If you haven't read the Dark Tower series you are missing out on an fantastic series of books. So far found the first book the best, but I have only just started book 3.

Well I was planning to read it sometime this year... possibly next month.

Oops... sorry I didn't respond. I tend to reply mentally and then forget to do it physically.

Grimalkin is awesome! Because, "he is a cat"... :D
Puck is also one of my favourites... Ash is in there too, but Puck comes first. (I can't decide which I like best, so Puck and Grimalkin are both at #1)

message 107: by Bibliogothica (new)

Bibliogothica I am currently reading two books at the moment.

#1) Magician's Gambit by David Eddings
#2) Morning Star by Pierce Brown

Thoroughly enjoying both at the moment! :D

How are you liking Morning Star? I have yet to start the Red Rising series. Haha

message 109: by Bec (new)

Bec (_becandbooks) Hey everyone! It's been a while since I checked in here.

At the moment I am reading:

Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2) by Cassandra Clare (buddy read)
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell (started a few pages last night)
Snow Like Ashes (Snow Like Ashes, #1) by Sara Raasch (audio, it's okay but nothing is blowing me away)

I think I'm going to DNF Heartless, the characters are well written but honestly Meyer's writing just bores me.

I feel like I've read some mediocre books lately so I'm being hopeful about the next few I'm looking to pick up:

The Witch Doesn't Burn in this One (Women are Some Kind of Magic, #2) by Amanda Lovelace 806 by Cynthia Weil Children of Blood and Bone (Legacy of Orïsha, #1) by Tomi Adeyemi Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore Gemina (The Illuminae Files, #2) by Amie Kaufman

@Becca I’m hoping to start Snow Like Ashes sometime in the next two weeks. I actually DNF’d Heartless when I read it, but picked it up again nearly a year later. The first two thirds of it bore me, but I liked the last third of it.

message 111: by Bibliogothica (new)

Bibliogothica Kelly wrote: "How are you liking Morning Star? I have yet to start the Red Rising series. Haha"

So far it's pretty good... I must say that the second and third book are much better than the first.
While reading the first book, I didn't really feel a connection to the characters, but when I got further in to book 2 I felt more attached to them. (I know, I'm a weirdo ;p)
The third book is giving me some really weird emotions though, because like sometimes I'll feel happy, angry, and sad all at the same time.

All in all, they're worth trying. :D

message 112: by Bec (new)

Bec (_becandbooks) @Biblio: I've seen so many mixed reviews about the Red Rising series that I've never been sure whether to pick them up. But I might try the first book and see. I'm all for rollercoaster emotions in books :)

@Kelly: I would love to hear what you think of Snow Like Ashes - I finished it yesterday and have to rate/review but I foudn it pretty meh tbh. I didn't like any of the characters and the story was fairly cliche in my mind. It's one of the few times I've had trouble staying focused to an audio.

I ended up DNFing Heartless as well, Meyer's writing just doesn't do anything for me sadly.

message 113: by Chloe (new)

Chloe Christine I am currently rereading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.

Bec (_becandbooks) Chloe wrote: "I am currently rereading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell."

Oh I really want to pick up Fangirl because I just finished Carry On and found out after that it's based off a fictional character in Fangirl!

message 115: by Bec (new)

Bec (_becandbooks) Hey everyone! I've been super busy with books because I am in the middle of ReadORama readathon!

So far for the readathon I have finished:
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell The Witch Doesn't Burn in this One (Women are Some Kind of Magic, #2) by Amanda Lovelace 806 by Cynthia Weil

I am currently reading:
Of Fire and Stars (Of Fire and Stars, #1) by Audrey Coulthurst Written on the Body Letters from Trans and Non-Binary Survivors of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence by Lexie Bean

And currently listening to:
Horizon (Horizon, #1) by Scott Westerfeld

Next up:
My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix Gemina (The Illuminae Files, #2) by Amie Kaufman

message 116: by Yash (new)

Yash (bibliogothsh) | 1 comments Hello Friends,
I've just finished reading 'Twenty Love Poems and A Songs of Despair' by Pablo Neruda and I loved that book!
I've recorded an audiobook without noise filters in natural circumstances so as to be felt as forthcoming from a broken heart. Just for retrospection.
Here's the Google Drive Link
Feedbacks are most welcome!

Good Day,
Yash

Forgotten Truth (Truth, #3) by Dawn Cook

message 120: by Bec (new)

Bec (_becandbooks) @Kelly what did you think about The Cruel Prince? I would love to hear your thoughts on American Panda as well!

