INTRODUCTIONS
Well I will keep it brief, just to say hello. My name is Rachel, I'm from upstate NY, my friend recommended the site to me, and I found this group and thought it would be great to joing a book club with more aspirations that a new book every month and a half (though I do love the social time with my girls). So now I do both. I hope to hear mayn wonderful things and welcome suggestions for books to read. I used to be an avid reader, then life got in the way, now I'm coming back to it, trying to stop the good'ole brain from becoming a mushy mess!
Hi!My name is Teresa, aka ilovebakedgoods. I can't remember if I've already posted an intro here or not because it's been awhile since I've visited the group. I'm really hoping to participate in the Fall 2010 Challenge. Working on books to go with the tasks right now.
Anyway, I live in TX and I am a mom (my son is 9). In addition to reading, I enjoy baking, watching movies and TV, listening to music, surfing the internet, hanging out with friends, and pursuing an education.
Favorite genres to read include: mysteries/thrillers, memoirs, general fiction, and cookbooks.
Nice to be here!
Teresa :)

Hi, Teresa! Welcome back.
There are a number of Teresas participating in the Challenge, so before you start posting completed tasks you'll need to decide what you want your Readerboard name to be.
Read posts 1 & 2 in the Readerboard Names thread, choose your Readerboard name, and post your choice there.

By the by, am I meant to be the Melissa of the reader list while Melissa W is meant to be Melissa W?
I do find many or most of the posts in this challenge quite confusing--are other newbies as lost as I?
Thanks, Kristi.I did read those threads regarding names and I'd like to go by ilovebakedgoods, it just seems simplest. I'll post it at the top of my entry for completed tasks when the time comes. (I just posted in the Readerboard Names thread, too).
Thanks,
Teresa

Great, Teresa. Thanks. I just posted a reminder for you to post ilovebakedgoods at the top of your completed task posts before I read this ;o).

No, I believe that's another Melissa as you haven't posted any completed tasks yet (have you? I didn't see any). Melissa is a pretty popular name so before you start posting completed tasks you'll need to decide what you want your Readerboard name to be (it cannot be a duplicate of a name that's already on the list).
Read posts 1 & 2 in the Readerboard Names thread, choose your unique Readerboard name, post your choice on that thread, and I'll get you added.
Hi! Stesse here! I'm a newbie to the challenge & wanted to introduce myself. I'm a 34-yr old bookworm living in Southern California with my husband of 2 months. They say opposites attract - it's true - he dislikes reading when he can learn from a documentary or Wikipedia. I'd curl up with a good book (really, just about any subject) anytime. He jokes that he'd like to find a way to make money off how much I read... I read pretty fast so I'm a regular at our library. I'm an engineer by training and now I tell agencies how best to build / expand transit systems. So essentially I play with trains!
When I'm not reading, I'm learning how to cook (now that there's 2 of us in the house, it makes sense to cook!), running, and I just started swimming again.
I'm excited to join the challenge and discover some new reads. -Stesse
Welcome Stesse! If your husband finds a way for you to make money off of reading, please let me know. We're always looking for extra cash around here.

Hi, Sabrina! Feel free to add me as a friend. I read everything from romances to mysteries to non-fiction too, so it would be hard for me to pick a favorite genre.
KSMary wrote: "Hi, Sabrina! Feel free to add me as a friend. I think it's fascinating to see what everyone puts on their TBR lists, etc. I would never have picked up some books if it wouldn't have been for this site.
Hi! I'm Jessica. I love YA books, I think I always will, I just started to read some romance novels too, but I keep going back to YA. I like to write, but nothing is published (I'm no good, and I tend to start writing a few things at once and never finishing any of them). But I always have a book with me, wherever I go (even if I know I won't have time to read it, it's weird). I think this group is going to be really cool for more ideas on what to read next (even though my bookshelf at home has probably close to 70 books that I still need to read on it now). I have an addiction to books, and I keep buying more even though I haven't finished the ones I have already, but I'm starting to read a lot more now that I was in the past couple years.I am a full time sophomore in college, and I work two part time jobs. I just got my drivers license last summer (I put off learning to drive for a few years, but I don't regret it, I think less 16 year olds should be on the road).
Anyway, I am currently reading 4 books, I start too many at once, but when reading books, I do actually finish them. I have a few favorite authors that I will read anything they write, but I will take recommendations for new books too, I like reading new types of books since every author is different.

Hi, all, I'm Lahni. I'm a stay-at-home mom of 5 ages 13, 12, 9, 5, 3. I enjoy reading, gardening, cooking (especially baking) and playing the cello. I like to read all sorts of books and have loved all the great recommendations I receive through Goodreads!

Welcome to the challenge, CAREY!
Hi all, I'm Michelle. I've been scouting around for a good reading challenge to add some more fun to my reading. I'm hoping this won't be too complicated!
Hello, I'm Rachel!I'm 26 years old, a biologist, and a recent transplant from Georgia to Boston as well as an avid gamer and violinist.
I love the idea of a friendly reading competition, so I'm looking forward to learning the ins and outs of the group's system and jumping into the Winter challenge!

