message 852: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 354 comments Hi everyone. I'm Allison and I live in the middle of nowhere, NW Ontario, Canada where I own and operate a fishing/tourist resort. Currently it's almost too hot to breathe so I desperately wish I was lying in a shady hammock reading as opposed to trying to finish my 2011 year end (shhh, don't tell anyone I'm so late). I do most of my reading in the off-season but even now I squeeze in a few minutes morning and night. Can't live without books!

I'm not sure which I love more, books or challenges. Books probably win by a very slight margin. This is my busy season and I'm going to need a bit of time to just figure out how everything works here, but come Autumn, I'm in.

message 853: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Betz (sebetz) | 27 comments Hi all! My name is Sarah. I am 25 and live in Denver, CO but am moving to Pittsburgh, PA in 2 months!!! Currently I am working as a receptionist while I complete my masters degree in Musicology.
I am married, my one year anniversary is in a week (!) and I have two ridiculous cats who are always great amusement and also good for cuddles.
I love Goodreads and am always looking for new books and genres to enjoy. Currently I am loving the Outlander and A Song of Fire and Ice series (even though they are SO long!), any memoirs about baking/cooking, silly mysteries like Joanne Fluke's Hannah Swensen Mysteries and Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books. I also love paranormal books and fantasy books. I will pretty much give anything a try but if it hasn't captured my attention by page 100 I will probably return it to the library without thinking twice!
I am really excited for the challenges posted in this group; it will help me go outside my reading comfort zone and it looks like a lot of fun!
For the challenges, since I am sure there are probably multiple Sarah/Sara(s) in this group I will go by my first and middle name: Sarah Eva.
Good luck everyone!!!

Hi, I'm Mike, from Louisiana. I read about this group in another challenge group, read the challenges here and couldn't resist. The most interesting thing for me will be the new books and genres I would ordinarily miss or not try.

message 857: by Rebecka (new)

Rebecka Hi, I'm Rebecka. I'm from the southern Oregon coast, USA. I've only just become interested in reading challenges and I'm super excited to be giving this a try.

message 858: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 40 comments Hello Cynthia,

My name is Jennifer. I'm 32 and I work full time in a medical center and I am also a full time student double majoring in criminal justice and social work. I live with my boyfriend and we have his two daughters part time. Life is hectic but I still make time to read and blog. In my free time I also like to dance, explore, go to museums, and play guitar hero. This challenge sounds awesome and I can't wait to get started.

message 859: by Sydney (new)

Sydney | 1 comments Hey, I'm Sydney. I'm from the U.K. I've only just joined and I would love to see what other people like to read, you know try and inspire me!:) I don't like romance books.

^^this was me last year. Since I wrote this I have returned to work part-time for my previous employer and lost all my free-time somehow. I am really looking to get back into reading now that everything is finally settling into a rhythm.

message 861: by Sam (new)

Sam Thoms (samthoms) Hi, I'm Sam. I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada and am a full time university studying Biology. I try to make time to read as much as possible during school but the bulk of my reading is done over the summer. I just recently discovered Goodreads Groups and reading challenges. I'm not a very fast reader and I hope challenges and reading more will help that out!

message 862: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 46 comments Hello all,
I'm JoLene from San Carlos, CA (Bay Area). I love to do challenges so I was very exciting to find this group. Looking forward to doing the next one (or possibly Winter since I'm getting ready to "retire" from my current company, but need to look for a new job).

My favorite genres are fantasy, historical fiction and mysteries ---- combos of any of these are my favs. In addition to reading, I love to do fiber crafts (mostly knitting and needlepoint) and cycling.

message 863: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments Welcome to the SRC Sam and JoLene. I know you will enjoy fitting the books you like in to the interesting tasks. Those darn school and work committments DO get in the way of what you want to do don't they?

message 864: by Ally (new)

Ally (ally1604) | 58 comments Hi,
I'm Ally from London, UK. I'm 28 and work as a quality consultant. I love challenges and this one looks tough but fun so I'm excited to see how I can do! I don't think I'll get very far with the summer one as I have only just joined and wasn't prepared for it, but I'll give it a go and will be ready for Autumn :)

message 865: by Vi (new)

Vi | 184 comments HI all! I'm Vi from India. I heard about this group from my friends and I'm looking forward to taking part in the challenge.

message 866: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments Welcome to the SRC Ally and Vi. You are going to love this! Your timing is perfect as some of the fall tasks get posted this Saturday so you can have time to figure out what books will fit the tasks.

