If vampires can't read, how come Myrnin is reading a book when Clair goes to see him in the cell?

Um just saying but it never said vampires couldn't read they just said that they couldn't read that one book that was in latin or something in the first book. If vampires couldn't read how did Myrnin use books to learn more throughout the centuries?

No, they can read! It mentions in a lot of places that they're reading.
