So first of all, did you guys think Ivy's new power was totally obvious? Because I guessed it on literally the first page when she said about Franklin Grove being allergic to the truth. Also I think the nine senses thing is really cool but being raised by a vampire, how come Ivy never knew about it? It seems like a pretty big aspect of your child's life that they should know about!
I'd say my main complaint about this book was that I felt like it had very little tension. Ivy's power was revealed really early on and any uncertainties around it were cleared up by Charles and Lillian like it was nothing. Then there was the Jackson storyline - but he was told about the secret really early on too and was totally fine with it! OK, so there was still the trials he had to do, but I don't think there was that much chance of that not working out. In a lot of the other MSTV books it's all leading up to a climax like 'How is this person going to react when this happens?' or 'When is this going to be revealed?' you know, and I felt like that one didn't really have that.
On a more positive note, I loved the callback to Revamped (MSTV #3) in the beginning with them going back to ASHH and seeing Frankie the bodyguard! I'd love to see more mentions of events from early in the series in future books - it's very nostalgic haha. Also that that thing where the Vamp Round Table could darken Jackson's heart was AWESOME in my opinion. I love how they just kept coming up with ways to make Jackson's trials harder - though that thing where only the person who wants to tell the secret can vouch for the person finding out was getting a little ridiculous!
Talking of ridiculousness, I really don't think it's very believable that the Vamp Round Table have been filming Olivia through EVERYTHING in the last 15 books. But if they really did, they are seriously paranoid!
What did you guys think of the cornfield scene? To be honest I found it pretty hard to get into because it just didn't feel very like MSTV to me. It was too much fantasy-adventure-y for me I guess and not enough modern paranormal mysteriousness... if that makes any sense. I was definitely on Jackson's side in his and Olivia's arguement too so I was kind of annoyed with Olivia in that part. I mean, poor Jackson was in the middle of facing all of his worst fears - you can't really blame him for getting a little tense with Olivia since she was the one who told them all his fears. I know she was tricked, but I felt like she was really playing the victim in that scene and I don't think that was fair given Jackson's situation.
And of course we MUST talk about the hinting in the interview at the end!! I am so freaking happy that the vampires are gonna find out about werewolves!! Could this mean another MSTV-MBTW crossover on the horizon? I really hope so!

I agree Ivy's power was quite obvious, though I didn't guess it first page. The extra sense thing does seem like something you should be brought up knowing rather than having it announced just when it starts happening to you.
I agree and disagree with you on that. I agree that the book did have little tension for most of it (apart from that weird cornfield scene and the overall 'will Jackson pass the tests' question) but I disagree that it was a bad thing. I found that in the earlier books a lot of the conflict was because Ivy/Olivia discovered something and than didn't tell the other for a while because that didn't know if it was actually happening or didn't want to make a big deal out of it. That's not the funnest thing to read because you're always trying to read forward/faster to the part when they're working it out together. This was much better to read, at least for me.
I was shocked how easily Jackson believed that vamps exist. Ok sure at first he thought it was a prank (which is realistic) but then once he got past that he believed it and was really chill about it. It would've been better if once he accepted it was the truth he asked at least some questions. I fail to believe that you could find out about vamps and then have no questions.
Ms Deborg is such an idiot! Plus the video of Olivia's life was SO creepy. The vampires went way too far with that one.
My favourite scene was the one in the cafeteria with Ivy, Brendan and the girls from the music class. I loved seeing more of Brendan and Ivy together and I found that scene quite funny. But can we just appreciate for a moment that this book had not one mention of Camilla. No one even said her name! I really missed Camilla in this book! It was good to see some more Sophia and I didn't know she could play the guitar, although do you think she might just have learned it just because she has a thing for AJ (like she tried to learn skate boarding because of Finn)?
The story line with the music teacher was really random. I guess it was just in there because of Ivy's power.
Ahhh the interview! I really hope it does turn into something. We need more MBTW and a crossover is my dream. :D

