Christina Popsuj (cpopsuj) | 91 comments Hello, my name is Christina. I'm 35 and live near Boston, MA. I was really intrigued by this group when I came across it a few weeks ago, and I'm excited to participate in my first challenge! I love reading and discussing books with my friends and family. I currently work full time in Executive Compensation, but have often thought that my dream job would be Librarian. I'm looking forward to participating in this group and seeing what everyone else is reading.

Hi Emily!
You will find much support here- but we're a bunch of enablers- or even suppliers- your TBR shelf will never be the same...

Good! Even though my TBR list is huge, I'm still looking to add! One can never read too many books...

Thanks!

Sue (suetinge) | 1579 comments I'm Sue and I'm an avid reader. I guess that's probably obvious since I'm on Goodreads and joined this challenge. I'm always on the lookout for new authors and this seemed like a good way to find some, as well as challenge myself.

message 506: by Fran (new)

Fran | 730 comments Hi! I'm Fran and I love to read. Like Dee I am a member of the Romance Readers Reading Challenge group and although pretty new at it, I am fast becoming addicted to it. This group looks like fun so here I am.

I am a Nursery School teacher but have taken a leave recently and have a lot more time to read. I have 3 kids who are all in school during the day, so that frees up some time. Once 3 pm hits however, it's driving time- to sports games, practices, brownies, etc. I have recently discovered audio books so now all that driving is much more entertaining.

I mostly read Romance- historical, contemporary, paranormal, erotic. I am open to explore different genres and look forward to lots of new recommendations and I love to see what everyone else is reading!

Lindy-Lane (moonbacklit) | 567 comments I'm looking forward to participating in this challenge (I'm aiming to achieve a total of 100 points). I am a misplaced Virginian currently living in Ohio and hope to "retire" in Williamsburg, Virginia. I work in a library as a Youth Associate. I'm an avid reader (mysteries and historical fictions being my favorites), frequent napper, creative soul who has become addicted to book challenges. I'm also the proud Mom of a 4 year old adorable, diva pug named Miss Lucy.

Christine US (christineus) | 575 comments Hello! My name is Christine, and I am Virginian who currently lives in Katy TX (outside of Houston). I grew up 30 miles south of Washington DC, I attended Virginia Tech, went back home to Northern VA where I met and married a Texan who wanted to come home. So that's what we did. We moved here in fall of 2008, and while it's OK for now - I know I'm not destined to live in Texas forever.
I currently work at Texas Children's Hospital, which is both an amazing and heartbreaking place to work. I am fortunate to not have a slave-driver for a boss, so I don't have to work too many late nights or weekends:) I do, however, have an hour commute each way, so audiobooks from the library have really become the thing keeping my sanity on that drive everyday.
I love to read, always have. My favorite days in elementary school where the days when the new book order forms came (those little 4 page colorful paper brochures...does anyone remember those?) and I could get new books. My parents are both scholarly individuals (my father is a college professor and my mother just retired after 30 years of teaching) so reading was highly encouraged in my home, which only helped feed into my love of books. My parents never bothered to send me to my room as a punishment, as my books were there. It's hard to punish someone when you are leaving them alone with something they like:)
I was very excited to learn about the Challenge and am using it to clean off some of the books that have sat on my shelves for years and never got picked up. I suffer from book overshopper syndrome...I never leave a bookstore without buying something, and I always end up buying more even though I have unread books on hand.

message 512: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey (_lindsey_) | 498 comments Christine, I used to love those book order forms! My mom was always nice enough to always buy me something, usually whatever I wanted and then some extra stuff she picked out that she thought looked good too. Book overshopper syndrome describes me 100%. I love that you gave a name to it!

