INTRODUCTIONS

I have become more of a reader in the past couple of years. Working third shift for the past year, I've really been moving right along through some of my new favorites; for instance, Nicholas Sparks books, Linda Lael Miller sets, and yes, the Twilight series. I try to stay open to any type of book since never know what your going to come across.
I wanted to join a group to challenge myself to keep on going and to get my daughter more interested in reading (lead by example is always best). Plus, having conversations with some local friends would be great especially since I'm not able to get out too much with the whole third shift thing. LOL
So, to get things off on the right foot....It's very nice to meet all of you! I look forward to some epic discussions.

i am 38 years old, going to be 39 here in a week and a half. i work at a small local restaurant, cooking.
i enjoying all types of books but i guess Fantasy is my favorite. i am also an aspiring writer who is working one several short stories and at least one novel. i am working on another that is a novella but i think its gonna be turned into a novel.
At last count i have over 900 books. cant beat a deal when they sell you books very very cheap.... on the last 2 days of the book sale here they tell you "stuff as many books as you can into a plastic bag" all that for a buck!! AND, there's NO limit, you can walk out of there with as many bags as you want. NO LIMIT! lol. where else can you beat that. so i get razzed by my best friend all the time with the minimum 100 new books i get there twice a year.
anyway, im glad i found this site and this group as i am just getting in to reading challenges. i guess i will start on the 1st since the winter challenge is almost up. hope to get to meet a lot of you soon here on the site.

I'm Suzanne, 48 years old and single. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio and am currently unemployed. I start a new job soon - March 5th in qualitative medical research at the University of Cincinnati.
I've always loved to read. As my older brother says, "you DEVOUR books!" I also love challenges and have probably more than met my match in this group!
I look forward to participating soon!

the one here rune for 3 weekends, the books start out, i think $5.00 for hard covers maybe $2.00 for paperbacks and go down .25 each day until the last 2 days when they are the cheapest., that's my Birthday and xmas presents to myself. lol

I'm DaLynn, just turned 32 years old this week. Christian, wife of 10 years, and stay at home, homeschooling mother to 5 kiddos. The big boys are almost 13, 8, and 7; then the baby twins - another boy and my only girl - are a year and a half old. Yes, I stay busy! ;)
I enjoy reading fiction - classics are on my goal list, fantasy and mysteries are a couple of favorite genres, I do some sci-fi but am picky about it. I don't do romances well, but am tolerating some in the classics, and I don't do horror or dark at all. I also enjoy some non-fiction; most of my nf tbr are Christian teaching books, but I branch out now and then. With the kids I do lots of childrens reading, award books, etc, but I don't usually include those as my own goals or challenges.
Besides reading I am a musician, a scrapbooker, a beginning sewer, learning to crochet, and enjoy spending time with my family doing things like playing board games, watching DVD movies, going camping and scouting activities.
Can't wait to get to know you and do some great reading this year, season by season. Thanks for having me!

My goodness, Dalynn! When do you find time to read?

LOL, I was going to say the same thing! You must be a cousin of the Energizer Bunny!

LOL, I was going to say the same thing! You must be a cousin of the Energizer Bunny!

Seriously though, thanks for the welcomes! I don't get tons of reading time in, but I make it a priority and it's what I'm often doing if I have any down-time at all.
Last year I read around 3 dozen books (didn't count, wasn't trying), so I thought I may could do 52 (book a week!) this year; but, it turns out that was probably a little optimistic on my part. Last year I read often when babies were nursing. This year both babies are toddlers, so even if they do nurse at the same time, there's no holding a book still enough to read during that. LOL But I'll plug along and see how I do!
More accurately, I'm not doing much of the music, scrapbook, sewing, crocheting bits. ;) Though I do finally have my crocheting stuff together and I think it will work well to learn and do on long car trips, which we have plenty of. (We are way out in the country. Takes us a half hour to get to church, or the grocery store. Thankfully there are local libraries though!!)
Even here today, at the computer, I'm always back and forth doing something! I need to do dishes, actually, before hubby gets home - and while toddlers are in their chairs having a snack!
I don't know how I do it, honestly. I'm sure the not having tv thing helps! (Yes, I really meant we don't have tv. We have a box and it plays movies and video games, but we don't have a tv service and would need an outside antenna to get local channels even.)

Welcome Dalynn. Your intro makes me want to friend you right off the bat. Your life sounds so fullfilling and sensible. You don't complain about the schools; you just do the schooling yourself. I also breastfed my girls, but most people can't seem to get through the first week. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I can't wait to see your reviews and feel free to check me out if you want to.

I am a SAHM when my 2 year old lets me I am reading constantly. I usually prefer romance or paranormal/fantasy. I am a big fan of Happy Ever Afters. I hate cliffhangers.
I just found this group and it looks like the mega challenge of all challenges. I can't wait to give it a try.

I am looking forward to joining in with these challenges! Nice to meet you all, and happy reading!

