Well, it can be a problem if the genre you want is near the bottom and there are other genres with almost as many shelvings - then it just takes a couple people shelving a book as those other genres to push a genre that's low on the list off the main page when another genre gets more shelvings. It's the inevitable result of crowd sourcing - that's also why you see so many odd shelvings.
But I'd be willing to bet that "romance" will never leave the main page for Jane Eyre, or "science fiction" for any Isaac Asimov fiction!
