Is this the first Brandon Sanderson book you've read? If so, you're in for a real treat, if you intend to keep reading. All of his major fantasy books take place in the same galaxy. There aren't a whole lot of connections between the books at first, but slowly, things are starting to come together.
Remember when Sarene is talking to that beggar, Hoid, about getting supplies into Elantris? Well, Hoid isn't really a beggar. He's in all of the books, sometimes just showing up in a scene and sometimes doing more important things.
You can read The Emperor's Soul next, if you want (it doesn't really matter when you read that, chronologically). It's also on Sel (the planet where Elantris takes place), but it's in a totally different place. It introduces two other magic systems that have some similarity to the ones in Elantris but are really totally different. Also, you should look into the first Mistborn trilogy. That's the next thing to read.