Did London survive the Olympics Ally?

message 867: by Louise (new)

Louise Hi all! I`m Louise from Newport, South Wales. I'm 34 and work full time as well as helping my partner with his decorating business. I enjoy reading a wide variety of books and am always looking for something new to read. I saw this group and I thought I'd give it a go. I don't think I'll manage anything of the Summer list but have already started my booklist for the Fall challenge.

message 868: by Liz (new)

Liz (wv2fl) | 3 comments Hi, I'm Liz and I just moved to Tampa, FL. I love lists and challenges like this and am currently working my way through the '1000 books to read before you die' list. As you can imagine it is quite daunting trying to decide what to read when you have 1000 options, so I am using these challenges to help me figure out what to read next!

message 869: by Rudy (new)

Rudy Hurley | 111 comments Hi,I'm Rudy from baltimore, MD. I am a teacher and LOVE reading. I am excited to join the challenge.

I'm Diana from Texas. I left the group for awhile. I'm glad to be back. I noticed my name is still on the Readerboard (DIANA S) Hooray! :D
Happy Reading Everyone!

message 871: by JenniferJ (new)

JenniferJ | 52 comments I'm JenniferJ from South Carolina. I work from home and usually can get a good bit of reading done. I also enjoy photography, cooking, and watching horror movies.

message 872: by Adele (new)

Adele Symonds (adelesymonds) | 8 comments Hi all, anne(booklady) invited me a while ago but summer is not a good time for reading for me with 3 boys at home all day. I am a disabled, single mum with one of my 3 boys having a disability of his own. I am at home most of the time because I can only get out and about by taxi so I spend a lot of time chatting on the computer or reading.
I review books on my own blog and I am just beginning to get a name for this having been offered a position on another site as a regular paid reviewer.

I would like to join in with the sep-nov challenge as my eldest will be at school all day, my middle son will be at nursery every morning and I will only have my 1 year old at home.

Looking forward to getting to know some more people and reading some more books.

message 873: by Angie (EvlMom) (new)

Angie (EvlMom) (evlmom) | 2 comments Hi! I'm Angie from Ohio. I'm a substitute teacher and mom to two kids in high school and a Samoyed named Kodi. I enjoy reading contemporary fiction, mystery/PI/crime fiction (love the Crais, Paretsky, Cornwell, Evanovich, Kellerman and Kellerman series!) and have enjoyed reading some excellent classic and contemporary young adult fiction with my kids!

My favorite book list would include The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, and The Story of Edgar Sawtelle: a novel by David Wroblewski.

I also enjoy skiing and sailing.

message 874: by Heather B (new)

Heather B (heatherbenson) | 19 comments Hi everyone,

I'm Heather and I'm from Canada. I'm currently studying forensic science at university. School can be very stressful so I love to use reading as a way to relax. It helps me wind down at the end of the day, and is a great escape from the stresses of every day.

I don't have a favourite book, author or genre really. I will read just about anything as long as it keeps me interested. I find fiction to be the best for forgetting about everything else when you read though.

Out side of school and reading I like to spend time outdoors and I love sports.

message 875: by Su (new)

Su Philips | 4 comments Hi! My name is Su. Today is my 50th birthday. I work full time as an engineer in Philadelphia. I volunteer at a thrift shop that benefits a women's shelter, twice a month. I am married with three children, two college age girls and an eight year old son. I love reading. I was introduced to GoodReads by a coworker. This is my first book challenge.

