This thread is to help members who are struggling with book to pick for their catergories which are

Romance, Urban Fantasy, YA/Mystery, Chick-lit and Fantasy.
Any and all suggestion are welcome. You can also discuss the books you plan to read for this challenge hear as well.

this is a great idea for anyone who is sure about where their book choices should go. I 'm not having any trouble with the Romance, UF or YA sections but would love a few recommendations for the Chicklit and Fantasy catagories.

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) Kat, I went through your TBR list and you have a lot of Chick-lit on there, at least by my standards--someone let me know if I'm wrong, since I don't read much of this genre. I classify paranormal chick-lit as anything with a cartoony cover and a fun love story, kind of like Bridget Jones if she were a vampire. :)

So these series from your list would work (these are the 1st book of each series)--
[image error] I'm the Vampire, That's Why (Broken Heart Vampires, #1) (Signet Eclipse) by Michele Bardsley My Favorite Witch (Accidental Witch Trilogy, #2) (Berkley Sensation) by Annette Blair Girl's Guide to Witchcraft (Jane Madison, Book 1) by Mindy Klasky Enchanted, Inc. by Shanna Swendson

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) And here are series on your TBR that fit the straight fantasy genre--

Graceling by Kristin Cashore Fire by Kristin Cashore

The Bone Doll's Twin (The Tamír Triad, #1) by Lynn Flewelling Hidden Warrior (The Tamír Triad, #2) by Lynn Flewelling The Oracle's Queen (The Tamír Triad, #3) by Lynn Flewelling

And I see that you read and gave 5 stars to the first 4 books in Anne Bishop's Black Jewels series, there are 3 more books in that series, as well as one that comes out in March. It is one of my fave fantasy series for anyone else who needs straight fantasy books, it is dark fantasy with romance & sex. :)

Daughter of the Blood (The Black Jewels, #1) by Anne Bishop Heir to the Shadows (The Black Jewels, #2) by Anne Bishop Queen of the Darkness (The Black Jewels, #3) by Anne Bishop The Invisible Ring (The Black Jewels, #4) by Anne Bishop Dreams Made Flesh (The Black Jewels, #5) by Anne Bishop Tangled Webs (The Black Jewels, #6) by Anne Bishop The Shadow Queen (The Black Jewels, #7) by Anne Bishop Shalador's Lady (The Black Jewels, #8) by Anne Bishop

I also saw that you gave 5 stars to the Lord of the Rings books, if you liked them you will like George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice & Fire Series. It is probably my fave fantasy series, but I must warn people that he is still writing it and it has been about 4 years since the 4th book came and we are waiting very impatiently for the next. It is epic high fantasy, not much romance but tons of intrigue and his character development is just awesome, you even love the characters you hate. HBO just filmed a pilot for a series based on these books--we will find out in March whether or not they decide to pick it up but it looks promising.

A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) by George R.R. Martin A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire, #3) by George R.R. Martin A Feast for Crows (A Song of Ice and Fire, #4) by George R.R. Martin

This is a YA fantasy series, I've read the 1st two so far, the 1st one was great and the second one was pretty good.

The Goose Girl (The Books of Bayern, #1) by Shannon Hale Enna Burning (The Books of Bayern, #2) by Shannon Hale River Secrets (The Books of Bayern, #3) by Shannon Hale Forest Born (The Books of Bayern, #4) by Shannon Hale

Maria Synder's Study series is fantasy--
Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder Magic Study (Study, #2) by Maria V. Snyder Fire Study (Study, #3) by Maria V. Snyder

This is a series that reads like UF but is straight fantasy, I really like it, it is funny and the characters are great, but the book covers are soooo cheesy--that's actually why I read them, if you read the reviews, everyone says "don't pay attention to the cheesy covers, they are not indicative of the books inside!" :)
Resenting the Hero (Hero Series, #1) by Moira J. Moore The Hero Strikes Back (Hero Series, #2) by Moira J. Moore Heroes Adrift (Hero Series, #3) by Moira J. Moore Heroes at Risk (Hero Series, #4) by Moira J. Moore

