Melanie Darrow (melaniedarrow) | 0 comments Hi, my name is Melanie. I'm new to goodreads...but I love it so far. I am looking forward to this challenge...although figuring out the points will take a little getting used to. Overall...this is a great idea! I'm an English teacher, and I love to quilt, sew, raise goats, and tend to my chickens. I have three cats...Kitkat, MewMew, and Dewey Decimal. I ca't wait to get started on the challenge....:)

message 452: by B (new)

B (kristenlovesbooks) I love that you have a cat named Dewey Decimal!!! :)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments Welcome to all the new folks. Don't worry about getting started late, just do what you can. I thought half the fun of the challenge was figuring out where I could plug in books that I already had wanted to read but kept putting off. I'm glad to have you join us on the challenge! In fact I liked the figuring out of the slots so much that since I have now completed the Spring challenge that I am now working my way through the Fall challenge on my own. I know, I know I'm OCD!

I'm Denise and I'm a 21 year old living in a small Texas town by the Mexican border. I had forgotten that I had a Goodreads account but now that I'm back, I plan to stick to it. I am so excited about doing the challenge. I doubt I'll be able to finish but love the, well, challenge of it.

Haha ...Thank you...He is a joy to have around...and loves books as much as I do...only he just cuddles up next to them.

message 456: by Thea (new)

Thea (thea7) Hi guys, my name is Thea and I live in Long Island, New York. I am 15 years old and I love to read. I am brand new to goodreads and this challenge group seems like a lot of fun!

message 457: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 2 comments Hey all, my name's Kristie, 20, from Virginia and going to school in Pennsylvania. I had a previous goodreads account, but lost all the information for it and so this is my new one. I'm a wildlife conservation major and I'm vaguely considering a Russian minor, though I'm thinking I'll just study it on my own. In addition to literature, I love nature, animals and outdoorsy things; music, especially of the rock variety; movies; and vintage and indie things.

I've managed to fit most of my March and April reading into the current challenge and will post my progress soon. :)

message 458: by Petra (new)

Petra Welcome, Thea and Kristie! Looking forward to your book list in the next challenge!

message 459: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissa6705) | 2 comments Hi, I am Melissa. I am from Texas. I am so excited to start. I didn't want to start in the middle of a challange so I will wait until June 1st. I have a 6 year old little girl and I am engaged to marry a wonderful man in October. I look forward to getting to know everyone.

message 460: by Linda (new)

Linda (linda_green) Hi! I'm Elizabeth and am in my mid-30's. I have two wonderful boys (10 and 11) and work as a programming coordinator at a small, rural library. For pleasure, I read a lot of literary fiction and for my job I read a lot of YA fiction before we put it on our shelves. I do a lot of writing in my spare time including both fiction and non-fiction. I also help manage a website for fanfiction authors dealing with Harry Potter. I'm pretty busy and joined goodreads last November but haven't got to meet many people or participate much. By joining the challenge group I'm hoping to change that so I can broaden my reading genres.

ColleenPA | 79 comments Hi, my name is Colleen, and I am a closer to 50 than 40, let's just say that. I am a wife, mother of two very active girls, and a college professor who is trying to make good on a resolution to read more for pleasure than for research (I study political advertising). I joined my first Reading Challenge (What's in a Name 3) about a month ago, and I am loving it. But I'm already 1/2 way through the challenge (it's only six books), and wanted to find another one to keep me busy while I travel this summer. So I'm anxiously awaiting the Summer 2010 reading list. I've never done a points-oriented challenge, so I hope I'll be able to figure out what's going on! I'm looking forward to getting inspiration from everyone's reading ideas -- I tend to read a lot of microhistories and memoirs, but I do love a great mystery when I can find one!

message 463: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments Welcome Lou and Colleen,

I think you will find an adequate amount of good reading material if you do the summer challenge. My first one was the Spring challenge and I LOVED it. It was so much fun coming up with books I already wanted to read that fit the different slots. I hope you enjoy it here as much as I have.

message 464: by Deana (new)

Deana Pittman I am so excited about this group! I am Deana Pittman and I am an ESL teacher in Mississippi. I am married and have a three-year old daughter, Abbi, and a 16 year-old exchange student, Jinny.

I love to read and am very excited about this Spring Challenge. Although I am just starting, I will do my best! I am looking forward to the summer challenge where I can start fresh with the rest of the group!

Thanks for starting this group!

message 465: by Cara (new)

Cara Best (goodreadscomcaraparis) Hi everyone. I'm Cara Best and I live in Tarboro, North Carolina, which I'd never heard of until we moved here. To give you an idea of how isolated we are, it is 2 1/2 miles to our nearest neighbor's house, so needless to say I have lots of time to read!

