bubblegumpopper I need some input from people that have already read this series. I enjoy some good erotica, but I really can't stand overly neurotic and damaged characters. I enjoyed 50 Shades of Grey because there was enough emotional issues to allow room for growth, but they both got to a healthy place in a realistic amount of time. Most importantly they TALKED to each other about their issues.

On the other hand, I am HATING the Sylvia Day series because both characters go beyond having "issues" and swan dive into hopeless headcase territory. Three books later and Day has managed to do nothing but prattle on about their damage without actually resolving ANY of it. The sex scenes are hot, but the rest of the books leave me with a burning rage inside my chest that makes me want to scream.

I would like to know which side of the fence this series falls on. From the reviews I've read I already have my doubts because the female protagonist sounds like a broken doll. Could someone that's read the whole series please let me know whether this is a safe bet for me or whether I should avoid it like the plague. :)

UPDATE: I did end up reading the series and they were enjoyable enough. I wouldn't say they're amazing or anything, but the female heroine did not get on my nerves like I thought she might. Thanks for all your inputs!

Pianisuparse I see your dilemma Chelsea, I'm not sure that I will be much help to you as I tend to LOVE my damaged neurotic characters. I have read the series and ABSOLUTELY LOVED it BUT looking at it from an impartial perspective both Laney and Hudson are the epitome of neurotic. Hudson does tend to keep alot to himself so that may be another issue for you and I don't know about others but this had a very Gideonish vibe to it, which I loved, you probably wouldn't!
As much as I would highly recommend it to others I don't think it would be a safe bet at all, it would stretch your boundaries I think and when there are so many other AMAZING books out there and even though it goes against everything in me cos I LOVE Hudson and Laney I'd avoid it I think.

Keya Hmmm, I love the 50 shades trilogy and I LOVE the crossfire series. I'm a huge fan of damaged souls, craziness, angst, drama, character development... but I hope I can help. In crossfire series, both the protagonists have their issues and it seems those issues are deeper than we thought, so we're dealing with Eva's at one point and then with Gideon's. As for 50, most of the 'issues' are based around Christian and the development of his character and relationship.

Now, the fixed trilogy, Hudson and Layla's 'issues' are quite distinct but similar to each other. The trilogy left me quite speechless and surprised because i wasn't expecting much but i'm glad i read it. If you're talking about nuerotic... then this trilogy falls under that category and probably at the top of the list. Personally, for me it was a good kind of crazy, but if i put my self in your shoes it may make you feel like it's too much... i'm not sure. Hudson has this broodish, mysterious vibe about him... a bit of Gideon and a bit of christian. They're both quite vague about their actions first but start to open up and Hudson fits into that... although he's probably a little bit more 'mysterious'. It made the story interesting for me but that may be an issue for you?

As for Layla, she isn't your typical female protagonist. She's a very interesting and very different to a lot of female protagonist. Together, their both quite a neurotic pair... There are some really nice character development if that's what you're interested in and I think development is key in this series otherwise it would've been disappointing.

This book probably sits on the fence between 50 and Crossfire. Both Hudson and Layla go through a lot and there's external factors that play more of role in the whole nuerotic-ness. I'd say give it a shot, but the beginning of the book doesn't do the whole trilogy justice. I'd highly recommend it to others but if you want to avoid the craziness, head spinning, complete issue driven, etc. then maybe think twice about reading it? Lol I feel like I'm deceiving the series for saying avoid it because I personally really loved Hudson and Layla.

Jena (lit_editions) Honestly... I really liked FSOG and I liked Crossfire, definitely not love and I definitely get your concerns. I read the first book of this series, but I stopped in the middle of the second. I think you should give a chance. Layla gets on my nerves with her mind in the second book and obsessiveness, but I've been told that I need/have to read this series. So my suggestions is just give it a try and if you just can't do it, read the Up In Air Series and then Tristan and Danika Series by R.K. Lilley and then the Driven series by K. Bromberg... that is my suggestion :)

Angel GO HAVE FUN READING IT! This is a great series and you'll love and hate some part but you'll sure enjoy and love reading it!

Amanda i feels that this series should not be compare with FSoG or crossfire. The heroine is neurotic, but I find the humor in her POV. If I am to judge from Book 1 alone, the hero was easy to love from the get go. He didn't have any fetishes or hang up going on. But of course there are more revelation in the subsequent books.

Kristin I liked this trilogy because of her issues. I liked Anastasia in FSoG, but she was a sheltered boring vanilla character. In this book both parties struggle and grow. My frustration revolved around the obviousness of the bits where something went wrong or seemed off. These main characters were both well versed in inappropriate behavior, I felt everyone should have caught on sooner. But it's definitely worth attempting to read. I say go for it.

Ginny Rose I agree with some of the posts here. I really won't compare FSoG with this particular series.

The characters have struggles that both are dealing with and it is mentioned early on. How they get passed it is what makes the story interesting. There are moments of shock value, moments in which you wish the characters were a little more sharp because they are some incidents that are obvious yet people act oblivious. None of the books end in cliffhangers and the main characters are likeable.

I've never read the Crossfire books because I've steered clear from them. I did read FSoG and there were moments that Christian worked my patience. Hudson here, doesn't.

You will enjoy it because it's a wrapped up trilogy.

Jessica This was one of my favorite series I've read. But I have to admit that halfway through the second book I almost gave up because Laney's tendencies kinda drove me bananas. I gave it up for like over a week...but I found myself missing the story and felling the real desire to finish it. I am so glad I did because it ended up being fantastic!

bubblegumpopper Thanks for all your opinions. I've read the first one and half of the second one and I'm not regretting it so far. I wouldn't say they're amazing or anything, but they're enjoyable enough (and short enough) that her neuroses haven't sent me over the edge yet. One thing that does not jive with me is that she's aware she has MAJOR issues, and yet is not seeing a therapist. Yes, she has a support group that she has attended (once), but that is definitely not enough. It isn't really sensical to me that she wouldn't be seeing professional help regularly.

Kristin If it's not court ordered and she reaches out when tempted, I don't see a problem. She was young, lonely and behaved poorly and got into trouble. She's not violent or delusional on a manic level. No matter what help is offered, we all have to get through stuff on our own. I don't remember but I don't think she's medicated during the story.

Jena (lit_editions) I struggled with this series too... the first book was okay, but by the second book I could not stop rolling my eyes. I don't like the overly neurotic either and I wouldn't even compare FSOG and Crossfire to this because there were some deeper, tangible issues (for me at least) that I could hold on to and relate to.

Should you read...yes, only you can be the judge, don't like it stop.

Sherri Wong Hell, yeah!
Give me an order of Hudson immediately! Admittedly, Bk 1 & 3 were the best...2 was a little repetitious with the sex scenes but worth reading the series. Can't wait to read Bk 4, Hudson.

I won't spoil the series for you, but think Cruel Intentions when heading into this series. It's an okay read. Lots of sex scenes. I did enjoy the story for the most part.

Lindsay Good God please read this!!! Its fantastic!!!

Michelle Toscano Chelsea wrote: "I need some input from people that have already read this series. I enjoy some good erotica, but I really can't stand overly neurotic and damaged characters. THE CHARCATERS IN THIS BOOK ARE AMAZING HUDSON IS AN ASS SOMETIMES BUT HE MEANS WELL AND I DO FIND MYSELF BELIEVING HIM WHEN HE TELLS LANIE THINGS. Michelle °O° This is one of the few series I really enjoyed the heroine more than the hero. At times I wanted to smack Hudson.

Shannon I got to the third one and I'm so sick of the characters, that I probably won't finish the series, at least for a little while. :S They're irritating me big time.
