Rebekah (bekalynn) | 1 comments Another newbie here. I'm Rebekah, a native Texan, (you can tell because we're so arrogant about it.)I now live outside Houston. From 2000-2008, we were living in New Delhi, India.I love the International and Interstate membership. My father is from beautiful East Tennessee, so I do consider myself a half-breed (smile). We keep a cabin there as well. I've lived in 7 states, have visited all except Hawaii and Alaska, have traveled to many countries. I love learning about different cultures and believe me, India was the most different culture I had ever been exposed to!
My birthday is on Wed, but I'm not sure my age because it changes every day according to how I feel. Today is 42.I have 8 yr old boy/girl twins that I homeschool, A 20 year old daughter who has a baby boy due this week and a husband to support all my interests. I was a Pedi nurse until we moved to India but I still did volunteer nursing with charities.I have to keep a few books going at once. The main book I'm reading that goes to dr offices and bed. A book of short stories for the bathroom, an audiobook to read while I am driving and in the dark, A kindle to take traveling on airlines, a book I read to my kids each night and the cereal box in the morning. 5 yrs ago I set a challenge to read all the Pulitzers for Fiction and have only one left so I am looking forward to trying some of these new challenges!

Jessica-L- | 25 comments Hi =)
I've just joined Goodreads, and found this interesting group. I've never participated in a challenge, but it looks really fun and I'll give it a try, see where it takes me.
Anyway, I'm from Croatia, I'm 25, vegetarian, love my bycicle (just came back from a trip by bike along the croatian cost) and i love books.
I like genres like mystery, horror, travel, fiction, fantasy, I love cooking so cookbooks are always welcome... and so on.. :)

message 610: by Amanda B. (new)

Amanda B. | 112 comments Hello group, my name is Amanda and I just joined this group today. I’m not sure how I came across this group and it sounded fun! I have never really been a big reader until recently and I owe it to Stephanie Meyer. It used to take me years to read one book picking it up and putting it down again, but now I’m on a rampage LOL, can’t get enough! In the past year and a half I have read the Twilight series 3 times, then I decided I would read the Harry Potter Series (I struggled to complete that one). Then I read a couple single books as I was tired of series and now I’m on a treck to read classics, just started 3 weeks ago. So far I have read The Great Gatsby, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Catcher in the Rye (hated it!!! But finished it.), Pride and Prejudice and am about to finish this week The Grapes of Wrath. I have never done a challenge before and am looking forward to it. I’m hoping the books on my list will meet some of the challenges. I briefly looked at the challenge suggestions and if that Russian one is picked I have a book for that on my list “Crime and Punishment”

Now a little about me. I am 33 years old, mother of two daughters 11 and 10. I have remarried and my husband has 3 boys 22, 19, and 16, we have been together six years. I am originally from Detroit, Michigan, moved to Pensacola Florida after my first year of college, I lived in Orange, Texas for a couple of years (ex was from there) and then moved back to Pensacola in 2004. Last November we moved to Nashville, Tennessee and I’m loving it! I work full time as a paralegal and kids at home and read during my lunch hour and before bed or as much as I can on the weekends, however, my hubby gets jealous sometimes and makes a comment about having my nose in a book etc.

Well I can’t wait to get to know all of you and start the Fall Challenge!!!!

message 611: by Melissa Wiebe (new)

Melissa Wiebe (melissawiebe80) Hi everybody. My name is Melissa W. and I am 30 years old. I live in an apartment about an hours drive from Vancouver, BC.

I have been an avid reader since I was a small child. I try to read a variety of books, but I always seem to read the same sort of books. I tend to get my books from the library, occasionally purchasing the ones that I really want and can't seem to get from the library quickly, even though most of them are sitting on my shelf.

Rebekah (bekalynn) | 1 comments Amanda wrote: "Hello group, my name is Amanda and I just joined this group today. I’m not sure how I came across this group and it sounded fun! I have never really been a big reader until recently and I owe it ..."

That's amazing that you are a "late reader"! Good for you! My daughter has dyslexia and couldn't read most of school years and hated it. Then something just happend when she started high school and now I don't know which of us reads more!

As for dh, Mine is not a big reader either and can't understand why I need more bookcases. If you are cooking, You can put your book in a cookbook rack and act like you are studying the recipe. You can also listen to audiobooks so you can "read" while doing housework or driving! Last resort, I still take a flashlight and hide under the covers to read so it won't wake him up! ; )
Good luck!

message 613: by Nicoletta (new)

Nicoletta Daum (daum9812) Hello All! My name is Nicoletta and I am a 24yr old from Long Island, NY! I am an avid reader and my favorite authors are James Patterson, Dean Koontz and Nicholas Sparks and I also enjoy reading true crime novels. I am currently looking to expand outside of my normal books preferences and I believe joining this challenge will help get me interested in new authors and topics.

I am very much looking forward to be apart of the Fall challenge and cant wait to get started!

message 615: by Neen (new)

Neen Hi all, my name is Neen, I am 22 from Manchester UK. The group looks really interesting and entertaining, I really want to find new books, authors and genres to get into as right now I seem to be limited in what I keep deciding to read which generally includes YA authors.

I'm looking forward to joining the Fall challenge although I feel slightly confused about the posting and pointing system although reading all the rules, I hope i can get my head around it!

message 616: by scherzo♫ (last edited Aug 26, 2010 11:31AM) (new)

scherzo♫ (pjreads) Welcome to the challenge Neen!

