Sorry, Shannon. My end of challenge anxiety is getting the best of me! LOL, you'd think I really had something on the line for this thing.

Not sleeping until I have at least one done before I hit the hay.

message 454: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2083 comments Carrie, do you want this week's pass? I actually read a book anyway that would fit the theme. That way you'll have less to catch up on. :)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 987 comments So it will before Week 7: Book mentioned in one of the 2014 'What are you reading?' topics

Option 2 key date: 8 January 2014
Or the island one?

Butting in - It has to be the island theme. You can't change your mind outside the actual theme announcement week :)

I took my pass this week (the island theme), so it would be for that.

3 stars

It took me a LONG time to warm up to Jillian. This also was a glaring example of the infuriating results of two MCs refusing to talk to each other. I mean, seriously. One conversation and all their troubles would go away. But, of course, that conversation didn't happen until the end of the book. Soooo...it was a good enough story to keep me reading until the end, but not good enough to keep my eyes from rolling around in my head.

Yeah, this one wasn't the greatest. I kinda expected more from KMM, but it's good to hear the rest of the series is better!

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 4192 comments From Jane:

Week 9

Theme 14: Main character is mega-wealthy
Option 2 key date: 22 January 2014 (must be rated at least 3 stars, and you can't go back further than this 'date read' if you select from a team-member's bookshelf)

You must note how this theme qualifies in your selection post including a link to a shelf with a word such as 'millionaire' or noting that the theme is evident on the GR summary page/blurb/precis.

Please don't be lazy and hope that your description is sufficient.

Words acceptable for shelf names are:
'Billionaire'
'Millionaire'
'Tycoon'
Or their expansions/contractions. 'Wealthy' and 'Rich' will not be sufficient.

I'm not taking any other possibilities for this round. The shelf or precis MUST have one of these words in it.

Book: Jack Who? Perfect Storms (Silver Strings G, #1) by Lisa Gillis
Found: https: //www.goodreads.com/list/show/16899.Mus...
Pages: 185
Finished: July 24th
Rated: 2 stars
Review: For me this book was kind of meh, I think thats why it took me forever to get through it. Marissa has been cheated on by her boyfriend, so she dumps him and goes out to a music festival with her best friend Olivia to get over it. Resulting in a one night stand with Jack Storm lead singer of the band Jackel. Through out the years they have sent a handful of texts mostly saying "hi" but never seeing each other in person. Marissa never wanting to see him until a few years later when her son, his son needs medical care.

Blah blah they hook up again blah blah there is trust issues, blah blah he's loved her for years, blah blah they end. So my over all opinion is meh with a side of blah

So, I wasn't sure about this book after the last one. But, I guess it had a few things going for it right off the bat:

1. I REALLY wanted to know what happened after Sophia walked out on Sebastian at the end of Locked (well, I guess walked out is too strong of a phrase, it was more liked slinked out in the night like the coward she was...but you get the picture).

2. It's a lot easier for me to tolerate cliffhanger endings WHEN I'M TOLD FROM THE BEGINNING that it will be a cliffhanger. TAKE NOTE AUTHORS. It's definitely an easier pill to swallow.

3. My library had the book available for e-lending.

Anyway, getting back to the actual review. I was surprised when this story took off right from where the first book ended. No recap or review to get you back up to speed. So, if you didn't read the first book, there's no way you should even think about this one.

Sebastian's hot and cold got a little on my nerves, but I thought he had a few moments where I just wanted to eat him up. I'm not counting the moments when they were f*cking because, I always wanted to eat him up them. But, I'm talking when he met Sophia's friends and when she met some of his. It was during the times like those when I thought he was someone Sophia should put some effort into pushing past the boundaries.

But then he would put the walls back up and piss me off all over again.

I was really feeling for Sophia at the end there. Her world was really falling apart and then the ending just shocked the heck out of me. I have so many questions now.

What the hell is Sebastian really doing? What happened to Sophia? What will come of her career?

GAH, there are so many questions and not a whole lot of answers. Luckily, I've got book three loaded up now and I'll be reading in within the next week or two. I'm so glad I didn't have to wait for this book to come out. I think I would have been going crazy with wanting to know what happened next!

The Zebra Striped Shirt by Cameron Vale The Zebra Striped Shirt ★★★

Left with a cliffhanger?!? wtf?!? Can't really say that I loved either Danny or Jon in this story. They were both rather annoying for the first half of the book. The book is also written in metaphors and maybe it's just me but I like things spelled out a little more. I don't want to have to think that much. (I realize that is a sad thing, so what!) I didn't even realize Jon and Stan sold BDSM implements until much later than I was suppose to. It just finally clicked for me. I thought I was getting a sweet love story and what I got was a BDSM story with a seriously broken sub and a Dom not capable of handling him. Not such a good match. Thankfully they had Stan to help. Not sure if the next book is going to make the cut or not yet.

I'm not really into reading books about billionaires but I I couldn't put this book down.
This is a Fifty shades spin-off but much better. Bianca is a flight attendant and James Cavendish is the millionaire, of course. I liked Bianca, she has an abusive past, but she is strong and has an awesome best friend, Shephen. Not the most original idea but I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read the rest of the story at Mile High and Grounded.
