Emma Jaye | 3693 comments The review group is the most successful group for peer reviews on goodreads. It hosts non-reciprocal review rounds of ten authors with a variety of themes and genres, as well as ‘general’ rounds where any book is permitted, from non-fiction, to horror. When a round has ‘now forming’ in the title, there are places available, you can sign up. If it doesn’t, it's full – look for another round.

This round is for adult fiction books classified as scifi, fantasy, dystopian and paranormal/supernatural on amazon are allowed.

If you are only willing to review your own preferred genre, don't join. Allocation is entirely random and there will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate personal preference. The ONLY circumstance in which you may duck out of giving a review is if YOU provide a stand-in reviewer.
Let’s be honest here – we don’t all like the same things but we all want reviews. The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Now for the boring stuff, but please read it, it saves a lot of time if everyone is on the same wavelength.

Before signing up below with your goodreads author and goodreads book link in the thread below, please ensure that:

1. You have enough time to read and review 4 books within the time allowed.

2. Your book is currently available for sale on amazon (not pre-0rder) and it complies with the individual round theme, if there is one.

3. Your book is fit to be reviewed. If it is not, due to editing or other issues, you risk poor reviews.

4. You can submit reviews to goodreads, amazon.com and amazon.uk. Amazon has recently changed their criteria for reviewers to allow only those people who have spent $50 on amazon. If you are unsure about your amazon reviewer status, try posting a ‘test’ review before signing up.

5. You can provide (and accept) at least PDF files. Many authors can also provide mobi and epub files. You are not expected or required to buy the books you are allocated to review. Some authors borrow books via KU and others provide smashwords coupons or gift copies. This is their choice; you do not have to accept or provide a gift. International Copyright laws apply. You cannot sell, or give away material you have received for review without the author’s express permission.

6. It is up to individual reviewers to comply with guidelines about disclaimers concerning receiving a book in exchange for a review. International laws differ, we are not the review police but this group does not contravene goodreads rules.

7. You have completed all your reviews if you are currently in another review round in this group. You can be involved in the ‘one for one’ list whilst you are in a review round.

8. You have an author profile set up before you join.

9. Your goodreads profile allows people to message you, i.e. your profile is not set to private.

10. You declare any relationship you have with another member in the round. Amazon will not allow reviews from the same household on the same book or if you are an editor, relative or close friend of another member.

11. You agree to post honest reviews of the books you are allocated, whatever the star rating and try to avoid ‘spoilers’.

12. You will not ask a fellow author to change a review simply because you don’t agree with it. If you think you have a legitimate concern, talk to the mod of your round, NOT the other author. Personal attacks, or pressurising other members WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

13. Not fulfilling your obligations to fellow group members or behaving inappropriately, will result you being blacklisted from the group and other members who have reviewed you will asked to remove their review of your book.

14. Your goodreads details and the rounds you participate in will be recorded by the admin mod on a database. We do not retain details of email addresses etc.

The founding principle of the group is honest non-reciprocal reviews, so please help maintain the integrity of the group by letting me know as you sign up if you have been reviewed by, or have reviewed another author in the group. Usually places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
I will do my best to fit everyone into the group they request, but occasionally, particularly in the case of our more prolific members I may have to decline a member’s request in order to fit the maximum number of people into a particular round.
It is permissible to review an author more than once if a different book is available.

If you need anything clarified please ask, either by goodreads personal message to me or on the thread below, before signing up. It’s a pain to have to keep rearranging the list because people haven’t read the above.

Your group moderator will be
Warren Dean

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Hi Eric, can you read the sign up message carefully and post your goodreads links as requested when you're happy you can fulfil all the requirements?

message 5: by E.M. (new)

E.M. Swift-Hook | 3487 comments BTW, Emma, I have read and reviewed Eric's book already, if that makes any difference to placings in the group.

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments It makes all the difference E.M. thank you.

