Lena (nlgmcr69) | 214 comments I read the first entire hour of the sprint before getting on the computer.

For the sprint I am trying to finish up a book I've been reading this week. I was able to get 47 pages read during the sprint.

Book I am reading: All the Little Raindrops by Mia Sheridan

message 202: by Liv (new)

Liv | 50 comments Nicely done! Enjoying the book?

Lena (nlgmcr69) | 214 comments Liv wrote: "Nicely done! Enjoying the book?"

Yes, so far I am. There are some scenes that are hard to read & that could be triggering for some people. But it is fast paced and I find myself wanting to jump ahead and see what happens to characters, etc., which for me is a sign I am heavily involved emotionally in those characters and that is something I love in a book. I'm only half way through so we'll see how it all ends up.

Lena (nlgmcr69) | 214 comments Half-Way Progress

So we have now reached the halfway mark. I am not doing to fantastic so far. I keep getting distracted. Or worse yet, I keep dozing off. I guess I didn't sleep well this week & every time I sit down to read I doze off...and here it is the middle of the day. Night time might be a big struggle. Anyways, here are my stats so far:

Total Time Read: 5 hrs & 8 min

Total Pages Read: 194 Pages

Books Finished: 0

Books Read From: All the Little Raindrops by Mia Sheridan Patty Jane's House of Curl by Lorna Landvik The Stolen Book of Evelyn Aubrey by Serena Burdick Great Outdoors U.S.A. 1,000 Adventures Across All 50 States (National Geographic) by National Geographic

I ended up going to bed about my normal time. I think I am getting to the age I can't function without sleep. So, with that & the interuptions throughout the day of friends stopping by I didn't read as much as I would have liked. However, I am a person who reads daily so of course I will keep reading. It's my favorite type of self-care.

How did you rate All the Little Raindrops ?
Hope to see you at the next one in July.

Lena (nlgmcr69) | 214 comments Vicki Willis wrote: "How did you rate All the Little Raindrops ?"

I liked it overall. It kept me reading and wanting to see what happens next. And I liked both the main characters. My only issue really is that it felt like some of the "connections" between characters was forced to make the plot fit together and it kinda caused the overall conclusion to feel too easy. I ended up giving it 4 out of 5 stars.

message 211: by Lena (new)

Lena (nlgmcr69) | 214 comments I am not sure how much "organized" read-a-thon time I'll be able to devote to the reverse read-a-thon this coming weekend. However, I know I will read SOME during that time so I'll post what I am reading here, how much time I get to spend reading, etc.

Stay tuned for updates

Lena (nlgmcr69) | 214 comments As anticipated, I haven't really been able to officially participate much this time. However, I have read a tiny bit. I haven't finished any books, but have read a couple of chapters each from:

The Tao of Martha My Year of LIVING; Or, Why I'm Never Getting All That Glitter Off of the Dog by Jen Lancaster Odd Thomas (Odd Thomas, #1) by Dean Koontz Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

Oh I loved Remarkably Bright Creatures!

message 218: by Lena (new)

Lena (nlgmcr69) | 214 comments I am planning to participate again this time. I am still putting together my list and gathering my snacks.

Tentatively I will at least have these books on the pile:

By Any Other Name by Jodi Picoult One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle Brother Odd (Odd Thomas, #3) by Dean Koontz The Book Swap by Tessa Bickers The Life Impossible by Matt Haig

I may add more to it before Saturday, or I am such a mood reader I may pick up something completely new on Saturday or Sunday. But this is what I am thinking of as my core TBR pile.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Good to see you back, Lena! Oof, By Any Other Name was a struggle bus!! lol. I'm a big Picoult fan but I did not enjoy this one. The dip into historical fic I was just not a fan of. I also have The Life Impossible but I honestly have no idea what I'll be reading next weekend. lol

Lena (nlgmcr69) | 214 comments Opening Survey

1) What part of the world are you reading from today? Amarillo, Texas, USA

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? I have a pretty small stack today made up of books I've really been wanting to read so it is a hard choice. But I am going to say One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle (one of my favorite authors)

3) Which snacks are you most looking forward to? Almond M&M's are a tradition and I only buy them for read-a-thons

4) Is this your first Dewey's Readathon? No, I've been participating for years

5) What are your goals for this readathon? 1000 pages read

6) Which book are you starting with for this readathon? I started with the one I am most looking forward to reading hoping it would give me a boost early on: One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle

7) Tell us a little something about yourself! I am the mom of a wonderful 15 year old girl, who unfortunately does not like to read for "fun". My reading buddy today will be our overweight ginger house cat, Cooper.

I had that same struggle with one of her other books, The Book of Two Ways. I had a hard time getting into reading it, etc., but eventually ended up enjoying it. I've read all of her books now except By Any Other Name but am not sure about the storyline after reading the synopsis. I am hoping to end up enjoying it though.

Lena (nlgmcr69) | 214 comments 2024 Closing Survey
1. How many books did you read during this readathon? Did you have any favorites? How many books did you finish? I read from 4 different books, but only finished 1.

