Segilola Salami (segilolasalami) | 405 comments Hi all,

So I got my local librarian to come on my podcast show to talk about how to get books into libraries

He and the other guest April of authorsensei.com had some really good comments.

It's not yet live on my podcast feed but you can listen to it on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6W5Dq... hope you find it beneficial

Best wishes

Segilola Salami (segilolasalami) | 405 comments my pleasure folks :D

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) It's also a good idea if you use Amazon's Createspace as your POD to make sure you opt into their free "expanded distribution" to make it easier for libraries to order your book via Baker & Taylor.

Won't guarantee your book will be on library shelves, but will add your book to the ordering catalog of a commonly used distributor.

David Kummer I looked into using Amazon's Createspace "extended distribution" option, but it made the price of my book jump up like 4 or 5 dollars, and for a paperback that's a big deal. I got my book into the local library system just by donating it, and for now I'm alright with that.

Segilola Salami (segilolasalami) | 405 comments CS distributes through Ingram, so I prefer to go through them directly

Justin (justinbienvenue) Before I listen to this I will note that all libraries are different. Ever since I published my first book I've been trying to get my books into my local library but always get the same response from different people, "We only do non-profit, we can't do that sorry."

You think they'd ask if I would donate the book or ask to buy copies off me or even ask where they can get copies but no, no one has been nearly that smart in the place to ask me. It's been two years since I've asked and they changed people so maybe there's a bright bulb working there now.

Anyways, I'll listen in on the podcast. :)

A nice idea, very good guests. Congratulations. A little editing was in order. You have a good microphone, possibly too good. Do you have a way to modulate the volume and reduce b/g noise?

Segilola Salami (segilolasalami) | 405 comments thanks J but I'm not that technically savvy :((

Hmm. Wish I could help. (1) Maybe sit back a little farther from the mike. (2) Make a few test recordings with the mike placed in different spots. (3) Blanket(s) under the mike or across a curtain rod near your "studio" might help cut extraneous noise. Recording quality is as important as content. Keep it coming!

message 15: by David (new)

David Kummer We can all agree you quality as well as your content is still much better than anything I could do, Segilola :) It's fantastic!

Segilola Salami (segilolasalami) | 405 comments Thanks David, you are much too kind. I'm optimisticyou would do exceedingly well if you put your mind to it :D

Thanks J, I'll see what I can do.

Quantum (quantumkatana) here's a relevant article on ingramspark:

http://www.ingramspark.com/blog/how-i...

a few months ago, my daughter told me that she absolutely wanted to get her book--whenever she finishes it--into libraries. i told her that it was probably very unlikely for a self-published ebook, but now i can tell her that it is definitely possible!

oh, historical novels--like the American Girl series (Meet Samantha: An American Girl)--would do well in libraries, as would parenting and children's books.