Darrell Nelson | 360 comments Hey Emma,
Like always I have to be a problem child.
I've got a new book coming out, but I don't know if I can publish it in time for this group. I'd like to put my book Mind Thief in for another round, unless my new book "The Genocide Game" is published before the group starts. If I can get it published before the group starts, I'd like to swap.
No matter what I can have a book ready for review.

message 10: by Darrell (new)

Darrell Nelson | 360 comments BTW, EM has reviewed my book "Dymon's Lair" but not either of the books I'm putting forward for this round.
Hopefully that makes it easy.

message 11: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments works for me Darrell. I'll add Mind thief for you. Let me know if and when you want me to swap it for your new one.

I have also reviewed E.J Bennett - sorry to add to the complexity Emma - but if it makes things any easier Florian could always review another of my books...

Heather Hayden I'd like to join in this round.

My novel's YA scifi--we previously discussed it in PM and you said it would suit this kind of a round. Thanks! :)

You reviewed Star Bridge - book 1 of the Chatterre Trilogy - Thunder Moon is book 2 ... they can each stand along.

Melonie Purcell | 69 comments I'm excited! I would love to participate with Shield of Drani

Shield of Drani
https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

I have not reviewed any books listed so far and nobody listed has reviewed me, but I have reviewed a couple of unlisted books over on the one for one review site here on Goodreads. This will be my first review round.

Hope that answers all of the questions.

message 25: by E.M. (new)

E.M. Swift-Hook | 3487 comments Jeanne wrote: "You reviewed Star Bridge - book 1 of the Chatterre Trilogy - Thunder Moon is book 2 ... they can each stand along."

Indeed so :)

And to make Emma's eventual task a bit easier I shall sum up how I stand vis-à-vis the others in this group I have encountered before - here or elsewhere...

I have reviewed:

Eric
Darrell
EJ Bennett
Jeanne

and been reviewed by:

Florian (but he could review the next book of my trilogy)

I will update this catalogue of sins if needed - and if all this makes it too complex and you can't work me in to the mix, please let me know and I will drop rather than give you headaches..

message 26: by Emma (last edited Oct 01, 2016 08:31AM) (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments I think I've everyone situated so we have non-reciprocal reviews, but hopefully no one else wants to sign up will have connections with EM!
If everyone can do a quick check, the four people 'above' your name, will review you. You will review the four 'below' you.
In one or two instances, due to previous reviewing, an author will have to provide a different book to the one they have submitted.

message 27: by Melonie (new)

Melonie Purcell | 69 comments I didn't see Shield of Drani. Was I too late signing up?

message 28: by Jeanne (new)

Jeanne Foguth (jeannefoguth) | 44 comments I suspect you have already reviewed the list from Group 111.... I also try not to assume,
E.M. Swift-Hook, Chrys Cymri, Joshua C Cook and Kristy Cooper reviewed/or will review Star Bridge.
I reviewed: The Reaper Realm by Lentz, Genesis, the Battle Within by Tucker, Fear's Union by Hockley and The Infinity Bloom by Espano.

message 29: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Sorry Jeanine, I don't have a cast iron memory for who has reviewed whom and what books, and who has written which book. There are 2,500 members in this group, many with multiple titles and there have been over 130 groups.
if you have a clash with another author in this round please state it, not just give a list and expect me to do the thinking for you and everyone else.
I'm setting up 5 groups at the moment, so am dealing with 50 people and their multiple review clashes.
So I'd appreciate a little help by having individuals look at the list they are signing up to and the reviews THEY have done and received on their own books.

If anyone else wants this unpaid job. Feel free. (picture me grumbling off to get some more painkillers).

message 30: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Melonie, I posted that message when I was updating the list, It took quite some time due to the multiple clashes, during when you posted your message, I'll gladly add you now.
Just please don't say you've reviewed or been reviewed by EM!

message 31: by E.M. (last edited Oct 01, 2016 09:22AM) (new)

E.M. Swift-Hook | 3487 comments Emma wrote: "Just please don't say you've reviewed or been reviewed by EM! "

I can vouch that I am innocent of this particular charge - even if guilty on most other counts ;)

I can also vouch I am fine to be reviewed by those 'above' me and can find something to review from those 'below' me so far!

