Sci Fi short story or possibly novella about a reporter interviewing people about an invention that lets people not perceive physical beauty. One girl interviewed who had grown up with the implant preventing physical beauty perception decides to remove the implant after her boyfriend breaks up with her only to discover that she is drop dead gorgeous and her ex boyfriend is average looking

also the story talks about problems with the device
ex. some people cannot tell the difference between cars when on the implant due to beauty perceptions being changed
