Emma Jaye | 3693 comments The review group is the most successful group for peer reviews on goodreads. It hosts non-reciprocal review rounds of ten authors with a variety of themes and genres, as well as ‘general’ rounds where any book is permitted, from non-fiction, to horror. When a round has ‘now forming’ in the title, there are places available, you can sign up. If it doesn’t, it’s full – look for another round.

The new amazon rules state that authors are no longer allowed to specifically supply books in return for reviews on amazon. In order to comply with this new rule, we no longer insist members review on amazon. However, we are all in the same situation, we want reviews.
It is up to me who does and does not gain a place in each group. I will prioritise those members who have fully participated in previous groups.

This is an 18+ round. Books that contain explicit material. Including but by no means limited to horror and erotica. Books in other genres may be submitted. All authors MUST be comfortable with reading explicit material.

If you are only willing to read your own preferred genre, make sure you join a genre round. Allocation is entirely random and there will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate personal preference.
Let’s be honest here – we don’t all like the same things but we all want reviews. The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Now for the boring stuff, but please read it, it saves a lot of time if everyone is on the same wavelength.
Before signing up below with your goodreads author and goodreads book link in the thread below, please ensure that:
1. You have enough time to read and review 4 books within the time allowed.

2. Your book is currently available for sale on amazon (not pre-order) and it complies with the individual round theme, if there is one.

3. Your book is fit to be reviewed. If it is not, due to editing or other issues, you risk poor reviews.

4. You can submit reviews to goodreads, amazon.com and amazon.uk. Amazon has recently changed their criteria for reviewers to allow only those people who have spent $50 on amazon. If you are unsure about your amazon reviewer status, try posting a ‘test’ review before signing up.

5. You can provide (and accept) at least PDF files. Many authors can also provide mobi and epub files. You are not expected or required to buy the books you are allocated to read. Some authors borrow books via KU and others provide smashwords coupons or gift copies. This is their choice; you do not have to accept or provide a gift. International Copyright laws apply. You cannot sell, or give away material you have received without the author’s express permission.

6. You have completed all your obligations if you are currently in another round in this group. You can be involved in the ‘one for one’ list whilst you are in a review round.

7. You have an author profile set up before you join.

8. Your goodreads profile allows people to message you, i.e. your profile is not set to private.

9. You declare any relationship you have with another member in the round. Amazon will not allow reviews from the same household on the same book or if you are an editor, relative or close friend of another member.

10. Your reviews will be honest and reflect your opinion whether positive, neutral or negative. All star ratings are appropriate but try to avoid ‘spoilers’.

11. You will not ask a fellow author to change a published review simply because you don’t agree with it. If you think you have a legitimate concern, talk to the mod of your round, NOT the other author. Personal attacks, or pressurising other members WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

12. The new amazon review guidelines do not allow for books to be supplied in return for reviews. Therefore, you are not obliged to put reviews on amazon, just on goodreads. However, I hope you will enter into the spirit of the group and post on as many amazons as possible, with .com and .uk being the two largest markets.
Behaving inappropriately will result you being blacklisted from the group.

13. Your goodreads details and the rounds you participate in will be recorded by the admin mod on a database. We do not retain details of email addresses etc.

The founding principle of the group is honest non-reciprocal reviews, so please help maintain the integrity of the group by letting me know as you sign up if you have been reviewed by, or have reviewed another author in the group. Usually places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
However, I have final say as to who does and does not get accepted into any group. I will give priority to members of good standing (those who have fully participated in previous groups) and new members. Occasionally, particularly in the case of our more prolific members, I may have to decline a 'good-standing' member’s request in order to fit the maximum number of people into a particular round.
It is permissible to review an author more than once if a different book is available.

If you need anything clarified please ask, either by goodreads personal message to me or on the thread below, before signing up. It’s a pain to have to keep rearranging the list because people haven’t read the above.

