Anybody interested in reading this? I believe there are five (maybe 6) in the series that has already been released. WARNING - The first book is something like 835 pages. Don't know about the others yet. Haven't looked. Plan to start tomorrow. May 18th.

Malina I'm currently reading A Dance with Dragons which is the fifth one, yes they are all massive and you need to take a break in between them IMO, so many plots and characters in each one ....

Cheryl Hall | 19 comments There are five books currently released in the A Song of Ice and Fire series.

A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings
A Storm of Swords
A Feast for Crows
A Dance with Dragons

I won't be re-reading with you this time but I thoroughly recommend these books. As you have mentioned they are all very long, but they are also incredibly addicting.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

Well thank you Malina and Cheryl. I will definitely be taking my time with them.

message 5: by Holly (new)

Holly | 140 comments I'm still reading A Game of Thrones. I'll read them with you Cindy!

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Awesome. You might have to let me catch up a little because I haven't even started A Game of Thrones yet. How far are you into it?

message 7: by Sam (new)

Sam Arnold (samharnold) I just brought this and was going to give the first book a try soon. If I like it I will go on and buy the rest. Am addicted to the series.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I started reading it today Sam but I'm not very far into it. Like 40 pages or so. Join in :D

message 9: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Hall | 19 comments I hope you enjoy it Cindy! Are you going in unspoiled? I hope so..

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Yep

message 12: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I want to read it, its on my list, but I have a lot of other books on my list as well.

message 13: by Sam (new)

Sam Arnold (samharnold) Sounds good Cindy I have a review book I am reading as well so might be a little slow but would be good to read it with someone. Have you seen the series?

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't made hardly any progress on this book with all that's been going on. I'm babysitting now M-F and losing Angie as a moderator hurts. She really put some work into this group. Guess I'm going to need to read for a long time tonight before bed.

message 15: by Sam (new)

Sam Arnold (samharnold) I read quite a bit of this last night paid for it this morning though. Let me know if I can do anything to help with the group. Take care of yourself Cindy.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Sam. I just now got caught up with posts, polls, etc. If we need any help, I will definitely keep you in mind. I appreciate the offer. Hopefully, tonight will be a "reading night". Ate leftovers so I'm not cooking tonight. Nothing really to do now but read :D.

message 17: by Sam (new)

Sam Arnold (samharnold) Excellent enjoy your downtime.

Guys, if you ever manage to finish the first book lol then count me for the second part :)

message 20: by Sam (new)

Sam Arnold (samharnold) I am hoping to get there if my life stops interrupting my reading.

I know what you mean...my today's tourists have arrived almost at midnight and I had to wait for them at the road in the total dark (yes, I live in a village, we have an occasional street light lol)

When I was younger we had no lights...the walk from the bus stop used to be like from horror movies with all the bushes etc :)))

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Sam I've been having trouble also. Starting a babysitting job for a nine month old and thought I would have time to get some reading in but NOT. It is truly a full-time job. I had to work today but I'm off Sun and Mon so (fingers crossed), I'll get caught up without a bunch of interruptions at home.

message 23: by Diane (new)

Diane | 76 comments I will get on-board with the first one. If I am not enthralled, I will stop there, but have me and to read the first book awhile

message 24: by Diane (new)

Diane | 76 comments How long do we have to read this. I started it and then took a nap. Grand kids are here for the fifth night in a row and I was informed by six year old Sevina that they plan to spend the summer. LOL.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

Sam gave us a challenge of two weeks as of yesterday. Should be doable by most people's standards I think :D.

message 26: by Sam (new)

Sam Arnold (samharnold) Have really got into this today. Was wondering whether you guys had seen the series or are you reading the books fresh. I have seen the first couple of series and it has really helped me keep track of who is who in the early stages. Wondered if you had the same advantage?

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

No, I haven't seen any of the series. We don't even have cable or satellite. Just Netflix and Hulu. It's getting a little better with the characters and such the further I read.

message 28: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments I wish I could muster the nerve to reread these, they are really amazing books. I want to wait until I know the new one is imminent though. I think it took me four months to read them through the first time.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

God, I hope not. I don't have four months to spare. Unless, I just keep going as is and read three or four books at a time.

message 30: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments I don't know, Cindy. When I read this series, I had to dedicate all of my reading time to it. There was no room for anything else.

message 31: by Gregor (new)

Gregor Xane (gregorxane) | 106 comments Yeah, it takes me about 3 weeks to get through one of these suckers. Reading speed-wise, I'd say I'm about average.

message 32: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Same here, Gregor. I usually have a couple books going at once, a paperback at work, and ebook most anywhere else, but I have never been a speed reader. I like to savor every word.

message 33: by Gregor (new)

Gregor Xane (gregorxane) | 106 comments Adam, how many of these did you read back-to-back? All five?

message 34: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments Yes, all five.

message 35: by Diane (new)

Diane | 76 comments I am in the hospital since this evening, nut will try to read some of this. I will try to catch up but do not wait for me.

message 36: by Leah (new)

Leah Labbe | 6 comments I read all 5 back-to-back last year. Finished in 3 months (its about 4,500 pages overall). I was reading other books at the same time (just looked at last years stats and I finished 10 other books during the three months as well). I had seen season one of the HBO show and loved it so much I wanted to read the books. I will probably wait until the 6th book is ready to be released before re-reading the series.

message 37: by Sam (new)

Sam Arnold (samharnold) At the moment I am loving the first one. Not sure I can read them all one after another though was thinking of reading them mixed with others.

message 38: by Malina (new)

Malina Sam wrote: "At the moment I am loving the first one. Not sure I can read them all one after another though was thinking of reading them mixed with others."

I had to take a break in between, they can be overwhelming!

message 39: by Gregor (new)

Gregor Xane (gregorxane) | 106 comments Adam wrote: "Yes, all five."

Wow. I couldn't do that. I'd OD.

I almost never read two books back-to-back by the same author.

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

Sorry folks. I know it gets really high ratings but it just wasn't my bag. Felt like I was in a college history class once again. Too much to keep track of.

message 41: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I finished it the other day. Seemed to be a lot of set up. Introducing characters, then killing them. But I thought the 3 mains of Jon, Tyrion, and Dany were interesting. Jon's character has me interested. I have a theory of who his mother is...but I haven't read the rest of the books yet. Tyrion, he he really a Lannister? And Dany...WOW! Brutal.

message 42: by Nikki (last edited Jul 14, 2014 06:47PM) (new)

Nikki Catelyn, bored me. I liked Robb. I want to know more about Bran...he seems to have some sort of "visions"? And Rickon? Poor Rickon.

WOW! What a piece of work Lysa is...

Can we just chop off Joff's head while we're at it...

And Jamie and Cersi? Really?!

What will book 2 bring?? oh dear.

Arya?
