mom used to take me to the library every week as a treat.

I work full-time as a Kickboxing instructor and I love to play board games with my husband. In my free time I also love to read, of course. I have a fairly large book collection and I am excited to expand my horizons with books and find some new great reads by doing the challenges in this group.

message 1006: by KSMary (new)

KSMary | 1181 comments Welcome, everyone! So nice to see new people join the challenge. I will never finish one but it's fun to fit books in that I wouldn't normally pick up.

message 1007: by Mave (new)

Mave | 110 comments Hi! I'm Veronica and I live in Rome, Italy.I love to read and explore different genres. I'm looking forward to the challenges and maybe I can be introduced to some books I may not have read otherwise. This group looks like fun so here I am.

message 1008: by Cj (new)

Cj Hiiii hello. My name is CJ and I've been wanting to join a book club for a few years now, I think I'll start here! I love to read whenever I can, and I try to read a little bit of every genre. Mystery, Historical Fiction, Biographies, Non-fiction, etc. I am 24, work full time as a packaging engineer, living just outside NYC, aaaand I also like to ski, listen to music, and hang out with my family and friends. Looking forward to joining this group and hopefully having some discussions with other readers about common books!!

message 1009: by A (new)

A H Hi all!:) I'm Ruchi, and I live in India. I'm 14, in 9th std, about to go to 10th and currently juggling between studies, studies and studies:D:D But my love for books is too big, I love to read! and I'm really excited about joining this group and taking part in the challenges!!:)

message 1010: by Zoe (new)

Zoe | 14 comments Hi, I'm Zoe. I live in Stourbridge which is a nice town in a part of England called The Black Country where we like to claim that we have more canals than Venice! I work for an architectural firm in Birmingham (UK's second city and home to an amazing, awe inspiring new library).

I've always been a voracious reader and often wish for more time to read even more books than I already manage to do. I have fairly diverse tastes but my favourite genres are crime/thrillers, historical fiction, historical biography and well written fantasy novels. If friends ask me to name a favourite book or even a favourite author it's an impossible task - a top ten would be hard enough!

Apart from reading I also love art, travel (to Italy especially) and hiking in the beautiful British countryside. Walking is even more fun with a great audio book.

message 1011: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (worthwhilereading) Good morning All
What a great idea for a reading group and what a lot of work for the moderators....kudos to them!

My name is Barbara, and I live in Calgary, Alberta. I am a single mom of a 13 year old boy, who also loves to read, and we have 2 cats and 2 dogs between us. I know, I know, crazy, but chaos is the rule around here;)

I love to read and challenges make it even more fun, plus it helps get books off my TBR shelf!

I'm going to try my hand at your Winter Challenge 2013/2014 and see if I get the hang of your criteria. It looks a bit intimidating but I'm going to make a go of it anyways.

Wish me luck!!

message 1012: by Marybeth (new)

Marybeth (narutofan14) HI,
my name is Marybeth Brunson and i have four months left in high school. I am an avid reader. i will read just about everything but i am most interested in young adult fiction. I am always trying to find new series to read and goodreads is a great place for that. it will be hard for me to do the challenges and stuff due to me living in a residential place for kids but i do get to go home every weekend so i go to the library when i can. It is a litle hard getting ready to read because i dont have all the time to read due to geting ready for college and lots of hw to do. i am currently reading the iron fey series though and i really love it except i dont like main character because of the second book but whatever. i am still trying.

message 1013: by Kim (new)

Kim Helloooooo! My name is Kim, I live in SFL, and I've loved reading for as long as I could read (or so I'm told). I enjoy reading a variety of genres, but lean towards crime fiction, historical fiction, fantasy, horror.

I have a fond place in my heart for Stephen King and Scandinavian crime novelists, and generally flee from Romance novels. I'd rather read a great book than eat, drink, or sleep.

Angel **Book Junkie** My name is Angel; I am 33 years old and I am a full time manager at a direct bank and I am also a Junior in college for my Bachelor in business administration with a minor in Human Resources. I am a **Book Junkie** hence the chosen name for GoodReads. I love books and I read 925 last year. I love my family and I love to shop. I am addicted to e-bay almost as much as Amazon. I live in Virginia.

My favorite books are J.R. Ward and Sherrilyn Kenyons dark hunter and BDB series. I have recently found a love for indie authors especially Penelope Ward and K.I. Lynn..

I love challenges and this one intimidates me a little so I think I am going to watch until March and start the next one :)

We live in a small town in farm country Ohio. I love knitting, reading, playing games, hanging out with friends and family, and love being out in the great outdoors. I am happy to have found this group and am hoping it will motivate me to read even more and help me find some fellow book fanatic friends, as I am the only one in my friends and family who wont be caught without a book and loves talking about them!

Kara (karajo) | 2 comments Hi Everyone!! My Name is Kara. I am 25 and pregnant with my first child. I am a full time Mobile X-ray technician and an online fitness coach:)

I love to read pretty much anything and often have more than one book going at a time. (This really annoys my husband :-P) I also love to run, zumba, crochet and knit. I know weird combinations, right?

