It is starting to be a favourite of mine the older I get. I used to find it tedious when I was a live-in-the-moment young person, but now I am fascinated.
So on the Day, yesterday, Today Will Be Different by Maria Semple became released, two things occurred. One, I entered yet another giveaway.. Two, it immediately became available to me at the library. So this throws my October into even more of a tizzy. I will finish Three Sisters Three Queens by Lunch and start the Witches Market. Then there is A Gentleman From Moscow, and the Children Act, which I need to read for my psychoanalytic book club by 11/10. Now adding in the new Maria Semple book, as since it's so new, the library will only give me three weeks from quick pick up, instead of nine. Then, there is the Storm Sister, out from the library somewhere around 3 or 4 weeks of the 9. So we will see what this month brings... Can't wait to write and read reviews.
Hands down my favorite genre, but as Cindy noted we don't vote, so obviously a lot of other people like it too.
Loved the Storyteller. Just finished Small Great Things. Currently giving the Storyteller a run for its money as favorite Piccoult!
I am 2/3, maybe 3/4 of the way through The Sunne in Splendour. It's over 900 pages, so I plan to count it for October, even if I don't quite finish in time! Ive read almost 700 pages, so that should already count as 2 books!!

The Sunne in Splendor is a doorstop tome? It's been on my TBR! Maybe I save it for an upcoming doorstop tome challenge?
I thought I would complete The Lacuna but was wrong and so I have no historical fiction entry.Once again I am bailing on a Barbara Kingsolver book. This one is just to all over the place; from the character's childhood, to Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, to Lev Trovsky, back to the main character...not extremely boring, it just goes on and on and on.

I starte it many years ago but I was so confused - so many Margaret's, and John's that I just got lost. I think I read half of it and gave up.

In the end it will count as 3 books. Where I'm at now, probably 2. :-) I did get a little further this afternoon - I'm a little over 700 pages now.

Yup! And Edwards and Elizabeths... And many have a nickname and/or title, as well, so the same person could be known (and referred to) by multiple names!
It was either 1/3 or 1/2 way through that it finally picked up for me, Linda. It was pretty slow to get that far, but I did!
ETA: But it makes me feel better to not be loving the book, knowing, Linda, that you didn't finish, when there are many who did love it! So far, it's sitting at a 3.5 star for me (good). Even if the end picks up more (and I suspect it will), I'm not likely to increase that rating due to the start of the book.

I know it is with me. And with Linda. Of course, we don't vote. :-) Must be a favourite with many others!