Thank you.

https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

I have reviewed T.S. before but it was for Mudd's Luck

J.B. Trepagnier (jbtrepagnier) T.S has review me before, but a different novel

message 8: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Welcome aboard Daniel, I'll add you now. When we have ten authors, I'll set up the list of who is reviewing who.
In future, please state if you have any review connections with other members of the group. We deal in non-reciprocal reviews here and T.S. has already reviewed your book so I can't allocate you to review him, and he can't review you.

message 13: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Humphreys | 16 comments Oh, sure, I wasn't clear enough. My apologies.

message 14: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Don't worry about it, I enjoy slapping the odd wrist, makes me feel all important LOL!

message 15: by Garfield (new)

Garfield Whyte (garfieldwhyte) Hi Emma....is this group full now?

message 16: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments if you look at the sign up list, you'll see that there are spaces in the list, so nope it isn't full yet.
But... consider yourself chased back to 116 with a broom. Only one round at a time.

message 17: by Andrew (last edited Oct 04, 2016 12:05PM) (new)

Andrew Thomas Can I join this next round? I have a sci-fi time travel, but with some sex & bad language in it... is this group appropriate? Apologies in advance, as I'm just a newbie.

message 18: by Emma (last edited Oct 04, 2016 12:48PM) (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments This group is more about what you are comfortable reading than the actual content of your book. I started the 18+ group back when we only had 'general' groups and writers of horror and erotic content were receiving unhelpful low star reviews from people who objected to the content, even if the books were excellent examples of their genre and well written.
Giving an erotica book one star because the main characters aren't married, or because someone is killed in a gruesome way in a horror, isn't helpful.
I try and put myself in the frame of mind of a person who might have chosen to read a book from the cover and blurb. And ask myself, 'Does the book fulfil its premise?'

So, if you think you can assess the work of the other authors in the group without prejudice, welcome aboard, or join 119 an 'out of this world' round.
Let me know what you prefer.

message 19: by Andrew (last edited Oct 04, 2016 12:56PM) (new)

Andrew Thomas Gotcha! Yup, perfectly fine reading another authors 18+ material without prejudice. Could you include me in the group? And thanks for the help!

message 23: by Emma (last edited Oct 04, 2016 01:04PM) (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Shout when you're done Garfield and I'll sign you up.

I'll add you now Andrew, but the profile you are writing from, isn't the one attached to your book. Its going to make it tricky for people to get in touch with you. Contact goodreads and see if they can 'merge' the profiles.

message 24: by T.S. (new)

T.S. O'Neil (tsoneil) | 177 comments I served as a beta reader for Daniel Humphreys and furnished a review, so I can't review him again.

message 25: by Daniel (last edited Oct 04, 2016 01:18PM) (new)

Daniel Humphreys | 16 comments Emma, Tom pointed out that I accidentally joined the wrong group, 119 is probably more appropriate for the genre, I guess. I'm still feeling out the search function on here.

Edit - found it. I will join the other group if you could pull me out of this one. Thanks!

message 26: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments will do.

message 27: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Thomas Sorted Emma, my profile is this:

https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

message 28: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments the link isn't searchable for some reason on the 'add book/author' function so I've added the link you left to the sign up message.
I'll check again as the group fills up, sometimes it takes a while for goodreads to catch up.

Garfield Whyte (garfieldwhyte) Can I be considered with this one?

message 34: by Neil (new)

Neil Carstairs | 662 comments Hi Garfield, you put a request into 117 Romance for the same book. Let me know which group you would want to be a part of as it's one round at a time.

Garfield Whyte (garfieldwhyte) Neil wrote: "Hi Garfield, you put a request into 117 Romance for the same book. Let me know which group you would want to be a part of as it's one round at a time."

I didnt get a reply from 117 so thats why I put it here too

message 36: by Neil (new)

Neil Carstairs | 662 comments Only Emma has the access to update the list at the top of the thread so we're waiting until she's back to add the names. You can stay in this one or over in Romance, when the list is updated it will be on a first come first served basis so you will not miss out whichever one you choose as you have your name down in plenty of time for either.

message 44: by Adelise (new)

Adelise (AMCullens) | 29 comments I have reviewed other books by JB and Robert, not the ones they have in this round. And TS has already read/reviewed my book.

message 48: by Lillian (new)

Lillian Lee (lillian_lee) | 32 comments If the spot is still free, I would like to join. My book will be published on Monday first thing in the morning.

message 49: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Hi Lillian,
we usually insist a book is published before inclusion in a group, but as your publication date is so close I'm sure we could leave the official start date till monday to accomodate you, however, in order to join you need to provide A goodreads author link and a goodreads book link. Both can be set up before you publish on amazon.
Post the links ASAP and we can get this group going on Monday.

Stjepan Cobets | 347 comments If possible, I would like to join with my science fiction book of Godeena, although not thoroughly proofread. I just want to hear the opinion of the reader.
I finished the book reviews of the group 116.