The recording thing was so strange!
Do you mean Jackson's situation? Olivia shouldn't have been mad at Jackson (she should be furious with the vampires though, haha!), he'd only recently found out vamps exist and then had to live all his worst fears.
Hmm I'm really not sure what I think about the vampire/werewolf community interactions. There's a quote from Fangtastic! (MSTV #2) about werewolves that Daisy commented on the thread here (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...) which makes it seem like Sophia and Ivy know about werewolves. We talked about it more in the Spooktacular thread (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...) where it seems they don't know about werewolves. I'm looking forward to seeing if any of the vampires know about werewolves, or vice versa.
We discussed something else interesting in the Spooktacular thread, when the book was set. Before or after Tail Spin. I don't have the 18th book on me right now so I don't remember exactly what they said in the interview but does that imply this one is set after Tail Spin because they talk about Pine Wood in it?
Do you think the cross-over (I'm just going with the fact that it will hopefully happen for a moment here) will happen in a My Sister the Vampire book or a My Brother the Werewolf book or do you think it will be spread over both so we can see both the werewolf and the vampire's reactions to it?

It's going to be interesting to see how the two series fit together if they start to interact more.
I really want to re-read all the books again! The characters have developed quite a lot, haven't they? Wow, I never really thought about that.
That's really interesting because I feel like the opposite. It makes more sense your way; to love them and then as you grow older to not feel as connected. When I first read MSTV I considered it a 'guilty pleasure', 'not very good but I love it', 'too young for me' etc. etc. Whereas now (all because of this group, I have to say!) it is one of my all-time favourite series. I am so invested in the books and they entice me more now than ever. I don't know if that has something to do with the fact when I was younger I always saw them as more Daisy's thing that I also liked and was slightly too old for and now I've grown out of that or something? Whatever it is I'm glad for it because these books bring me a lot of joy. Aww! ;)

On that subject I love your point, Kaushikee, about not being as enticed by the books anymore. I still get really invested when I reread the earlier books (which is weird because I know what's going to happen) but for some reason these later books don't really do it for me anymore. I agree with Sophie though, having this group has really helped keep my interest alive.
About the whole vampire/werewolf thing, I think some of each community probably know about eachother (possibly the Vamp Round Table?), though that thing about Ivy and Sophia seeming to know in Fangtastic then not later on I'm pretty sure is a mistake. It's worked out for the best though because now we get this whole finding out storyline!
I'm thinking the crossover will happen in the next MSTV since it was hinted in this series and it is kinda Sienna Mercer's main one. Plus the last crossover was in MBTW. The idea of having it from both perspectives sounds awesome but that doesn't seem very likely to me.
I definitely agree, Sophie, about Jackson's reaction. It was realistic that he didn't believe it at first but then he was just like, "Oh, Ivy has purple eyes, but she's nice, so vampires exist and I'm fine with that!" Like if you found out vamps exist, wouldn't you wonder if they really sleep in coffins and drink blood and stuff like Olivia did?!
I enjoyed that scene as well with Brendan in the diner. But I thought it was really badly set up the way the girls started confessing and how they just assumed Ivy could tell when people were lying just because she suggested the music teacher might not have been in a band. I mean that's a pretty obvious thing to suggest! But hey, it was humorous anyway.
Anyways this comment is way too long already - so much to talk about with this new book!! I'll stop for now though, haha.