I was able to buy the minimum number of books to get the 'free' poster. Ha!

message 514: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey (_lindsey_) | 498 comments Hahaha, I forgot that they used to be all sorts of goodies with those things too!

message 515: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 1579 comments Welcome, Christine. I suffer from book overshopper syndrome myself. I think my sister does, too. I asked for either Dickens or Austen for my birthday and got 2 of each.

message 516: by JC (new)

JC (jmnc) | 638 comments Hi everyone! I'm Jen and I live in beautiful North Idaho, USA. I'm an elementary school teacher who is currently a stay-at-home mom of 2 boys - age 4.5yr and 10mo. I don't currently have a lot of time to read, but every second I can steal I've got my nose in a book! The first place I went when I "escaped" from home after having my boys was the library. My reading passion began with Little House on the Prairie series. My favorite genre is fantasy (Lord of the Rings -ish stuff) but I like Paranormal Romance, Classics, Bios/Autobios, Young Adult, basically anything written well. I'm the president of a women's book club here and we've been going strong for 4 years now! We're mostly young moms and meet one night a week. No kids allowed (unless you're nursing *wink*) I saw book challenges in other groups that I joined, and was directed here after wondering where I could participate in a challenge that didn't require me to stick to one genre. So here I am, about to do me first reading challenge ever! Yay me!

message 517: by Lizzie (new)

Lizzie Gaga (hemogoblin_reads) | 3 comments Hello, I'm Liz. I'm just graduating from high school this month, but am alone with my baby more than with friends, and so I have been reading a LOT more recently. I'm talking one book every two-three days or so. I don't know what my favorite type of book is. I do read a lot of dystopian novels, and I suppose I prefer modern writing. I just filled out a few challenges that I unknowingly finished already (there might be a couple more that I don't know about, haha). This is a pretty awesome group.

message 518: by Jenny L (new)

Jenny L (trierjen) | 12 comments Hi, I'm Jenny and I live in Central Oregon. I'm always looking for new authors and enjoy several different genres so I thought this looked like a great group to join.

message 519: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 1579 comments Hi Jenny, I'm fairly new here myself, but my TBR list is growing by leaps and bounds.

message 520: by Terri FL (new)

Terri FL (territhemuse) | 615 comments Hi! I'm Terri and live in Lakewood Ranch, Fl. I'm 36 and I'm a bookaholic. I've just finished cataloging all my books and have over 1500, although after picking my challenge books, that number may just grow! I do work full time, but my husband is spending the summer in Europe with his family so I'll have extra reading time.

I belong to 3 book clubs, 2 that I organize through meetup, and one with my work. I tried to fit in my book club reads with the challenge where I could. One of my book club friends is always talking about book challenges, so I sought one out and found this. I have had a great time matching books for all the challenges, so all that's left is to start reading!

message 521: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelyar) | 2 comments Hi all! I am Rachel. I am living in Dallas, TX now. I like to read, but only if the book is good and engaging. I have started many books that just "didn't do it for me," and I end up putting them down sooner or later.
On the other hand, every once in a while, I find a book that I love. So I guess I just need to try new books more often to search those EXCELLENT stories out.

I am doing the reading challenge, but I highly doubt I can finish even the entire 5 point list. I went to the library to pick up 5 of the books I had chosen, and my husband said I wouldn't even be able to read all of those books in a year. --- another challenge?

I am having a lot of trouble finding books to fulfill the first three on the 5 point list. Any good recommendations?

Thanks!

message 522: by Jane (new)

Jane (shoxford) | 11 comments Hey everyone

I'm Jane, I live in Oxford and I love reading and discovering new authors and genres. I will be doing the reading challenge-looking forward to it

Hope to get to know you all so feel free to say hello

:)

Angie (tikkledpink) | 37 comments Rachel wrote: "I am having a lot of trouble finding books to fulfill the first three on the 5 point list. Any good recommendations?"

Rachel, if you can fit The Hunger Games somewhere in your reading list, then I highly recommend Catching Fire for Challenge #1!

message 524: by Louvaine (new)

Louvaine | 98 comments I second CaliAngie's suggestion! I just finished The Hunger Games and am starting Catching Fire. I didn't plan reading either one, but the discussions drew me in. I really liked Hunger Games and the second one seems to be as engaging.