I'm 58 years young, was born in Swindon, England and have been to at least 12 foreign countries and have been in all 50 states.

I have always loved to read, my Mom used to claim that I was born with a book in my hand. All the jobs I have held have been related to reading (except for being a shrimp cleaner in Alaska) or writing.

message 466: by Blakely (new)

Blakely | 3 comments Hello everyone!

My name is Blakely, and I'm a recent social work graduate from Kansas City. My partner and I live in a tiny apartment with our cat and toy poodle. It's a cozy little existence.

I was thrilled to find this group after I had been snooping around TNBBC to see if they were going to have another summer challenge. Now I know there is one for every season! *nerdy glee*

I love these challenges, because I sometimes get stuck in a reading rut and they encourage me to branch out a little more. I certainly look forward to this summer's challenges.

Thanks!

message 467: by Nichole (new)

Nichole (nichole_roberts) Hello all! My name is Nichole, I'm a 33-yr-old overactive, single mother of one. I love to read which at times I find myself just too busy to read or get lazy and don't when I could easily pick up a book rather than surfing the internet or thumbing through one of my scout projects (cub scout leader).

I have been looking for a book club of sorts but love the concept of this one. I love the fact that currently "The Historian" is the pick as I started that book sometime a year or so ago and never picked it back up despite having read 10-15 books since then.

I am always looking for new genres to try, especially since having been turned on to the thriller genre thanks to one of my closest friends being a writer and recently published. So look forward to giving this challenge a shot - thanks for sharing this with the GoodReads community!

Nicole Dreibelbeis (nicoledreibelbeis) | 132 comments Hi,
My name is Nicole and Im a librarian in Chesterfield County, VA. I'm 24 years old and happily married to my husband Chris and mom to one smallish orange kitten named Jack. We have just purchased our first house and will be moving in in 2 weeks!! I am a huge reader (no surprise there) and am looking forward to getting more creative to complete the challenge tasks. I mostly read young adult books, and am especially inclined to pick up fantasy. I am excited to join the summer challenge :-)

message 469: by Karen Michele (new)

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 2062 comments I've just joined Goodreads recently and come across this Seasonal Challenge. I'm very excited to try it this summer. I'm already participating in some challenges, so I hope I can make it work. I'm a high school librarian, so challenges help me keep to a broad range of reads and it looks like this one will be a lot of fun. I can't wait to see what challenges are posted for summer and start to plan my list!
Thanks for all the work it takes to put this on.

message 470: by EowynRN (new)

EowynRN | 3 comments Hello, I just joined goodreads and love to read. I'm a 28 yr old full time mom to a 2 yr old and one on the way, and nursing student (one year until I get my RN!) School just finished for summer, so I was thinking of doing the summer reading challenge. I always find time to read, even in the school year, and am excited to see how well I do. I'm a total romance nut, but I try to read other things as well. Thanks for putting htis on Cynthia, I know it's a lot of work!

message 471: by Kathy G. (new)

Kathy G. | 1931 comments Hello! I'm Kathy and I live in California. I'm a 2nd grade teacher. I absolutely ADORE reading and read to my kids everyday. I often read books several grade levels above the kids to increase their vocabulary. This is my very first challenge ever. I'm especially looking forward to summer reading. I hope to read at least one book on the spring reading list since I just joined. :-)

message 472: by Kim (new)

Kim DeCina (ladyindigo) | 44 comments Hey there! I'm finally making good use of my goodreads account and joining some groups, and I'm alraedy addicted to just planning out my Summer 2010. (I want to start reading but I don't want to get too far ahead and have it not count XD) Anyway, I'm Kim, 24 from Florida, and I love fantasy, sci-fi, and fast-paced but thoughtful reads especially. Happy to meet you all! <3

message 473: by Stormy (new)

Stormy (silverana) | 1 comments Hi I'm Stormy, I'm 25 (26 in less then a month) I've always loved reading I learned how to read when I was 3 and been reading ever since. I'm a mom and sometimes that makes it difficult to get reading in but I find the time. I'm looking forward to the challenges and maybe I can be introduced to some books I may not have read otherwise

message 474: by Katelin (new)

Katelin | 70 comments Hello! I'm Katelin and I'm 29 years old. I live in Florida and I LOVE to read. I found this group a couple of days ago and have spent ALL of my free time preparing my Summer Challenge list. I have 2 small children, so I will do my best to get some of the books read. I'm excited! Thanks Cynthia!

message 476: by Trina (new)