Here's a quote from page 74:
"I'll explain everything later," Charles told her. "But remember: for now we must be silent on the subject!"
"I know, I know," she called back as she sped out into the front hallway. Icks-nay on the ampire-vay uff-stay when Jackson's around! She rolled her eyes. Did he really think she would forget after all this time?
So I was super confused by Ivy's thoughts here - is she speaking in some kind of weird detective code? If so what is she saying? (to give you a bit of context Charles and Ivy were just talking about Ivy's power to tell when people are lying, and how it might come in handy for an investigative reporter) This bit was just really weird to me!
Also can we talk about this quote (from page 75):
"I'm really sorry Jackson, but would it be OK if I talk to Olivia alone in my room for just a couple of minutes? I'm . . . uh . . . really upset. About . . ." Her [Ivy's] mind went blank. ". . . Something?"
Oh, yeah, real smooth, Ivy. Sooooo convincing.
Jackson's eyebrows shot up. "Of course." He hung his coat on the hook and stepped back. "I'll wait for you guys in the dining room. But Ivy . . ." He gave her a look of deep concern. "Whatever's going on with you and Brendan . . . I'm sure it'll be OK. You guys are really great together."
"Thanks." Ivy restrained herself from rolling her eyes as she tugged Olivia with her towards the stairs.
Why did boys always assume that boys were the only things that girls ever got upset about?
I'm so with Ivy on this one - just when I was growing to like Jackson again since him and Olivia got back together he says this! I don't really get why this was included. Anyway, this also got me thinking about Ivy and Brendan. It would be nice in a way to get a little more conflict in their relationship (aside from that dumb cheating storyline in Secrets and Spies {MSTV#15} I mean), since Brendan's not really been in it much recently and when he is his and Ivy's relationship is like totally perfect. Anyone have any ideas for possible storylines for them?

Having the crossover in both series would probably be quite confusing as well so I agree it's unlikely.
So I googled around a bit and I think I've worked out what's going on with Ivy's thoughts. I reckon she's speaking in Pig Latin. I'd never heard of this before but it seems to be a type of wordplay from the US used to create code. Here's a good description I found (http://www.worldwidewords.org/weirdwo...) :
The basic Pig Latin rules are simple, though there are dialectal variations: if a word starts with a vowel, then add ay to the end; otherwise move the first letter (or pair of letters if they represent one sound) to the end and add ay to it.
Icks-nay on the ampire-vay uff-stay when Jackson's around!
The page I linked above says Ixnay means nothing. If Icks-nay also means nothing the code would say, 'nothing on the vampire stuff when Jackson's around', which makes sense.
I googled again and I also found this... 'In North America, to nix something is to forbid or put an end to it.' and also from a different source 'Nix is a slang term that means, generally, don't do that.'
It's nix not nicks but it does fit in the context. I'm still confused but at least this clears it up a little bit. Have any you ever heard of Pig Latin?
Oh Jackson. Teenage girls have far more to worry about than just boy problems. When I read that it did make me laugh. What are Brendan's interests? Maybe he could need some help with a project he's working on and that could show us more about what he likes doing. I always liked seeing Camilla's films in progress.

Hm, Brendan's been mentioned to go to band practice and he rides his bike a lot. Plus he's said he's into science and I think also videogames. That's a great idea to incorporate his interests more into the series. Since the band in MBTW is pretty main it would be sort of repetitive to focus on that with Brendan. As a vampire I'm sure he's great at biking and if he's into science I doubt he struggles with it, so help with either of those probably isn't needed. So... maybe he could enter a videogaming competition or something? Kinda plucking at straws here, lol.

I'm sure there's a story line for Brendan involving his bike...not. Haha. It's hard to come up with stories for him involving the current things we know about him so I guess the thing to do is to come up with new interests for him and introduce them either as something he's been doing for a while or as something new he's started doing. That could be funny to read if he kept failing at a new hobby and he needed his friends help. A video-gaming competition would actually be really awesome seeing as Ivy likes video-gaming too.

I've been thinking more of his sister Bethany might be cool, since she hasn't been in it since book 5 I think...? Ooh, you know what could be interesting, if she got really ill and we could learn about vamp illnesses - they've gotta have some, right? On second thought this might be kinda dark - though I'm not suggesting Bethany would die or anything. I feel like Sienna Mercer's pretty good at dealing with darker stuff (like Ivy and Olivia's mum dying) meaningfully without it dragging down the entire book, so maybe this could work? I don't know, I'd just really like to see a new aspect of the vampire world and more with Brendan so this was the combination I came up with.... insight into the darkness of Daisy's mind I guess...

As for hobbies for Brendan, I'll have a think.
