numbering convention for serials

not really a series question, but since these typically show up as series and I can't find in the manual

how do we number serials (those books that are 40-50 pages); all of the same story but broken into parts...keep as a series, label as A, B etc...

Usually we would treat them like any other series. Book 1, 2, 3, etc. and then if they are collected, the collection is treated as an omnibus (1-6 or whatever).

There are occasional serials with more complex interlocking parts.