My name is Kara (pronounced "KAR-uh"). I grew up in Hawaii, moved to California, and currently live in Michigan. I don't know what to call home.
I've sold my soul to corporate America (but kind of like it), and I balance that by spending my spare time writing, traveling, and reading. I'm a terribly competitive person. Last year, my boyfriend read more books than I do, so I'm out to get him this year. So far, I've read 31 to his 22.
I only recently learned about challenges, and I may be addicted.

I'm Valari, 23 years old and I live in Bulgaria. I wasn't really looking for a group to join but I somehow clicked a link which took me to the group home page and I was hooked from minute 1.
I'm working as a call center agent at the moment and while I don't have lots of free time at the end of the day to read, reading has become a major detoxifier for me from negative emotions and stress. I don't read as much as I would like to but I'm trying to fit more reading time into my schedule.
I like challenges and I'm looking forward to the spring challenge! I know it has already started but there are still months of reading ahead ;)

I am Kristen, I just stumbled onto this challenge concept and love it! great way to combine my love of reading with my competitiveness :)... I am quite curious to find out how this all works. My main question for the moment is: By reading one book, multiple challenges can be completed... So can one book be used to complete multiple challenges and gather the points from those different challenges or must every challenge be completed by a different book unless otherwise noted?
*** haha found my answer on the next page I happened upon.

I am happily married and my days are spent entertaining my 1 yr old daughter, I also have to step-sons who keep me on my toes. When not reading or being mum, I can usually be found getting my nerd
on playing World of Warcraft.
I have laid out the Spring Fire Challenge and already added my books i've read already this month. I look forward to continue this and many more challenges.

My name is Ashley Hall. I work ALL of the time. Wish I could make enough money with one job so that I could read and attend concerts more, but oh well. At least I have them. I will be turning the big 30 this year.
I have become highly addicted to this site! I love reading! I read a little of everything. I have become infatuated with Historical Novels and Non-historicals. I also like paranormal books. And I will say that Jane Austen has been one of my favorites for a long, long time. Probably back when I read her work in high school.
Looking forward to joining this challenge. Although, I know I won't be able to keep up with everyone since I work 3 jobs... :(

My name is Nicola. I love reading, and I love to be challenged. This challenge looks complicated - but that is a good thing! I am a teacher who is currently on leave, and looking for things to keep me busy.
I am excited about joining this group, and hope I can figure it out. I know I joined late, but hope I can backdate for the Spring Challenge 2012.
May be back with a few questions...

Chucklesthescot had a link to this group in his group & I decided to check it out & I am hooked. I am a little late to start the Spring Challenge but I will follow along & then I will be ready for the Summer Challenge.

Hey, Sallie! Welcome to the SRC! :D Recognized you from the SOS group. Great round of bingo, but I am glad it's finally over!
Did you see Kristi's post about adding your name to the Reader Board?
Good luck with the challenge! It's amazing how many books I read during bingo just happen to fit into categories without prior planning. :)

I'm Peebee, and I'm addicted to reading (who here isn't, right?) A couple of years ago, I joined the Bookswim service (like Netflix for books) so that I could get brand new fiction without having to pay hardcover prices. At the time, my local library's acquisition budget had been slashed, so I got tired of waiting for the paperback (plus my apartment really doesn't have room for many more bookshelves). That's when I started reading a lot...and haven't stopped. So now I like having the reading addiction count for something that I can measure.
In my day job, I'm a lawyer and head of a nonprofit organization. I travel a lot, which is when I get a lot of reading done...the rest happens late at night because I tend not to sleep very much.
My favorite genres are chick lit, contemporary fiction (what I call the book club books, even though I'm not in any offline book clubs) and humorous memoirs. I could do without science fiction, fantasy, or mysteries, although who knew I'd be reading so much YA-dystopia these days? Ten favorite authors: John Irving; Jonathan Tropper; Jodi Picoult; Jen Lancaster; Jennifer Weiner; Kristin Hannah; Nick Hornby; Tom Perrotta; Pat Conroy; and Michael Chabon.
I look forward to future challenges...my goal was to finish this time, and I finished early, so hopefully I can keep up in the future.

I love reading and am lookign forward to participating in this challenge!

I'm Anne, 25, from Dresden, Germany. Because I don't like Anne, and it is rather common, I have gotten used to being called Silver online :).
I love reading challenges. I heard about this group on CCC, and I thought I might join :).
I've just started my own blog; I might post a link when there are at least ten posts online :).
Just a quick question - is it alright if I post the entire list of tasks that I did at the end of the challenge? So that I can move things around? Because I tend to do that a lot :). (And can I include German titles if I translate them?)

To answer your questions: The moderators prefer that you post tasks as you finish them rather than all at one time near the end of the challenge. If you look at the completed task threads, people move books around if the need arises, so there is no need to wait until the end of the challenge to decide how you’re going to arrange your books, just make it clear in your post that you'd like to move book A from task #X to task #Y. It makes the end of the challenge much easier.
As far as German titles go, the challenge rules say:
3. Books in languages other than English may be used. Please provide information on the book and/or title to your English speaking moderators so they can understand how the books fit the tasks. Any task requiring a specific title (number of letters, number of words, specific word in title, etc.) should apply to the title that you use.
You can find all of the rules here: Rules of the Challenge
Happy reading! I hope you find some great books!