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments Happy Birthday, Su. And happy Challenge.

message 877: by Connie N. (new)

Connie N. Hi, I'm Connie and was introduced to this group by a new GR friend. I have 4 grown children and a 6-year-old grandson. While the rest of my family watches TV (yuck!), I spend all my free time reading. (But I hate when work interferes with my reading time.) I live in suburban Massachusetts, about 30 miles west of Boston. I figured now was a good time to join this group, just in time to begin the Fall Challenge. So what do I have to do to get started?

Welcome, Connie N. I'm also a Connie from your neighboring state of CT with a 5-year-old grandson. You need to sign up with a Readerboard name too. Have fun picking out some books for the challenge!

message 882: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Hi Everyone!!! I have been lurking around this group for a couple of months and finally got brave and joined. I love reading challenges and participate in quite a few but I must admit I am intimidated by this one but really like some of the tasks. Although I have read the rules, more than once, I am still not sure that I understand enough to participate LOL. I may continue lurking as I am afraid of posting what I have read and whether or not it is acceptable. Good luck to everyone and have fun ☺

message 883: by Bea (new)

Bea Robin, come on and join in. Thr problems thread is where you learn about your mistakes or others. Most of us end up on it at least once - thus we now have a reward that we are eligible for if we stay off it.

The best way to do that is to make sure you meet all the requirements of the task before posting your book. If you are unsure of whether the book is acceptable for the task, you can ask in the particular task thread. That is what those threads are for.

Come on...please. The more the merrier they say!

When I arrived in this challenge, I had some questions I could not find the answers to in the help thread. So I asked one of the moderators by private message and she answered all of my questions very nicely.

I think you can ask them without hesitation if you have trouble understanding everything. They are nice and patient. :)

Hi Bea!! Nice to meet ya. I really really like some of the tasks for this challenge but the posting of my books really scares me LOLOLOL. I have a private group of my own where I keep track of all my challenges and the books I have read each month. I set up a thread in that group and have actually started doing this challenge on my own in my private group. Just scared to officially post here. LOL Maybe I will eventually ☺ Thank you for the nice warm welcome and cheering me on!!!

Hey, Robin...I have an idea. Pick a simple task, post it late at night, and go to bed. I bet when you get up, you will find no comments in the help thread at all because You Did It right!

I have already completed two or three of the simple tasks. Maybe I will get brave tonight and post them and see what happens....*sighs*

message 889: by Bea (new)

Bea I will keep my fingers crossed that all goes well with your first post, Robin. I am sure you will find it easier once you have taken the plunge. :)

message 890: by Dee (new)

Dee (hatcherdee) Hi. My name is Dee and I found this group while I was cruising around the site looking for fun. I bet I'm the oldest person in this group, 'though I haven't read all the introductions – life is too short. You sound like a great bunch of readers and I look forward to participating. I live in Carmel Valley, California on a ranch that I share with my husband and a lot of critters. I have three grown offspring who have all gone their separate ways and my husband and I are enjoying our retirement years doing just what we want to do – ranching and reading and in my case, quilting.
I hope I don't wind up on the "Wall o' Shame", whatever that is.

The Wall of Shame is what we have labelled the "the posting problems" thread. Staying off it will earn a chance at a reward.

I live in the UK and I've just started re- living my love of books so I'm learning about my tastes. I have a book blog called a book paradise where I talk about books I've read anything else that I like really. Hope you like me x

message 899: by Rianne (new)

Rianne (riannem) Hi!

My name is Rianne (that sounds just like "Ryan") and, as you've likely figured out by now, I'm new to the group. My dear friend Kari has gotten me hooked on Goodreads.com and this is a group she is a member of; therefore, in my exploring for some fun, casual challenges I can do, I came to you fine people!

I am a graduate student but, no, I don't study literature. I am studying to become a music therapist. My ultimate goal is to help people with neurologic conditions like strokes, brain injuries, or conditions such as MS and Parkinson's disease. This takes up a huge part of my life, but when I'm not practicing or doing clinical work you will likely find me with a book in my hands.

I also have a pet hedgehog. Her name is Delilah, and she is a delightfully cute but spoiled little brat.

Other than that, I'm not sure what there is to share! Thanks for the creative challenges,

Rianne

message 900: by Kari (new)