Can I also just say you do a truly awesome job here, Emma and I hope you are feeling much better soon.

Me and E.M. - we're good. Right E.M.? And thanks Emma. This can't be easy.

message 33: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Sorry for the rant folks, I'm still on some heavy painkillers from my surgery last week and setting up groups is proving a bit more of a brain strain than I thought it would be. Although as I'm pretty immobile its giving me something to do. Being 'creative' isn't happening right now!
Fingers crossed we'll get this one up and running sooner rather than later so I can pass it on to another one of our wonderful mods.

message 34: by Darrell (new)

Darrell Nelson | 360 comments I try and make it easy on you by having a lot of books. E.M. and Florian have reviewed other books of mine, but not the two I'm entering in this round.
If I run into the situation where someone has reviewed all 15 of mine, I'll know I'm not writing fast enough.

I am glad I didn't assume!
Hope your hand fully heals, soon and/or at least the pain will reduce.

message 36: by Melonie (new)

Melonie Purcell | 69 comments I can't wait. And my book is free on Amazon right now, so a reviewer can get a legit ebook version if he/she wants to. I know I prefer the ebook over the PDF if I can get it. Just easier to read.

Can someone who has done this before tell me how we know which books we are reading?

message 37: by Dan (new)

Dan Gillis | 59 comments In these review rounds, the four people above you will review your book.

You review the four authors below your name. I am excited for this round, almost set and ready to go!

message 38: by Melonie (new)

Melonie Purcell | 69 comments Thanks, Dan

message 39: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments When we have all ten members, I'll post a list of who is reviewing who, together with the timings for the various rounds. Then the mod who is looking after the round will take over.
Authors are responsible for getting their book to the reviewers, but most people are happy to download free copies from amazon and some (like me) have a KU account so they download books that way.

Thanks for the well wishes for my hand Jeanine but there's nothing wrong with that. However, the 20 cm long scar in my tummy is a bit of a problem.

Sorry for my confusion, Emma ... I recalled someone that I had either read or been reviewed by as recovering from surgery after getting their finger reattached.

Leo McBride (leomcbride) | 115 comments I'd love to feature with an alternative history short story collection, Tales From Alternate Earths.

I've previously reviewed The Other Side, by Florian Armas, in a previous group, and been reviewed by E.M. Swift-Hook and Darrell Nelson. I've also independently reviewed Stormhaven Rising just last week :)

If you could squeeze me in, I'd love ya forever ;)

You are trying to get me into trouble here - I just know it ;)

As long as you don't mind if I review one of the two anthologies of yours I have yet to review instead of that one, looking at the set up, it could just work - if Florian swaps with Dan, Leo goes in at 4, Jeanne up to 3 and Eric down to 5... but I might have missed a cross-match... It's like doing a Rubiks cube!

My respect for Emma handling these things is immense!

I can start up anther 'out of this world' in a week or so as they seem to be very popular

I'll set up the order and get this one going later today.

Please remember the commitment you are making to your fellow group members. If you pull out after the start date for any reason it is the other members who will be faced with the problem of finding a replacement, or missing out on reviews, through no fault of their own. Please don’t ask the moderators to chase after replacements as we just don’t have the time.

It is the responsibility of the author to get their book to their reviewer in a format the reviewer can manage. Everyone must be able to provide and accept PDF. There are no set dates for the start of each round. You can each work at your own pace, within the limits of the round deadlines.

When you have posted your reviews, please post the three links to your reviews, not the book page in this thread.

All reviews must be posted to GR, Amazon .com and Amazon.co.uk.

Postings to any other sites are by agreement by both author and reviewer.

If I’ve missed something that results in you being asked to review someone who has already reviewed you, please let me know asap.

To exchange book files, my advice is to use PM to give email addresses to each other (save the chance of spammers getting your addies from this open forum). Happy reviewing, everyone :)

To those who have me, mine is free until tomorrow. It's also on KU. Or I can send you the PDF. Whatever makes you the happiest. I want my reviewers happy. Let me know where to send the beer. (kidding...well...no...yeah...just kidding)