This is a really good YA fantasy trilogy--

The Hollow Kingdom (The Hollow Kingdom Trilogy Book I) by Clare B. Dunkle Close Kin (The Hollow Kingdom Trilogy Book II) by Clare B. Dunkle In the Coils of the Snake (The Hollow Kingdom Trilogy Book III) by Clare B. Dunkle

This is a great fantasy series set in ancient Ireland with the fae, each book has a different female main character from another generation of the same family--

Daughter of the Forest (Sevenwaters, #1) by Juliet Marillier [image error] Child of the Prophecy (Sevenwaters, #3) by Juliet Marillier Heir to Sevenwaters (Sevenwaters, #4) by Juliet Marillier

These are all books that I've read and highly recommend, I'm going to go through my fantasy TBR list and find you guys some more with high reviews.

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) I just noticed on the other thread that you can also do historical instead of chick-lit, I think I am going to go that route because I have been wanting to read the Gardella series, so here is another series for that category--

The Rest Falls Away (Gardella Vampire Chronicles, #1) by Colleen Gleason Rises The Night (Gardella Vampire Chronicles, #2) by Colleen Gleason The Bleeding Dusk (Gardella Vampire Chronicles, #3) by Colleen Gleason When Twilight Burns (Gardella Vampire Chronicles, #4) by Colleen Gleason As Shadows Fade (Gardella Vampire Chronicles, #5) by Colleen Gleason

And here are a few more paranormal historical books that I have read and recommend--

Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate #1) by Gail Carriger [image error] (2nd book comes out in March)

This was a really good historical fantasy about the Norse Gods-

Ice Land by Betsy Tobin

Would time travel fall under paranormal historical? If it does, the Outlander books are one of my fave series ever. They're big books but I flew through them, maybe because I choose continuing to read rather than sleeping while I was reading this series. :)

Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon Dragonfly in Amber (Outlander, #2) by Diana Gabaldon [image error] [image error] The Fiery Cross (Outlander, #5) by Diana Gabaldon A Breath of Snow and Ashes (Outlander, #6) by Diana Gabaldon An Echo in the Bone (Outlander, #7) by Diana Gabaldon

And here are a couple I have on my TBR list that look good--

The Dream Thief (Drakon, #2) by Shana Abé The Smoke Thief (Drakon, #1) by Shana Abé Queen of Dragons (Drakon, #3) by Shana Abé

Another Scottish time travel one, this is the 1st in a series and is the only one out so far.
Blue Bells of Scotland (Blue Bells Trilogy #1) by Laura Vosika

Geeze, you just made me add a ton to my TBR list! All of these look really good.

message 10: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jnhart) So if chick lit is a cartoony cover and a fun love story, would Fire Me Up (Aisling Grey Guardian, #2) by Katie MacAlister be chicklit?

All her covers are pretty cartoony with fun love stories (and a dash of dragons & demons to liven it up)

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 43 comments I used the Aisling Grey as part of my chick-lit reads, Jennifer.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

For the fantasy category. I also count PNR or UF books where the author has created an alternate world - like the Demonica books by Larissa Ione and Kresley Cole's Immortal After Dark books.

Jennifer, Aisling most definitely counts as chick-lit.
@Phaythe- sister mine that works as well.

message 14: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jnhart) OK - another question. Could I count The Princess Brideas romance? Or would it need to go under fantasy?

Jo Singh | 8 comments Just wondering would Molly harpers Jane Jameson series count as chick-lit?

It sounds chicklit to me. Post a link to the book and I will let you know. I'm not familiar with that series.

Jennifer (jnhart) Anyone know if Full Moon Rising (Riley Jenson Guardian, #1) by Keri Arthur fits into any of our categories for this challenge? I would classify it as PNR, so can that count as romance?

I classified it as PNR or Urban Fantasy but it'll work for Romance as well.