Welcome Jane. I enjoy reading new authors too. Sometimes I forget though. As I was choosing books to read this for the challenge (also my first) I started using books I already read for some tasks. There seems like so many tasks that I just wanted to fill some slots and get some easy ones in. After I read my first John Scalzi novel I remembered how much I like discovering new authors, and that is the reason behind this challenge in the first place. I have found some interesting sounding books for many tasks (some that I would never have considered before) and re-tasking some of my previous re-reads for new books/authors.

So, welcome, good luck and have fun!

message 526: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 10 comments Hi everyone, I'm Sarah. I live in Portland and just stumbled across the group and thought the challenges sounded excellent.

I'm working on getting my Masters in Publishing, so I am reading all the time to keep up with what's going on in "bookland" right now. The challenges seem like a good way to help me focus my reading and pick titles from my ever expanding "to read" list.

message 528: by Jade (new)

Jade Hi! My name is Jade. I am 31 and live rural MN. I am currently a SAHM and plan to go back to school in the fall. I am excited to find this group and hope it will get me out of my comfort zone and on to some great books I didn't know existed.

message 529: by Jen (new)

Jen (mssjenn) Hi.
my name is Jenn and I'm new to the group. I love to read urban fantasy, horror and dark fantasy, but read all kind of stuff.

I'd like to join the summer challenge but i'm not sure if I'm too late already for it.

message 530: by Donna Jo (new)

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments Jenn, you are not too late. Just jump right in. And you can count anything you've read since June 1 if you can fit it to a task.
Happy reading.

message 531: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 129 comments Hi All! My name is Kelly - I am 30 years old and stay at home Mom to two little boys (ages 3 and 1). I absolutely love to read and sneak pages any chance I get. I read a little bit of everything and LOVE discovering a new series that I can sink my teeth into. This sounds like such a fun way to discover (and rediscover) some wonderful books/authors that I might have skipped over in the past. Looking forward to the challenge!

Taryn (ijustlovethisbook) Hi! My name is Taryn. I'm a relatively recent college grad currently working as a Personal Assistant. I have always always always loved reading, and I love this whole idea - everytime I go to the library, I'm at such a loss as to which books to take out. This challenge gives me a great way of choosing books now! Pretty excited about this :)

message 533: by Anna (new)

Anna (afretheim) | 3 comments Hello everyone! My name's Anna, I'm going to be a college sophomore, and I love reading (of course.) I love traveling the world, so many of my favorite books are set around the world!
Taryn, I'm like you. There are just so many books to read I always have trouble picking! Currently I'm working through all the unread books in my bookshelf. That task will take all summer, but luckily enough each one of them will count for a task for this challenge!

message 534: by Lily (new)

Lily | 3 comments Hi! My name is Lily, and I am a 27 year old, recently married teacher who has the summer off. I love spending my free (!!!) days cooking, laughing with my husband, and reading. I am excited about the challenge and can't wait to start racking up points! Bring it on, bring it on...

message 535: by Henry (new)

Henry (henryl) | 1 comments My name is Henry. I am 46 and live in beautiful, warm, sunshiny Tampa, Florida. There are many things I enjoy in life, with a good book being at or near the top of the list. I read many different genres and like the the idea of a book challenge. I am currently working two jobs, but hope to find time to participate in the discussions. My favorite books of all time include The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, Catch-22, The Book Thief, Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, When Christ and His Saints Slept by Sharon Kay Penman and Pillars of The Earth, to name just a few. A big "thanks" goes out to Terri for the information and invite to the group.

message 536: by Terri FL (new)

Terri FL (territhemuse) | 615 comments Yeah! 4 of my f2f book club friends are now in the challenge!

message 537: by Trish (new)

