I would, but I'm still on book buy lockdown... *side-eyes bev*

message 457: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, me too. Though just came out of the public library.
It is oddly frustrating and nice at the same time to not buy.
I am overburdened with choices but the new Andrews book just came out.
If you want to wait and start on the first, Ela?

Perfect! I already started book 2!

message 462: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments Tasha, Dirty English was decent, just not fantastic for me. I can't remember the details though.

I am sure I have read some decent mafia reads, but will have to research. The one that immediately pops in my head that I loved was Last Hit (Hitman, #1) by Jessica Clare . The H is a russian mobster/assassin.

message 463: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments One of my favorite mafia series is The Devil's Eyes by Jennifer Loren. I know there's another series I highly would recommend but I'll have to search for it. In the meantime:

Leslie | 2430 comments Tasha, I don't think you have read these:

Lev (Shot Callers, #1) by Belle Aurora
Friend-Zoned (Friend-Zoned, #1) by Belle Aurora
The Missing Link (Marked, #1) by J.M. Sevilla

JudyCa | 1709 comments This is a mafia series I absolutely loved... Sempre (Sempre, #1) by J.M. Darhower Sempre Redemption (Sempre, #2) by J.M. Darhower Made (Sempre, #0.4) by J.M. Darhower

I loved Lev... I haven't read the rest of these. I'm in a total funk... so I need a new rec. What are the odds of getting Fabi to do our Pick for Me early?? LOL!

JudyCa | 1709 comments Tasha wrote: "Oh yes, I LOVED Sempre and Made also Judy!! I actually think Sempre was my first, so it's hard to measure up to. Never did get to reading the second though."

You really should read 'Redemption' but only because imo 'Made' was my fav of the 3...and I think you should read them in order ;)

Sparrow by Shen, L.J.

message 470: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah Grey, when does this end again??? Lol.
Actually havent read much in the last 2 days or so. And sometimes I do this weird thing or when I'm not reading that much I start buying more. So if I didn't have this no Buy in place I would have bought like 20 books in the last 2 days.

message 473: by [deleted user] (new)

There is a Nora Roberts one i love. It takes place in Ireland childhood friends. He works as a cook at the family pub and is musical. Handsome and a dreamer. She is very pratical and is partners with her father in his business. They do carpentry and stuff. Anyway he had a broken nose as a child caused by her during a game of baseball. It is sweet cause it is like a story the whole town knows. Mmm, i liked that one.

I read that one, bev... I loved that one too.

Jan (jan130) Grey wrote: "I read that one, bev... I loved that one too."

I read and liked that Nora Roberts one too. I think there was a series and I read them all.

Tasha, mafia? I liked Susan Fanetti's Pagano family books, although some weren't as good as others. My fav was probably Deep Deep (Pagano Family, #4) by Susan Fanetti but I also liked Rooted Rooted (Pagano Family, #3) by Susan Fanetti Yeah I know, terrible title LOL. Or isn't that rude in US? In Oz it's a euphemism for, yeah well, nuff said.

I also liked the Cora Reilly series (except the latest one which was a shocker). The others were all pretty good. I see the first one Bound by Honor Bound by Honor (Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles, #1) by Cora Reilly is free on kindle australia at the moment.

I also quite liked Sarah Brianne's Nero Nero (Made Men, #1) by Sarah Brianne but it's kinda mafia for juniors LOL. Kinda YA except it's not. Some of the characters are in school, I think. There's others in the series but they're still on my tbr.

Anna Penwick (annapenwick) | 166 comments Tasha wrote: "Hey can someone recommend a good mafia book?"
You have probably already picked one but just in case.
My favorite mafia series is Eagle Elite by Rachel van Dyken. The first book is Elite (Eagle Elite, #1) by Rachel Van Dyken

message 478: by [deleted user] (new)

Jan,......rooted? Really? Lol. No euphemisms here.

message 479: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) Um yeah, Coarse Aussie way of saying f@@@ed, both as the physical act, or as in 'wrecked'. So, not the greatest book title evah.

Jan (jan130) Ela wrote: "Oooooo what's the title of the Nora book?"

I think it is Tears of the Moon Tears of the Moon (Gallaghers of Ardmore / Irish Trilogy, #2) by Nora Roberts . One of the Irish trilogy, anyway. I read and liked them all (a while ago) but get a bit mixed up which was which. There is a touch of the pnr in them which I really dislike in some of Nora's books but didn't mind in these ones. It wasn't a big element, from memory.

LOL. I think that's the author's intention with the title, but we crass types here in Australia have to have a bit of a giggle.

Jan, I must be one of the crass Australian types as I really did giggle. Just the slang in Australia. Haha

Jan (jan130) Leslie wrote: "Hey, how about you Aussie's teach us American's some more of your dirty words?!? 😘😆😁"

Haha Leslie. Probably a lot of ours are the same as yours. But when I was a teen, I was asked the classic question a few times: "Wanna root?" And, yeah, that's what it means....... And no, I didn't take up those finely expressed offers.

There used to be some funny rhyming slang (probably from the cockney convicts). My dad used to call a meat pie (a popular snack over here) a 'dog's eye'. (I know). Tomato sauce that went with the pie could be referred to as 'dead horse' (rhymes with sauce. See?)

Funny euphemisms:
Meat and 2 veg (think about it.....) or 'family jewels'
popped their clogs (means 'died' - so sensitive!)
bun in the oven - pregnant

The current generation aren't using Aussie slang as much these days. As we become a global village, the uniqueness of the slang is dying out. Oh well. That's the way the world turns.

Ela, lately in my HR madness I've read a few times that he 'mounted' her, or 'mounted a mistress'. Sounds like a rutting stallion haha.

message 499: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) Oh. Oops. Hahaha. In Australia, 'sauce' rhymes with 'horse'. (We also have a non-rhotic 'R' which means we don't pronounce the 'r' in 'horse'). Lots of US accents have a rhotic 'r'. No, not 'erotic r' LOL. Get your mind out of the gutter. It means you sound the r in words like 'horse', but we don't over here.

Vagina floss *chokes* In a recent HR I was reading, the h's pubic hair was referred to as 'maiden hair'. I couldn't decide whether that was sweet or icky.