2. Did you accomplish your goals for this readathon? Not my official goals. I wanted to beat my record of time actually spent reading (record was 16 hrs set in 2020), but I only managed to actually read for 10 hrs & 46 minutes. I am just getting old and tend to doze off, etc. I also wanted to read 1000 pages, but only managed to read 482 pages.

3. How did your snacks and meals work out? Are there things you would change about the food and beverages side of your readathon for next time? I need something not carby or sugary. Something with more protein to it. I'll be thinking about it for next time. For meals we just did Uber Eats, which worked out well so I think I'll like do that again next time.

4. Did you enjoy this readathon? What was the most successful part of your readathon? What would you change for next time? I always love when I can have time just to focus on reading. I think next time I will wait to "check in" online until afternoon hours (about 6 hrs in for me) and keep my morning reading momentum going for as long as I can.

5. Will you be continuing your readathon reading past the end of our official readathon? I will continue reading as I started 3 books that I haven't finished yet. However, I won't be tracking my time or pages read.

Lena (nlgmcr69) | 214 comments I will be participating again this time for the April 2025 R-a-T, although I may be slightly more limited in how much I can participate. I have a couple of tasks that need done that will take me away from home and reading that day, but I hope to get at least several hours of reading done before and after.

I will gather my list and post it as it gets a little closer to the date. Trying to finish up some books before then so I can start fresh for the read-a-thon.

Lena (nlgmcr69) | 214 comments As I anticipated I wasn't really able to participate at all. I didn't get to log on at all during the event.

However, I did read for a total of 2 hours and 34 minutes on Saturday night and finished 105 pages.

I read from two books during that time (although I did not finish either during the event):

Outside Wonderland A Novel by Lorna Jane Cook & The Girl from Everywhere (The Girl from Everywhere, #1) by Heidi Heilig

Hopefully I will be able to participate more next time!

The synopsis of Aftertaste has me intrigued. Beautiful Ugly is one I need to read for a GoodReads challenge. Fredrik Backman is one of my all time favorite authors so I am really looking forward to My Friends, but wanted to wait to start it until I had some solid blocks of time to savor and enjoy...perfect for a Read-a-Thon!

Lena (nlgmcr69) | 214 comments Opening Survey

1. How many Dewey's Readathons have you participated in? I am not sure, but my first Dewey's was in October, 2016 and I try to participate at least a few hours each April & October and sometimes in July.

2a. If this is not your first Dewey's Readathon, what are your favorite things from past Dewey's readathons? Are you trying anything new or different this time? My favorite is getting to connect online with so many readers! In my everyday life none of my friends or family (except my dad) love to read so it feels nice connecting with other book lovers.

2b. What are your goals, and what are you looking forward to during this Readathon? My goal is to be my best total time read (which is currently 18 hrs and some odd minutes), so I hope to amass at least 19 hrs of pure reading time. I am looking forward to the online connections and also reading some great books.

3. What are you looking forward to eating and drinking during this Readathon? I have my traditional Almond M&Ms to snack on. I try to have them at every Dewey's.

4. Are you sticking to our official Readathon times or adjusting for your schedule/preferences/etc.? I read every day...it's just who I am. So during the read a thons I try to stick to the official times and just track how much of that 24 hours I actually spend reading.

5. Where are you reading from today? the Texas panhandle

Lena (nlgmcr69) | 214 comments Half-Point Progress Report

1. How is your Readathon going? Have you finished 12 hours of reading so far? I took a bit of an overnight nap. lol So far I've completed only 5 hours and 10 minutes of actual reading time.

2. Have you eaten real food yet in the past 12 hours? How much water have you drunk so far in the past 12 hours? No water, so I'll get some now. Lots of coffee. And I just ate chicken tenders for brunch.

3.Are you doing a Bingo board or other specific challenge during this Readathon? How is that going so far? Nope, just challenging myself to read as much as I can, although a few of the books on my stack will be used in other GoodReads challenges

4. Have you finished any books so far in this half of the Readathon? I finished Tilt by Emma Pattee, but I tend to be a mood reader so I jump between several books during read-a-thons

5. Are you on track to finish what you want to this weekend? What are your plans for the next 12 hours? I won't beat my best time, which was originally my goal. But I still love just sitting and reading for blocks of time. So, that is what I plan to do over the remainder of the time left.

message 246: by Lena (last edited Jul 20, 2025 01:06PM) (new)

Lena (nlgmcr69) | 214 comments End Survey

1. How did your Readathon go overall? Overall, it went pretty well. I slept more than I planned to, but I did get over 12 hours of actual reading time in.

2. Are you continuing to read for the rest of the weekend? I read every day so of course I'll be reading

3. How many books have you read in this Readathon? How many have you finished? Which was your favorite? I only finished 1 book, but I started or read part of 5 others. I am really enjoying All the Other Mothers Hate Me but am only half way though.

4. Do you plan to do other reading events or readathons between now and October 18th (our next Readathon)? Probably, it will just depend on what events I find or see online.

5. Have you added any tempting books to your TBR during this Readathon? not yet, but likely will as I read everyones wrap ups, etc.