It's nice to have fellow biologists around here. And you are also trying to read the 1001!
Sue T wrote: "Welcome Rachel from another biologist!"It's great to see other scientists in the group! Only a few of my coworkers (all scientists and engineers) read often for pleasure or enjoy discussing favorite books.

I'm a biochemist/cytogeneticist turned science education writer, so feel free to speak geek to me, too ;o).
Hello, I followed a reading friend in here and it's a bit like Alice going down the rabbit hole. I've been here for hours! My name is Miriam, I'm Canadian, 47, mother of two boys, and work at a local university. I try, sometimes successully, sometimes not, to fit in reading where ever I can. I'm planning to participate in the Winter seasonal challenge.
Hello, I'm Anna. I live in England with my husband, son and crazy dog. I love to read and plan to take part in the Winter Challenge if I can get to grip with the rules. I hope to read Doctor Zhivago too as it's something I've been wanting to read for ages. Anyway, it all looks great fun.
Hi! I'm Crystal and a bit new to this site. I love frogs which is the reason for the Froggette name. I enjoy reading and have a degree in English. I thought the challenges sound like fun, a good way to also choose which book to read next and thin out my book shelves of books I already own.
Hi, y'all. My name is Bea. I am 62 and live in CT with my husband and two dogs (Tucker- boxer, Chewy - Llasa Apso mix = both rescues). I am a RN case manager and work with the elderly overseeing homecare. I like reading, always have. Bookstores (new and used) and libraries are dangerous places for me as I always find many more books that I have time to read.
I thought I would try this group to see if I can stimulate my reading. I don't know much about challenges and have not yet seen the tasks for Winter. Guess I will wait until tasks are listed.
I am trying to catch up on Goodreads newsletters and have been reading books that peaked my interest from earlier 2010 editions. However, I am finding that some are new and not in my local library and, for interlibrary loan, I will need to wait a year! Sucks but just cannot afford to buy books now.
Hey guys! I stumbled across this and was excited about trying a seasonal challenge. My name is Meagan, I'm a full time college student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Hi everyone, I'm Kat and I live in Alabama. I have two grown boys (21 and 19), I'm an RN working in critical care. I have been on GR for several years, in TNBBC for a few years, but finally decided to join this challenge.
I have an ever-growing TBR list, as well as almost 300 books on my bookshelves at home (most of them read, honestly), and hopefully this challenge will help me read the rest...and then some. I can't wait to go through the tasks and start plugging in my books..... I think that is half the fun!
I'm Amanda, aka Chinook. I am Canadian, but for the last ten years I've been living overseas - first in Edinburgh, now in Seoul. I teach kindergarten ESL. Aside from reading, I also hash (with the Hash House Harriers, not the drug!) and I started running races this year - I did my first 10K back in September.
Hello,I'm Brenda and I think I would like to do this challenge. I know I am getting a late start on winter, but hopefully that is okay. I am still trying to wrap my brain around the rules and posting requirements, so hopefully you can be patient with me.
Hi I'm Hettie from England. I'm 31 and work as a pharmacy technician.
I love to read all sorts of different books but my main focus is fantasy and science fiction. I have not read many books recently as I have been reading lots of stories on the internet.
I am hoping that this group will help me get through the 100+ books I have sitting around the house that I have not got round to reading yet.
I know that I am a bit late to the winter challenge but I am hoping that I still have enough time to get a few points.
Hi,I'm Michael from the Philadelphia, PA area. I work as a carpenter.
I enjoy reading, but sometimes have trouble picking books that are outside of my comfort zone (sci/fi, fantasy, horror). I think the challange will help push me towards reading books that I otherwise would have passed on.
Since receiving it as a Christmas present in 2009, my Sony pocket reader has been my sole method of reading. I'm hoping to pack it full of books for the upcoming challenge!
Thanks,
Mike
Hi all,I'm Mercy and I'm a 21yo international college student in a small university in ohio. I'm from Cameroon, and I have always loved reading, which is something that helped me a lot my first year in the US. And i love Reading Challenges, so I'm looking forward to that too!
Hi everyone! I'm Moriah, a recent college grad and job hunter. I studied German, so maybe this will get me keep reading (and not just practicing with minimal speaking opportunities). I tend to read a lot of nonfiction, but I know I can and should shake that up a little!

I am hoping to use this challenge as a sort of foundation for improving my familiarity with Norwegian literature and thus plan to include as many Norwegian books as I can manage. There won't be any Norwegian classics, unfortunately, as the majority of classic Norwegian literature was written in dialect using Danish or dialect spellings. Pity though, one could acquire a good number of points for reading "Kristin Lavransdatter" by Sigrid Undset!
In any case I just started trying to read Sverre Knudsens "Berettinger" after giving up on Lars Saaybe Christiansen's "Bly." I would recommend Saaybe Christiansen's "The Half Brother" and, have honestly heard more positive comments about his book "Beatles" than just about any other modern piece of Norwegian literature.
In any case, if I can get my computer sorted, I can finally get started on the challenge--I am way behind!!