Trish | 1 comments My name is Trish. I live in beautiful, steamy South Tampa, Florida. I reunited with my love of reading after putting it on hold for my busy career in the Navy. After I retired last June I found a couple of great book clubs and our fearless leader Terri lead me to this wonderful website and this challenge. I work at the VA, but spend my evenings playing with my dogs, enjoying the sunshine and reading, reading reading.... This will be my first challenge and I look forward to finally dusting of some of the books that have been on my shelves for awhile...

message 538: by Mary (new)

Mary Raihofer (bittersweet19) Hello all,
My name is Mary and I live in the Hudson Valley just south of Albany, NY. I am a retired educator and vowed that once retired, I'd read all the books that are stacked in piles. Well the piles of unread books just get higher..... Currently I am reading "Slow Love," - How I lost my job,put on my pajamas and found happiness by Dominique Browning. She was the editor of House and Garden and in 2007, the magazine folded. Beautifully written. I am captivated by her resiliency and the changes that one must face when becoming unemployed as happens with downsizing etc. A great read.

message 539: by Sara (new)

Sara (saradiann) | 22 comments Hi I'm Sara from Louisiana. I have way too many books on my "to-read" list, and this is a great way to get through them. I recently got rid of cable tv in favor of an antenna.... and I'm getting lots more reading done...it's great! Since June 1 I have finished "The Help"..."The Handmaid's Tale"... and "March"...I'm gonna fit them into the tasks somehow!!

message 540: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Hey I'm Rachel from Canada!
I love reading and I always have, I think this group is a really cool way to explore some new books and have some friendly competition :) I read all kinds of books, I'm really eclectic. I will be starting my 3rd and final year of university majoring in theatre and film. I am also a professional pianist and have done some modelling.
I read every day no matter what, even if it's 15 minutes before bed but generally a lot more than that :p
Glad to be part of the group! :)

message 541: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 1 comments I'm Jackie and I'm 23! I'm currently a stay at home mom of 2 --- 5 yrs old and 11 weeks old! I plan on staying home with our newest until she is old enough for me to go back to school to finish a bachelors! (I've already got an AA). I've always loved to read but I fall in and out of steady reading. I'm really looking forward to be introduced to new reads I would have not picked up otherwise!!

Sue (suetinge) | 1579 comments Welcome Jackie!

message 543: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Falk Hello from Allentown, Pa. I'm a freelance graphic designer and work at home mom to an incredible 2-1/2-year-old who is inspiring me to get back to reading more regularly since he has decided that he loves to read, too. A lot of my reading is using iBook and I am getting quite the collection of books. I'm excited to have found this group and I'm looking forward to finding some new things that I wouldn't have chosen without the inspiration of this group. Since I'm starting late, I guess I have some ground to make up...

message 544: by Casey (new)

Casey | 70 comments Hi! I'm Casey, and I'm 26 and living in a small town about 20 miles west of Knoxville, TN. I found Goodreads a couple of months ago and it's really helped motivate me to read all the books on my bookshelves! I travel a lot with my job, so I get a lot of my reading done on the road.

I don't really have a favorite genre - I tend to go in phases though, where everything I read for several weeks is from the same one.

This group sounds like a lot of fun!

message 545: by Donna Jo (new)

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments Sharon and Casey, glad you could join us. Remember, you can use anything you've read since June 1.
Have fun.

message 547: by Melissa (new)

Melissa H | 2 comments Hello Everyone!
I am Melissa and I am 33 years old. I am an English teacher, who loves to read and find great books to share. I just stumbled upon the Goodreads website while looking for a new title to bring to my bookclub tomorrow. I think I am going to suggust The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

I am motivated by challenge and this seems to be fun and interesting. Hopefully, I will be able to use some of the ideas to motivate my 7th graders too.

I usually choose to read fiction, but am currently reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.

I keep a journal of the books I have read and when I finished them...hoping that some of them will count toward this challenge, if they were June/July titles.

Melissa

message 548: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 1579 comments Welcome Melissa! Yes, anything you read in June or so far in July will count for the challenge. Happy Reading.
