Some people also planned to read Much Ado About Nothing this month. Here is that discussion thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Met too! I have my copy and probably will start it around mid November as well.

Pink | 5491 comments Great!

Sarah | 468 comments I am failing at The Divine Comedy right now, but I do still plan to participate in the buddy read for Much Ado About Nothing. That might go a little better for me right now, then I can jump back in to Dante.

Sarah | 468 comments Anyone else still planning on Much Ado About Nothing?

Loretta, you still in?

I plan to start early to middle of next week.

Yes, Sarah! Thanks! Next week sounds great! :)

Jennifer (diary-of-a-part-time-writer) | 54 comments I just read Othello a few months ago, but I'm planning on reading King Lear either this month or in January!

message 159: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 468 comments Is anyone else reading Much Ado About Nothing?

message 160: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments So.....King Lear? Is anyone still interested in buddy reading?

I know we're scheduled for December, but shall we move that back to 2017?

Anytime works for me.

message 161: by Lena (new)

Lena | 346 comments Sure. I got about halfway and stopped ages ago. Need to pick it back up. Mid January?

I read KL earlier this year, so can discuss anytime.

I'm planning to read it probably in February, but I could maybe do January. Whenever you guys decide to read it, I will jump in with my comments when I catch up! ;-)

message 164: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (diary-of-a-part-time-writer) | 54 comments I got sucked into a black hole of Work Troubles and haven't had time to read it yet this month. I'd be up for reading it in January!

message 165: by Brina (new)

Brina Same here. I got sidetracked and added it to next year's Bingo.

message 166: by Melanti (new)

Melanti | 1894 comments I'd join in on a January buddy read of King Lear.

It's been a couple of decades since I read it, and I've forgotten most of it.

message 167: by Angie (new)

Angie | 496 comments King Lear is on my list, too. I'd join in on a buddy read any month.

message 168: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Ok, so it looks like mid January should suit everyone? I'll pick up a second hand copy read to start in the new year :)

message 169: by Karen (new)

Karen Ireland (book-vixen) I love to reread Shakespeare Romeo and JulietMacbethOthello.

I like to read King Lear and Much Ado About Nothing.

message 170: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Karen, we have discussion threads for all of those books, so you can post your comments on the relevant threads if you want to share your opinion and see what everyone else thought of them :)

message 171: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 468 comments In January or February, would anyone be interested in reading The Winter's Tale with me?

My preference would lean towards sometime in January.
Would mid-January work for you?

message 178: by Melanti (new)

Melanti | 1894 comments Looks like the local theater is putting on All's Well That Ends Well in late April. It's one I've never read or seen before (that I can recall).

Anyone interested in a buddy read for this one next month? I'll probably try to read it just before going, so around the middle of the month.

Melanti wrote: "Looks like the local theater is putting on All's Well That Ends Well in late April. ..."

I've been a terrible buddy reader, but I will try to join you!

message 180: by Melanti (new)

Melanti | 1894 comments I'm a terrible buddy reader myself (See my complete and utter lack of participation in the King Lear buddy read despite having said I'd join in), but in this particular case, I always try to read one of his plays before seeing it so I can safely say I'm going to read it next month.

But we can wait and see if there'll be more participation before making it an official buddy read. No big deal if there isn't a buddy read.

I'll have another round of Shakespeare plays coming up in late July too, so there'll be more chances to read Shakespeare if you don't want to read this particular one or don't have time, etc.

I was actually looking for my town's main summertime Shakespeare Festival to see if this year's selections have been announced yet, and instead found a smaller spring Shakespeare Festival out in the suburbs. The pics from last year's festival look rather low-budget, but Shakespeare wasn't originally done with a ton of elaborate scenery so as long as the acting is decent, it shouldn't matter.

message 181: by Melanti (new)

Melanti | 1894 comments Looks like this year's Shakespeare festival plays are Twelfth Night and Richard III.

I'll probably read them in late July if anyone wants to join in.

Twelfth Night is one of his comedies. Shipwrecks and mistaken identities (fraternal twins & cross dressing involved). It's been a long time since I read or saw it, but I remember it being fun.

Richard III is a history, and I don't know too much about it other than it's one of the ones Bujold references quite a bit in her Vorkosigan Saga.

Again, no pressure. I'll be reading them regardless, so just offering in case anyone wants to join in.

Katy (kathy_h) | 9543 comments Mod
When it gets closer to July, let me know & I'll hope to join you. Both are great plays. We can wait until you are ready before adding them to the schedule.

message 183: by Melanti (new)

Melanti | 1894 comments Oh, of course.

Just figured I'd get an early word in, so that if there was a ton of enthusiasm for one or the other we could nominate it for an official group read.

Crazy, but the July nominations start in a little over 2 weeks!

message 184: by Pink (last edited Apr 12, 2017 02:13PM) (new)

Pink | 5491 comments I might join with Twelfth Night, as I've been considering getting tickets for a production of this too. I'll keep an eye out for nominations or a possible buddy read.

Let's do it. Either one I'd be happy to read again.

message 186: by Melanti (last edited Apr 12, 2017 02:41PM) (new)

Melanti | 1894 comments Sounds like a plan!

I'll nominate Twelfth Night next month and we'll see how it does.

Melanti | 1894 comments The local theater company is putting on Hamlet and The Comedy of Errors at the end of July.

I love Hamlet so I'll definitely be reading it again in July. I'm sure many of you guys have already read this one, but I thought I'd mention it in case there's enough interest in a buddy read.

message 188: by Katy, Quarterly Long Reads (new)

Katy (kathy_h) | 9543 comments Mod
Am I correct in seeing that as a group Hamlet has been neither a group read or a buddy read?

I'm in for July!

message 189: by Melanti (new)

Melanti | 1894 comments Yep! One of his most famous ones, and one of the most interesting to see in performance, yet it's never been read in this group, even unofficially.

(I figured I'd give Bob a break and suggest it as a buddy read rather than a group read...)

When do you plan to read this? The first of the month or mid-July? I'm in!

message 192: by Melanti (new)

Melanti | 1894 comments More mid to end. I think the festival is the last weekend of July and the first weekend of August so definitely before then, but I have no firm plans.
