Agreed. She hadn't known that she could really hurt him that way. She's still learning how to navigate feelings and relationships in general anyway. I'm glad he could be open and just tell her.

Yes, I'm glad that they communicate and don't let their angst fester for too long. That would become very old, very quick!

I agree. Roarke & Eve seem to handle things between them pretty quickly and that's a plus to me. I like that they are feeling & finding their way with each other - still making discoveries about each other & learning to give the other what they need. I love that any "disagreements" doesn't become the main focus of an entire book in this series as often occurs in other series.

Kirsten (kmcripn) Robb is very good at showing a natural evolution to their relationship. In the first few books, they did have misunderstanding and we did focus on how they resolved them. In some ways, I miss that.

But the farther we go throw the series, we see how Eve & Roarke have evolved as a couple. That "marriage book" of Eve's gets more and more rules.

Maybe that's why she injects more into the supporting cast, because she doesn't give us as much angst with Eve & Roarke. Plus, I have to keep reminding myself they've only been together for a couple years in the books.

Michelle | 2659 comments So right Kirsten. From the time they met to the time the married was a few weeks. And now being married only a couple of years?!

Karen (rhyta) | 184 comments Just finished tonight and really enjoyed the suspense. I had forgotten how intense the action was. It was good to see Roarke tell Eve that she can hurt him, she in turn is showing her vulnerability saying I just don't know how to do this...baby steps.

One little detail I noticed this time, since I am a big hockey fan; Robb didn't do her homework and confused hockey with football. There aren't guards and linebackers on a hockey team LOL try defensemen and wingers... We know how good Robb is at her details but this little one tickled me.

I also agree how insightful Robb is with the terrorism and people wanting to overthrow the government...too close to the present.

Nice insight, Karen! I really liked the Roarke/Eve dynamics in Loyalty - and as you mentioned - the fact that he lets her know that she can hurt him...she holds that power as she holds his heart.

I've never had any issue with Roarke taking care of Eve...yes, he goes a little overboard at times...maybe - but I keep in mind that he's new at this "serious" relationship thing - this marriage thing - just as Eve is. He's been with other women, but not in this way. I think he loves Eve so deeply, so completely, with everything he is that it actually makes him vulnerable. And I think the thought of losing her - in any way, shape, or manner - scares him to death. And so...he will do anything to keep her safe. I also think it keeps their relationship & character development interesting & evolving in these books. Keeps the sparks flying between them from time to time as they continue to work through this thing called Marriage. It wouldn't be as much fun to read if it was all smooth sailing - boring! lol

Sandra, I love everything you've written here! Beautifully stated and I completely agree!!

Belles | 156 comments I just finished the book and I have to blurt out "FINALLY!!" about Peabody and McNab! I was starting to get annoyed that this has been hanging out there for several books. I love the way it happened: denial, denial, denial, denial, POW!

Zeke was a bit too country bumpkin for me. Falling in love with Clarissa after only minimal contact? Believing everything Clarissa ever said? I don't know. He was gullible to the point of unbelievability for me.

Interesting that we got to see a glimpse of Eve's mom from a memory that was unlocked. I wish we could have explored that more in this book, but I'm sure more is coming in future books.

This is the first book I'm giving four stars to instead of five. I enjoyed it, but just not as much as the others in the series so far. I can't quite put my finger on what was lacking for me, but I think it was something missing between Eve and Roarke.

Yes, he was a little too good, innocent and naive to be true.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments I'm now listening to this one and I'm sitting here at my desk cracking up because McNab and Peabody just had their first kiss...I love when she said "what the hell was that?" I love these two.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 789 comments I just finished this one. When Zeke was so in love with Clarissa almost right from the beginning, I guess I found that a little bit hard to accept. Mostly because I just had this uneasy feeling about her. Nothing I can put my finger on but she seemed a bit strange. I loved this one and I especially loved the McNab/Peabody scenes. They were priceless. And when Roarke was working on disarming the bomb, and Eve was so worried she would lose him. So much so that she actually tells him she loves him. She's really starting to verbalize her feelings to him. It brought tears to my eyes. I think I've either teared up or cried while listening to every book so far...

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1132 comments I am a few books behind the group, but I enjoy reading the comments and the questions. This is my favorite book so far. I think it is the fast pace of the plot and maybe knowing that this could happen in any city at any time gave a real sense of believable to me. Eve didn't fight Roarke as much about being involved. She is coming to accept his help, she still doesn't like it, but she takes it.

Michelle | 2659 comments Anita I think that is one of Robb's brilliance. No matter when you read it , be it when this was first publish or presently , there is the scary reality that it is still a current concern. And yet this is suppose to be futuristic in its setting anyway.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 603 comments This is one of my favourites so far, I'm up to about book 20.

The scenes in the elevator with Peabody and McNab were priceless.

Martha DeSabia (marthamary) | 776 comments I know I am way behind you guys in my re read of the early books! I just finished the reread of this one with the e-book & audiobook. I discovered that at the end when Eve sends out everyone to check out the possible targets in the printed version it says that there are 3 possible- the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty and the Twin Towers. In the audio it says 2 possible and the Twin Towers are not mentioned! The book must have already been in print but they must have been able to edit the audio before releasing it.

Michelle | 2659 comments That's interesting. And yes first publication was pre-2000.

It's quite possible that they went back and edited the downloadable edition of the audiobook.