For the Seasonal Reading Challenge, 5 point tasks earn 5 points, 10 point tasks earn 10 points, etc.

(NOTE: There is a separate Reading with Style challenge that has a more complicated scoring system.)

I think you'll understand how to post if you look at the most recent posts for the Summer challenge in http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/3...

Meera | 127 comments Hi, I’m looking forward to participating in the fall challenge. I’m a working mother/wife of two boys (5 and 7) and live in MA. I love to read but can’t always figure out what I want to read next. I am also trying to read from the 1001 books to read list but have been sidetracked from that list quite a bit this year. Now, I'm going to go look at the task list and have fun planning my list :-)

message 620: by chucklesthescot (new)

chucklesthescot Hi there, joining in time for the fall challenge. It sounds like a good excuse to get a variety of dusty tbrs read at last!

I'm 37, from Scotland and totally book obsessed-too many books and not enough time these days! My favourites are the urban fantasy books,Tudor related historical f and nf, asian memoirs but I've surprised myself with some of the books I've discovered since joining all these book groups.

I'm looking forward to trying out some challenges here.

scherzo♫ (pjreads) Welcome to the challenge, Brooke!

message 625: by gosneka (new)

gosneka | 3 comments Hi my name is Kate, and I'm pretty new to this site, but so far I'm really liking it. I came across it completely by accident, and I'm glad I did. I'm a 22 year old single mother. I live in Quincy, IL, and I commute to WIU in Macomb, IL, where I am a full-time student working on my Bachelor's in Chemistry. I work part-time for Spring Street Bar, a neat little place here in Quincy that my Dad has owned my whole life.

Really up until the last year I hadn't been reading much at all. I always loved to read when I was a kid. At least up until high school when I found what I thought to be better things to occupy my free-time. Then, last summer I was kind of in a dark place in my life, somewhat depressed. And in response to all the hype about the first movie, I borrowed my kid sister's copy of Twilight, and I simply devoured all four of them probably within a week. They gave me a way to escape for a short time, and it helped relieve some stress. From then on I haven't stopped. As a kid fantasy-type books were always my first choice, which probably still holds true for me. However, I have been picking up other genres.

What I like about this "challenge," is that it gives you great ways to find good books to read that you might otherwise have never found or thought to read. I find myself yearning for a good book when I'm not in the middle of some series, and unsure how to go about finding one. I mean going to the bookstore or library is one thing, but where to start? How do I know whether I'm going to love it or not? I don't think that finding a good book will be an issue any more.

Rochelle (rochelle_hawkins) Hi,

My name is Rochelle. I am 30 years old and have worked for the last six years as a middle school librarian in Georgia. I've long been a lover of contemporary and historical fiction. Recently, I've been reading a lot of middle grade and YA lit to better serve my young library patrons. I am always looking for new books to devour and I'm excited about participating in the upcoming challenges.

Francesca (frannyjb) | 5 comments Hello All!

My name is Francesca and I'm joining the group for the first time. I'm a bookworm by nature and a recent law school grad that suddenly has a lot of time on her hands. So what better way to pass the time than curled up with a good book? I'm super excited to start reading books that don't have "Law" in the title again. The challenges sound like tons of fun. I already can't wait for my next trip to the bookstore!

I've been on Goodreads for a while, but I've only recently finished grad school and found time to read for pleasure again (which I'm absolutely ecstatic about!). I hope the challenges will help me tackle my ever-growing TBR list!

message 636: by Amber (new)

Amber Hi! I'm AmberM. I'm in my mid-30's and live in Illinois with my husband of 14 years and our cat. I tend to go through phases where I read 15 books a month for a couple months and then only one or two for a couple months. Most of the books I read are paranormal romance. I read romance, mystery, and manga with lesser frequency and a few non-fiction per year.

I joined this group because the variety of challenges caught my eye. In addition to coordinating some books I'm reading for other challenges with this, it's going to offer me a chance to broaden my horizons into other genres, some of which I've never read or haven't since school.

Elaine | 5 comments Hi! I'm Elaine, age 51 and living in the UK just north of Manchester. Am married with 1 teenage daughter.
I used to be a prolific reader but life and family took over and am only now able to find some time again to return to books!
I fell upon this site last night and have spent quite some time already nosying around. This group really attracted me because of the challenges and chance to read books I possibly wouldn't choose for myself.
Am really looking forward to starting the Fall challenge.

That's awesome that you found a love for books. If you are really determined to read some great classics, look at the 1001 Books to Read Before You Die list. There are tons of them. One of my absolute favorite books of all time is The Count of Monte Crisco. It's super long but it's a great read. Believe it or not, it was originally written as a children's book! Good luck in finding great books!

April Funny you mention The Count of Monte Cristo I have that on my list and fit it into a challenge I am worried about the length though approx 1500 pgs. I keep trying to see if I can rearrange to get the book off the challenge but at the same time I wanted to fit most of my to read classics into it. I'll definately check out that list! I went to a bunch of online classics lists to develop my personal list but didn't see this one. Thanks for sharing!

Joanna Jacob | 16 comments Hi everyone:
I recently relocated from San Francisco to Reno.. "working from home" and stuck inside the house a lot of the time... I am 34,recently engaged, lawyer by trade. I have always loved, and continue to LOVE the smell of libraries, the smell of a library book, and the feeling of reading something so dang good that you rush through your day to get home and read some more. This has been a year of life changes for me, and I want to spend some time doing what I love - top on my list is reading. I needed some new suggestions, and I love this idea! I am looking forward to tackling the Fall Challenge.
