I have read this one already. Parts of it were impossible to put down. I am going to lurk while you all read it. :)
This is the first John Connelly book I read. He is a good writer, although somewhat violent. I love his books.
He's an awesome writer. I've read several of his books. I hope to read this one someday. It's on my to-read list.
I love the fact that it is a supernatural mystery and its done so well. It has me intrigued. For those that read it if you can remember discuss it with us.
Great Melanie! You arent far behind me, I just read it a little bit last night. What a brutal beginning!Glad to hear that it is a great book!
Melanie wrote: "Well, that started with a bang!"It did start out with a bang, but now it is starting to get confusing and hard to follow. I like it but not loving it like I did in the beginning. I hope it picks up soon.
Thats alright Melanie. It did pick up, and it starting to get good again. Its all starting to come togethor and getting easier to follow.
Its getting a lot better Melanie. End of chapter 14- (view spoiler) Is that suspenseful or what! Since that part it gets really suspenseful. (view spoiler).
Melanie wrote: "Brenda, if you're lurking, I see that you dnf this one. Curious why?"Melanie, I tried reading this in 2013. I don't recall much about it, but it was probably just my mindset at the time that made me quit. I did go on to read the next three books soon after, and rated them 3 stars each. Thought I'd lurk to see what I missed back then.
It is getting slooow! I am having a hard time with this book. I am on chapter 50 and I am going to take a small break and get back to it.
Oh no! You are way ahead of me! I went out last night after work (saw the band The Heavy at First Avenue). Didn't get to bed until midnight so no reading yesterday. I'm on chapter 20 and not bored YET :-)
Its alright Melanie. Sounds like you had a good time. I am just taking a little break, let me know when you get to chspter 50 and I will start reading it then.
Lol! I am so sorry Melanie! It is chapter 30. It was late at night, thats the only reason I can think of that had me put chapter 50. So when you get to chapter 30 let me know and I will start reading it. You may already be passed me lol! How are you liking it so far, I find it really slow.
I've caught up to you Mary! I like it so far. I'm not bored with it although it's a bit long. I'm anxious to see where it goes from here!
Hey Mary - are you still bored with the book? I think it's a bit long but I'm not bored with it. I'm liking it. I've got about 140 pages left.
I have tried and tried to like the book but I just cant get into it. I have found out that I dont like books that go to past to present. It was just a little confusing to me. I picked it up last night and after reading it for almost two hours I decided to DNF it which I usually dont due. I mainly have to have nonstop action in the books that I read. It could be my reading experience this month. Ive been in a slump and have DNFed 3 books this month. I hardly ever DNF a book. I am sorry Melanie. We will have to do a buddy read on another book soon. I am reading Faithless by Karin Slaughter and it is so good. I love this series.
I actually thought it was a slog too. I just remember being first confused and then bored. I do remember that the ending was much better than the whole book though. I gave it 3 stars, but never felt interested to read on in the series. Dont feel bad Mary.
No problem Mary! We can't all like the same books. That's one of the great things about GR, I think. I am hoping to finish today because I have
waiting for me at the library (there were about 400 holds on this when I put my name on the list). Everyone is raving about this one so I have high expectations! Yes, I agree we should read something else together sometime :-)
Mary wrote: "Thanks Vicki! I am glad I am not the only one that felt this way."Mary and Vicki, you've both felt the same as I did when I read it. I also DNF this book. Maybe it wasn't just me then, and my feelings are somewhat validated.
Melanie and Ann, I'm happy that you both enjoyed the book. We are all unique, aren't we?!
I also want to thank Mary and Melanie for this thread and allowing me to peek in!