@Booksandcaffeine I've seen a lot of people talking about that series since the sequel came out, although I haven't picked it up

message 121: by Jess (new)

Jess (bookraider) | 3 comments Does anyone know any good mermaid reads? I've been dying to find one for so long! I feel like they're so under appreciated in literature.

message 122: by Bec (new)

Bec (_becandbooks) My absolute favourite is The Mermaid's Daughter. It's a sapphic retelling of The Little Mermaid and I am IN LOVE with it!

Indigo Blue is another one that I enjoyed, although the writing is very simple.

message 123: by Bec (new)

Bec (_becandbooks) Currently reading:

Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore (because it's been on my shelf WAY too long, btw it's gorgeous!)

Ignited (Dance of the Elements, #1) by A.M. Deese (one of my overwhelming pile of ARCs at the moment, but I am REALLY loving it)

Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld (because I've run out of Overdrive audiobooks that interest me so I'm revisiting some old favourites)

@Becca I wasn't blown away by The Cruel Prince, but still enjoyed it quite a bit. The world building was fantastic, but I wasn't a huge fan of the romance.

Also, I really need to read the Uglies at some point!

I believe The Cruel Prince is supposed to be a trilogy, but I’m not 100% sure. The second book is confirmed though. :)

message 127: by Bec (new)

Bec (_becandbooks) @Kelly: This was exactly my reaction to The Cruel Prince tbh.

Uglies was my childhood dystopian queen haha. It's just so CLASSIC YA DYSTOPIAN but also tackles body image and human presentation which I love.

@Booksandcaffeine: Yeah it came out not too long ago this year if I'm correct. Great news for you because have the chance to dive right into it if you like the first book!

DO IT!

Somehow I'm only reading one book at the moment?! Also it's a book I've been reading now for WEEKS because I just feel like I need to be in a mood for it?

Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore : it's honestly gorgeous AS though and full of girls who love girls which honestly just melts my heart.

Tyler Johnson Was Here by Jay Coles : I just got my hold for the audio of this gem on Overdrive and I'm super keen to get into it!

Black Chuck by Regan McDonell : I think this is going to be the next ARC that I pick up (maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow). I think putting too much pressure on myself was the cause of my recent slump so to hell with pub dates. I'm reading what I feel like until I catch up on the ARCs already on my shelf and then I'll decide what my new course of action is.

message 131: by Nikita (new)

Nikita I've read Soldier (Talon, #3) by Julie Kagawa Legion (Talon, #4) by Julie Kagawa and The Last Jedi (Star Wars Novelizations #8) by Jason Fry

Now I'm currently reading The Assassin's Blade (Throne of Glass, #0.1-0.5) by Sarah J. Maas

message 132: by Bec (new)

Bec (_becandbooks) @Nikita: I haven't read any of these! Would you rec the Talon series? It must be pretty good if you've finished book 4.

I actually love multiple POV books, I feel like if it's done right it can expand the world-building and build the overall story so much!

I've got so many series that I want to finish off before I start any completed/nearly completed series but I think I will eventually check this one out.

Bec (_becandbooks) Hey everyone, how is life treating y'all?

Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust I have nearly finished GMOS&G. While I am enjoying it the pacing is just too slow for me, although the second half is proving to have much better pacing than the first.

This Savage Song (Monsters of Verity, #1) by Victoria Schwab I started this one a while ago, but put it aside when I did the Buzzword Readathon (books with the buzzword GIRL in the title). During that time, my library book became due, I couldn't renew it because it was on hold, and so I saved my page and found the ebook through Scribd. And now I just haven't got back to it yet.

The Beauty That Remains by Ashley Woodfolk This is going to be my next audiobook (after I catch up on all my podcasts). Despite it being ANOTHER YA contemporary surrounding a tragic death, I've seen some really great reviews for it.

Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2) by Cassandra Clare I am about to return to the Shadowhunter Chronicles after my group/buddy read was put on hold because life got in everyone's way.

Nikita I've read Inferno (Talon, #5) by Julie Kagawa Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass, #2) by Sarah J. Maas A Court of Frost and Starlight (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3.1) by Sarah J. Maas

And now I'm reading Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass, #3) by Sarah J. Maas

message 140: by Bec (new)

I love her books! One of my top favorites is the Throne of Glass series. I'm actually re-reading the series for the second time so I'm all prepared for Kingdom of Ash, the final book coming out in October. You should read, they are so amazing. You are welcome to my reviews on the books on both Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns & Roses for additional info.