I am trying to get better about reviewing the books I read but sometimes I simply rate them and thats all.

Feel free to message me or friend me I love to talk to new people!!!

Look forward to reading about all of you!!!

message 1021: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 3 comments Hi! My name is Betsy and I am 37 and currently living outside of Austin, Texas. I have 2 fantastic teenagers.

My favorite books are historical fiction. I also read a lot of books my kids are reading so we can discuss them together.

I am looking forward to challenging myself to read more of a variety.

message 1022: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea Barnthouse Hello, I'm Chelsea. I joined this group today because it seemed very interesting.

I just finished college and am looking for a job I can use my English degree in, so as of now, I have a lot of time on my hands to read the books I couldn't while in school. I currently work part-time at Dippin' Dots.

I've loved reading since I was a kid. I was one of those kids that always looked forward to silent reading time, or sitting on the carpet in the corner of the classroom to read. This year I'm aiming to read 100 books! I'm really looking forward to this challenge! Thanks for making it!

message 1023: by Jenna (last edited Jan 24, 2014 11:53AM) (new)

Jenna (pumpkininny) Hi everyone! My name is Jenna and I live in North Carolina. I have travelled the world and have lived in Chicago, San Diego, and Los Angeles, but will always call NC home.

While I know many women who are addicted to buying shoes, handbags, etc., I have been spared that need and in turn have an addiction to books : ) And with an iPad and Kindle, I can neatly stash my collection into such a small space. I am constantly reading and love to read a variety of books, but in particular I am drawn to historical fiction, some YA, fantasy, memoirs and literary fiction.

I'm always up for new books to review and am somewhat new to goodreads and would also be interested in adding new friends, as I like to see what different people are reading and their insight, and I like to peek at the different shelves to find interesting reads. So anyone interested in sharing their book updates then please add me.

message 1024: by Tassie (new)

Tassie | 62 comments Hi everyone.

My name is Tassie, and I'm a high school social studies teacher in Maryland. I'm married to a ska musician, have two dogs, two cats and a serious addiction to book. Last time I counted, seven of my tattoos have to do with books, reading, or particular authors.

I've been looking at this group for a couple of weeks, and decided to take a stab at the winter challenge. I think, more than anything, I'm going to try fitting what I read into the challenge, rather than basing my reading from the challenge list. I'm curious how many points I can garner from what I was going to be reading anyway. Perhaps the group will lead me to read things I might not otherwise try.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone else's adventures.

message 1025: by Bridget (new)

Bridget | 4 comments Hi all.
My name is Bridget, and I am originally from the Pittsburgh area. Currently I am living the gypsy life. I am a traveling nurse, which means I take short term assignments at different hospitals all over the US. My specialty is the emergency room. I travel with a dog, a cat, and my kindle. I will read almost anything, but my favorite genres are historical fiction, historical nonfiction, mysteries, science fiction, and of course trashy romances. I also love playing games, watching historical movies and documentaries, and genealogy. I really liked the challenges with this group. I'm hoping it may broaden my horizons a little.

message 1026: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Group
I just joined GR and this group. The challenge idea sounds fun and I like the changing ideas every few months, which should add some interest ,also .
I read quite a wide variety of books depending on my mood .
I'm a housewife ,family all raised , and plenty of spare time to read.
Looking forward to getting started on the Spring Challenges , and also to meeting new people here .

Hi Jane
Thank you for the welcome . Yes , I guess you could call it voluntary that I'm a housewife . I'd actually love to have my job back , but have too many health problems to hold a job, so I have to be content to stay at home . Having lots of books to read and a nice group to share them with makes it a bit easier . :)
Nice to meet you .

message 1029: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kelleenie) | 14 comments Hello! My name is Kelly.
I have been a member of this group for a while now except this Spring 2014 Challenge is the first I am participating in!

A bit about me... I'm 22 years old, I just graduated college last May and am taking the year off before going back to school to become a Vet Tech. I technically work full time as a bus driver for Northern Illinois University (where I just graduated) but my hours are 6:30am-2pm so I have A LOT of free time to read!!

I love animals (as you could probably guess since I'm going to be a Vet Tech) I have a 7 year old rabbit named Timmy, two budgies named Ducky and Peatree who are about 2.5 years old (like The Land Before Time!) and a 3 year old betta fish named Kora.

Aside from reading and animals I like to cook and do some crafts to brighten up my apartment!

I'm excited for this challenge!

message 1030: by Book Concierge (last edited Sep 17, 2014 12:04PM) (new)

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 4447 comments Hello, my name is Tessa (or BC if you prefer).

I am a voracious reader, afflicted with malignant bibliomania (but I'm not looking for a cure!). I participate in six (yes, 6) F2F book discussion groups as well as numerous groups on shelfari.com and goodreads.com. I read just about anything with words, but I prefer literary fiction, and really try to avoid paranormal, romance, dystopian and fantasy.

I grew up in Texas, but came to Marquette University at age 17 and fell in love with winter that first year. I've lived in Wisconsin ever since.