Trina Hi!! I'm Trina, 25, and live in Maryland. I absolutely love to read and was interested in doing a challenge for the summer. Not sure how this will all work out since I am also starting back to school for my master's, but it should be interesting. If all else fails, I'll read instead of doing schoolwork! Anyways, I'm really excited to join this group and have already started figuring out what books I'll read for this summer.

message 477: by Lindsey (last edited May 19, 2010 09:56AM) (new)

Lindsey (_lindsey_) | 498 comments Hi all! I'm Lindsey, and I live in Tennessee. I am moving back to my home in the Chicago suburbs in a few months - can't wait. Let's see, I'm not very good at introductions, so some random facts - I'm 26, work full time as a web application developer, and obviously I like to spend a lot of my time reading! My passion in life besides books is veganism/animal rights. I love to cook all sorts of delicious foods, though not so much recently since I'm trying to lose a good deal of weight! If only it were easier to read and seriously exercise at the same time!
I just recently stumbled across this group, and I thought it sounded amazing! I can't wait to join in the fun. Thank you so much to everyone responsible for creating and maintaining this place :D

message 478: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline (vayleen) | 7 comments Hello! My name is Jacqueline, I'm 26, and I live in Anchorage, AK. I work full-time in a specialty toy store where we promote toys for open-ended play in all age groups. I love theatre, and I try to stay active in the local community. I also LOVE reading, and can get fairly obsessed with it if I'm not careful.

My other hobbies include creative culinary pursuits, writing, beading, paper crafts, gardening, and fun types of exercise including dancing, pilates, and yoga. I also love the outdoors and extreme climates, so I read outside a lot.

This summer will be my first challenge, I'm looking forward to it.

message 479: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra My name's Laura, I'm 20, and I'm from upstate New York. I'm going to college for Biochemistry but I'm off now because it's summer. I'm looking for a job, but not very hard because I'd be fine with being a lazy bum all summer.

My hobbies are reading (of course), playing the piano, crochet, and going for long walks. I also love cats, so I'm destined to be one of those old women who have three cats and knit all day. I probably read more manga than novels, but I don't like to count manga toward the challenges.

My favorite book is Labyrinths by Jorge Luis Borges. I'm not sure what my favorite genre is. I like to read books by recommendation, and I have a hard time separating what I think I should like from what I actually like.

My name is Z, and I live in the Western Arctic, in Canada. I'm an avid reader and with 24 hour sunlight here, I have no excuse to close my book and fall asleep....except for work, really. Bah, that bothersome work!

Anyways, super excited to try the new challenge and I hope I do okay!

message 483: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 3 comments Hi!
My name is Jess..I have been visiting the Goodreads website for awhile, but only recently discovered some of the awesome groups, giveaways and other things on here available in addition to just keeping track of books. I'm very excited to have found this group and am loving all the great book recommendations that come along with following the discussions. My only problem is that right now, I am spending way more time choosing books to read than actually reading! Looking forward to participating in the summer challenge!

message 484: by Leigh Ann (new)

Leigh Ann (leighannflyingonsilverwings) Hi! My name is Leigh Ann, and I LOVE reading. I always have a book (or iPod) in my hand. I feel the need to break out of my comfort genre (paranormal), so I love the idea of a challenge. I'm still not sure how this all works, but I'm going to figure it all out. Looking forward to the Summer challenge!

Jasmine, I like to see what other people read, too. Of course, that has meant that I've increased my TBR from about 6 books when I started doing these challenges to what is now in the neighborhood of 200 books.

message 489: by Jane(Janelba) (new)

Jane(Janelba) (janelba) Hi ! My name's Jane. I'm 40 and live in France. I am British and teach English at The Chambers of Commerce Language School. I retrained as an English teacher 4 years ago, before that, I was a professional musician and still do some private tuition. I stumbled across this group from a friends GR's page and it intrigued me. I know I will never make it to 500 points nor complete the challenge in 3 months as my reading time is limited but I am an avid list maker and am looking forward to attempting this challenge and getting to know people here !

message 490: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 51 comments Hello everyone! My name is Nicole and I am 24 years old. I just recently graduated with my Master of Arts in History :)I have a B.A. in Journalism and currently work as a Communications Assistant. I LOVE to read, travel, watch movies, and listen to good music. I will pretty much read any genre except cheesy romance novels, but...if the challenge calls for it, I'll do it! For awhile, I read nothing but historical non-fiction, but due to the fact that I have been reading nothing but historical non-fiction for the past two years, I need a change :) I love fiction, mystery, crime, bios; anything so if you have some good recommendations, please let me know!!!!

message 491: by Angie (new)

