SOLVED. YA Steampunk space adventure series. [s]

I read this series in ~2008. They followed a boy and his adventures in space with his friends (his mother and/or sister may also have been present) on a steampunk-esque spaceship. I remember that one of the books took place on a planet with a resort on it. The planet hadn't been covered in water in thousands of years but the resort had a time device that allowed a stretch of sand to go back in time and become a beach.

The books were new when I read them and there were 2-3 at the time. The books are probably categorized as YA (I found them in my middle school library, which didn't carry children's books) but if my memory serves most of the characters were closer to 12-13 years old.