I'm married, no kids, no pets. I work full time in healthcare administration. In addition to reading, in my spare time I enjoy cooking, gardening, travel, music and theatre (especially musicals - from opera to revues).

I heard about this challenge through another group and once I checked it out I thought I might like to give it a try. I'm sure it will take me a week or more to plan my reading, and I'm assuming I can then back-date any books I started/read since March 1st for the Spring Challenge.

message 1031: by Jane (new)

Jane De vries | 74 comments Hi tessa. if you want to add tons of books to your challenge, try novellas. That's what i do. Can read quality stuff and get a feel for many great authors.

message 1032: by ♞ Pat (new)

♞ Pat Gent | 786 comments Hi everyone.

I'm Pat - retired school teacher living in central Oklahoma. I've been a lazy reader the past few years, and I feel like my brain has turned to vegetable mush. I've set a 100 book goal for 2014, found Goodreads through a search for suggested reading material. I'm a fast reader (400-600 wpm) so I typically devour books like a forest fire consumes dead brush. I'm looking forward to playing through these challenges. I can already feel my mind going from vegetable to vegetative on its way to meditative! Thanks for providing the fun!

message 1033: by Jane (new)

Jane De vries | 74 comments I'm semiretired and started reading more quality books around 2 years ago. although i love my chick lit - especially Belva Plain - need to keep the old brain cells moving. Good luck!

message 1034: by Gianna (new)

Gianna | 2 comments Hello, everyone! I'm Gianna. I live in NY, on Long Island. I just joined the group a couple days ago. I absolutely love anything that is involved with books. I'm a freelance beta reader and editor. My best friend is about to publish her first book in April...I helped with the beta reading and editing. And I'll be promoting it everywhere that I can. I've worked for a couple best selling authors as well. I also write myself and will hopefully have my first book published within the next 18 months. Beyond books, I'm a wife and mother. I'm an assistant coach for my daughter's softball team (the reason I'm not participating in the current challenge here). I've been married almost 4 years but have been with my husband for almost 13 years now and our daughter turns 12 soon. I love to cook...I create my own 'recipes'. If I'm ever asked how to make something I have guesstimate measurements because I was taught by my grandmother to use my eyes and nose LOL. And that applies to cooking times too. I also crochet when I get the inspiration. Even though I live in NY my Ohio roots are still deep. Yes, the accent comes out at times (my husband loves when that happens) and I do still use all those 'wacky' phrases from back home. Anything else you want to know, just ask.

message 1035: by Peter (last edited May 04, 2014 09:01PM) (new)

Peter Gulgowski (petergulgowski) Hello fellow literary enthusiasts! I'm Peter, I'm nearly eighteen years old and I live in Wisconsin; soon to be in North Dakota for college. (I haven't graduated in terms of weather ;) ) I love books and I love leaving the reality of life for an hour or so. With work and school, I unfortunately don't get as much time as I'd like to read, but I always have a book going on any given day. In my free time when I am not at school or work (which lately seems like never,) I am writing the final installment in a four book novel series! I plan to take at least a month off as I have been working on these for four years. Then, I will begin to plan a new novel of which I have had in my head for two years. I am excited for the next journey. Anyways, I am looking for any "reader friends." I would love for all of you to add me as a friend, and we can discuss books and characters. I get on here everyday and try to review books I have read, and having more "reader friends" might just inspire me to do a bit more reading than my usual. I hope to get to know you, so don't be shy! All the best!

Victoria ... I belong to a book club here in Milwaukee that reads ONLY Latino works. Members might read in Spanish or English, but our discussions are in English. Would love to have some suggestions from you.

message 1044: by Jane (new)

Jane De vries | 74 comments No estudio mucho pero tengo amigas latinas. i must read 100 years of..... muy pronto because everyone is talking about it! Now that i am a serious reader, i always find it helpful to read the bios of the authors first. Many works are autobiographical to some extent and i find it interesting to see the frameworks from whence the authors talk! Also, Classics are good because what goes around comes around. Something like Tess of the D'urbervilles (Thomas hardy) or Scarlet letter (Hawthorne) shows what life was like before women's rights and why there needed to be a change. Sort of like a social commentary - verdad?

I absolutely love reading. It is tied for my favorite hobby (along with traveling). I'm most addicted to romance, both contemporary and historical, and cozy mysteries. I also enjoy British classics like Jane Austen, non-fiction travelogues, and adventure-action-mysteries like James Rollins.

I'm very excited to join this group, and can't wait to start the summer challenge! :)

message 1046: by Jane (new)

Jane De vries | 74 comments Parlez-vous Francais? Don't know why Jane Austen is so popular, but evidently she is! I am a travelogue nut myself, especially Rich Stevens and the Visions series.

message 1047: by Shauna (new)

Shauna | 160 comments Oui, je parle le français! Un peu. Un petit peu. :) My favorite Jane Austen is Mansfield Park. I never really got into Pride and Prejudice. I also like the Brontë sisters, some Charles Dickens, and Alfred Tennyson. I don't really have a favorite travelogue author or series, but I am most drawn to those set in Europe. I will have to check out Rich Stevens and the Visions series - thanks!
