Emy, correct me if I'm wrong, but according to the Librarian Edits log, you were the one who did the "Reverting image_uploaded_at from change 33233660 image_uploaded_at: 'Wed Sep 26 18:20:25 -0700 2012' to '', resulting both editions to have different covers. When I requested the merge, both editions have the same cover and the information were correct for both pages.
The page you reverted the cover now has the wrong cover; the page indicates it is for an English edition, when the cover is clearly a Japanese cover. However, due to the question you raised... I did look into it and find a somewhat more puzzling situation:

Apparently the page that got its cover changed used to have "9784088467078" for its ISBN13 and actually originally have most information correct (cover and language)... I have no idea why the creator of the page decided to change the language from Japanese to English while also changing the publication date and later the cover, basically converting the page from the Japanese edition to the English edition... It was really confusing.
So, if we want to overlook the weird switch of edition that happened to that page later on, then the page in question should be merged with the Japanese edition
. Whereas, if we want to base on what the edition the page intended to switch to, then the request still stands, if that makes any sense.Let me know how you feel it should be proceeded? I guess I'll be needing to correct how they are combined according to the decision. Anyways, thank you so much for being thorough with the request!

#713 Apologies for making assumptions in my previous explanation, I'll try to be clearer now.As a super, if the reason for merging A into B is that they are duplicates based on cover, I need to look into previous cover changes to see whether a cover was changed wrongly earlier in the Record's life. This is the edit you see above. My question for you is to establish which edition the copy should be paired with. I have no doubt that it is a merge candidate, but I need to be certain that the edition it is paired with matches the data on the one that is there, and it doesn't when looking at the edit history.
Where I must leave it to you to decide:
* Is this an edition created with the cover in the wrong language (not uncommon in that kind of book, unfortunately) - merge goes ahead as previously listed, but with your confirmation.
* Is this an edition of a Japanese edition (cover match), in which case please can you pair it with that and relist.

No need to apologize! I'm sorry if what I wrote made you feel it is needed! Even when I read what I wrote before posting it, I can see it sounding accusingly, unfortunately I have no idea how to fix that while still conveying my question, so there's that. Anyways, like I said, thank you for being thorough, cuz if you hadn't done so, I doubt I would have dug out the weird past edits.
It seems that the content of the questionable page
was originally basically identical to

I find it highly disrespectful to the edition that was switched out...If it were up to me, then yes, I would prefer for it to be merged to the Japanese edition, however, I am honestly wary and worry for the possibly of people getting into their heads and attempting to make the default an English edition again. Do you think regardlessly we should just proceed anyways? Let me know your thoughts!
Again, thank you SO MUCH for being patient with me! I don't even read this series, was just trying to correct the data on Goodreads for those who do, but I feel that if this were happening to series I do read, I would be even more frustrated, so I'm really appreciating the help you are offering. =D
Firstly - changes made contrary to policy should (almost) always be flagged. Occasionally it's worth checking who made the changes, e.g., Staff, but almost always it's flaggable - and you'll recognise the names pretty quickly too! If you have flagged changes, though, I'd hold off on the request for a day or so to give Staff time to take a look (I'm not confident that data on changes persists if the copy is removed). I we, as librarians, make changes as above based on consensus or other discussions, my advice would always be to link to the discussion in the Change Comment with as much detail as possible. It makes it SO much easier to figure out what happened and why... Unfortunately not all people do that bit so we're left guessing.My feeling with this one is that it was set up as Japanese in 2012
The same editor changed it to English three months later, and changed the cover a number of times.
In 2013 a Librarian moved the ISBN13 to the Japanese edition - this I feel is when it should have been merged.
Are you OK with it being merged into the Japanese edition?

Goodreads does not remove valid editions, including editions that are now out of print. If you need assistance with setting up Alternate Cover edition for the first title, please start a new thread.

I think we could safely merge the remaining two editions. They are almost certainly the same.
Only difference is the number of pages. In the one with correct ISBN it is 176, the other has 256. I own a copy of the very book with the correct ISBN, so 256 is the correct info, double-checked on publisher´s book page. However, Brazilian Amazon says "176", but I guess this is a mistake.
Published year is 1988 (book CIP data). I'll fix that later. In my opinion there may have been a reprint in 2013 (date quoted in Brazilian Amazon), but I could find no reference to another edition. Publisher mentions no date. World Cat mentions only 1988 publication.
If I find any reference in the future I can add a different edition then.

About flagging though, again I'm not exactly sure just which one of during the course of action is the one to be pinpointed as violation... it didn't like to be all done in one go? (I don't know if only supers are able to check past images used for book covers; if regular librarians can do so, I have yet to figure out how); I'm guessing actions done on Mar 27, 2012 12:19PM is an indication, but then the one done on Jun 12, 2012 04:30PM is also a defining moment cuz of the change of publication date.... Should I be flagging ALL the questionable edits? (still not quite sure how it works)

To answer your question though; yes, I would like the page to be merged with the Japanese page. But I do think Staff should be seeing this as well. BTW, how exactly will we know if the Staff has seen it? Do we get to know at all? Cuz I have flagged stuff before, and well, I never heard back from them (and I'm not even sure if I was supposed to), so in this case, I don't know when the merge could be proceeded. (Also needed to figure exactly what to flag) (I think I'll definitely do the one for language change and then the one for publication change; as I can't verify the images. Let me know if you think others should be flagged as well)
