Jenny | 3 comments I'm not sure how old this book is or if it's even in a series but in short (these are definitely spoilers):

I think the protagonist is female
I know there is a prince or royal/important person
I know the prince/important man had magic
I know with that magic he brought his best friend back to life when they were children (no one knew this happened)
I know he "held on" unknowingly to that thread, wasting energy and magic to keep his friend alive.
I think the best friend had at one time been in love with the main character.
I think there may have been a love triangle between the protagonist, prince/important man, and best friend.
I know that the prince/important guy "let go" of the thread keeping his friend alive to use that magic elsewhere and the friend then died.
I think this friend was in the royal guard.

Please help.

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 215 comments Your description reminds me a bit of A Darker Shade of Magic. The protagonist was a female thief, the male character with the magic was also able to go through walls between the three existing worlds, and the one he saved with his magic was the prince. They may also have been brothers, but I'm not sure about that. I also do not remember the prince dying, so it may not be the book you are looking for, or I simply forgot about it.

I went and read the blurb of your suggestion. That's not the book I'm looking for, but I've added it to my "to-read" list! Cheers!

Crystal | 326 comments This sounds incredibly familiar and now I can't figure out which book it is either.

It actually reminds me a little of:
The Mirror King
