Jane | 2247 comments Last night, Ruth, Sherry, Mary Anne and Vic, and I had dinner at Kous Kous. The food was delicious and the company was even better.

This morning we met at the downtown library for a tour. We loved the children's section on the 1st floor. It has Seuss murals painted on the walls. Then we took the elevator to the ninth floor and saw the wonderful view. The rare book room is also there, and I think we could have spent the rest of the day there. After that we worked our way down and saw the highlights on each floor. I was happy that Dottie joined our little group for the rest of the convention.

We had lunch at the Prado in Balboa Park and then we walked across the plaza to the San Diego Museum of Art. We spent about an hour and a half looking as various exhibits. In the German Expressionism section, we ran into a rare bird. It was a security guard who was quite friendly and who wasn't afraid to comment on the art that we were looking at.

We are meeting for dinner in about an hour. I will report more tomorrow!

Jane | 2247 comments I have been so busy that I haven't been able to post.

On Friday, Jean S. and her sister, Martha, joined us for dinner at the Red Door. I can highly recommend the lamb meatballs if you are ever in town.

On Saturday, we met at the zoo and Sherry, Mary Anne, Vic and I walked many miles through the zoo. Sherry took some fabulous animal shots that I am sure she will post. Ruth and Dottie took a tour on a large golf cart, so they probably learned more than we did. I have some photos also, but I seemed to get a lot of photos of animal butts! They like to turn their backs on us at the last moment! The SD zoo is such an amazing place. We had a relaxing lunch at Albert's in the zoo. Then after a quick walk to see the gorillas and the tigers, I headed home.

At about 3 pm, Dottie, Ruth, Sherry, Mary Anne and Vic came over and we had champagne, cheese and chocolates. Then we did our readings. It's always interesting to hear what everyone has chosen.

At 7 pm, we went to Coasterra, which is a gourmet Mexican restaurant that has the best view of San Diego bay. We had a good meal, but everyone was exhausted after a full day.

This morning, Ruth left to drive home, but Dottie, Sherry, Mary Anne, Vic and I walked over to Great Maple to have brunch. It fortified all of us to get one with our day. Sherry flew home and the others drove off to do other things.

It was a small group, but I really enjoyed seeing everyone.

Dottie (oxymoronid) | 1512 comments Every single restaurant was wonderful and varied. The library tour was absolutely amazing. The zoo is fabulous and I enjoyed revisiting two of my favorites -- the flamingos and giraffes and seeing the elephants and a lion or two though I didn't get to see my tortoises which only means I need to go back for a more extended visit before long. You have lovely home and are a great hostess -- and I loved the readings portion of this weekend -- why do we not do more reading aloud to one another as adults? Perhaps some of you do but I have not developed this in our lives and think I may begin working to correct that deficiency. Thank you for all the hard work you put into this event. Very nicely done.

Dottie (oxymoronid) | 1512 comments And I forgot to mention Balboa Park which is one of my favorite San Diego spots and the wonderful art museum which is one i had never made it to on previous visits. So much shared fun . And then all the undercurrent of books, titles, series, authors is just the icing on the whole experience.

Carol | 7657 comments Oh it sounds like it was a successful convention, even if it was small. Speaking of reading out loud my husband reads to me at night before I go to sleep. He started it when I had my surgery. Sometimes his reading choices are not interesting, but I don't complain.

Theresa | 786 comments Thanks for the convention report, sounds like you had a great time! Carol, that is so sweet that your husband reads you to sleep!

Sherry | 8261 comments It may take me a while to get the photos done, but I promise to do it. My flying day was exhausting. I didn't get home until about midnight. I always love the conventions, but we sure missed Allen this time (and all future times). Next year I will be the host, and it will be in Asheville, NC. I hope we can get more of you to attend.

That is really neat -- you are fortunate even if you may at times not be quite into the subject matter. Sound lovely.

Dottie (oxymoronid) | 1512 comments I wondered if your flight might be lengthy, Sherry. Looking forward to photos.

That's weird, I get them, but maybe that's because they're on my page. I'll see if somehow I made them only available to friends.

Sherry | 8261 comments I changed it them to public albums, Lynn, so you should get them now.