Angie (tikkledpink) | 37 comments Hi! My name is Angie. I'm 31 years old... and am a stay-at-home Mommy... I love to read! I mostly only get to read during my 1-year-old daughter's down time, but I'm constantly amazed at how much reading I can get done in a day. I'm so happy I found this group. I'm very excited to get started on the Summer Challenge! Hopefully I can keep up with all of you fellow GoodReads pros!!

message 492: by Celeste (new)

Celeste | 46 comments Hello all,
My name is Celeste, I'm from Clarksville Va. I have a MA in English Ed and writing so reading is what I do. This is a great way to broaden my horrizens. I am currently part time at DCC and looking for a full time teaching position. Certified in English and Journalism. You we were always told teaching was a secure field. Watch out nurses...
I do have a question though. Can one book count for two things, e.g. I'm reading and author I've never read before and the cover has a beach scene.

message 493: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Jankowski | 1 comments I my name is Cheryl and I work as Children's Programmer at the Kitchener Public Library in Ontario Canada.

I have always had a love of reading and getting my job at the library has allowed my love to grow and flurish. I am open to read anything someone suggests to me and I am always looking forward to hearing about a new and exciting book. I have really started to branch out in my gener of books as people have suggested books or I have meet an author.

I love meeting authors and always read what they have written before I meet them (or after if I did not know I would get the great opportunity to meet them!)This has helped my branching out in my book choices as well. I am looking forward to seeing what authors are on Good Reads!!

So I am going to try the summer Chanllenge and see how it goes. Hopefully I will beable to earn some points!!

message 494: by Allison (new)

Allison | 1 comments My name is Allison. I live in Missouri and just graduation college. I start my first "big girl" job- teaching 2nd grade- in the fall.

I really enjoyed these challenges when they were part of the TNBCC group. I had a very taxing school year, so was MIA for a while, and then was distressed when I returned to TNBCC and they were gone. Very glad that I found them again.

I am starting with the Summer 2010 challenge. It will be a challenge indeed, because we are also moving across the state, so I am trying to complete it with books from my own collection. But, we'll see how well that goes :)

message 495: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidi422) My name is Heidi. I am never happier than when i am in a book, and I am always excited to hear what others are reading. My only challenge with books has been, "What do I read next?" This sounded so fun, that I have to participate! I only have one friend on here, so I hope to expand my social circle! I live in Leola, PA which is east of Lancaster. I am 37 years old and I work with individuals with developmental disabilities. And I never have enough time to read!

message 496: by Allie (new)

Allie (tubeofaim) | 37 comments My name is Allison, I'm 29 and live southern California. I'm currently an accounting clerk, though in the past 5 years I have been an Art School Secretary, A secondary Teacher, a Bookseller and a Barista.

I've always thought I was a big reader....though after scrolling through some of the posts here, I'm feeling quite humbled.

I first set a reading goal in 2009 - my aim was 100 books with the idea that 10% of them would be non-fiction, I made it to 80 books, a little short of my goal but not too shabby....or so I thought until I realized that there were people reading that many books in 3 months! My goal for 2010 is 100 books again, though I'll just be happy if I beat my 2009 number.

I'm quite new to Goodreads (I've only really been active for a couple of months) and just stumbled on to this group. I'm really excited to start the summer reading challenge!

Lost Planet Airman | 177 comments My name is Mike. I'm about a month belated in saying "Hi!" to everyone. I'm a full-time test engineer for airplanes and a part time college teacher. Then, somewhere after full-time husband and dad of three, I make time for a little reading.
We don't have many pictures of me, so for a lark I found a favorite hero of mine from reading - Rex Libris, the tough-as-nails Head Librarian at Middleton Public Library.
(For the record, I believe that I look more like Librarian Flynn Carsen than Rex Libris. My wife may argue the point.)

Pinky_rocks | 68 comments My name is Martina, I turned 23 two weeks ago and I'm from Germany. To my friends I'm known as a book-nerd :) I don't care though, cause I'm lucky they read too. Maybe not as much as I do, but still...

I always have a selection of around 40 books to choose from, just because I'm addicted to buying/exchanging/getting books :)

I read all kinds of different books so there really isn't a special genre I prefer.

I can't exactly remember how I found this group, but I have a feeling that I'll be here often. this is just my type of thing, getting suggestions for what to read next, although I'm afraid my stack of books will only be growing with this :)

This is my first challenge and I am excited to find some new genres and authors to read. I haven't been on Goodreads that long but love the diversity and dialogue I've found here.

Besides reading, I also like to scrapbook and watch movies. Can't wait to get to know more of you here!

I live in Maryland and work in DC, where I am an officer in the Navy. My free time right now is spent pursuing my PhD in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, so reading is my means of escaping. I'll read pretty much anything I can find and can often be found sitting outside in the backyard reading while my puppy plays!
