Review
A free kindle read. I have been leary of them but this time pleasantly surprised. I thought it was very unique and creative. I have never read a story quite like this one.
Hailey took the eReader plunge to conserve space in her cramped apartment, and ordered the Kindle with the special offers. As she was setting it up, she was zapped, and suddenly she wasn’t alone in her mind! The essence of a man from another realm was in there with her! The dry and opinionated Sebastian!
This leads to her to meeting Alex, a friend of the Sebastian’s, another realm traveler with magical powers. Together, the three of them need to get Sebastian back into his body, which is being hidden away by yet ANOTHER realm traveler, who happens to be our villain!
Hailey is a great character who has a wonderful sense of humor. She has taken on this responsibility, freaked out at first until she meets Alex. I loved Hailey's interaction with Sebastian even though at the time, he is only a voice in her head.
This book had mystery, action, suspense and romance all wrapped together and you will not expect how this book will end.

Review:
I love urban fantasy and this is an example of one of the best. Great characters, action and suspense.
For me this book had an old school crime novel feel to it, which I loved. In my head was the voice of Dan Akroyd in Dragnet.
This was a fun and entertaining read from beginning to end. A world where civil rights are extended to all, no matter your sex, race, religion, or if you are living or one of the undead. A world where humans and the supernatural coexist. The main character is Stan Markowski, a cop on the supe (supernatural) squad. He handles cases that involve crimes committed by or committed against supernatural beings (Vampires, werewolves, witches, goblins etc).

So I started

Bummer, LL, but I hear ya on the YA timing. Glad you're liking it so far though. That was one of my YA favorite trilogies.

Review:
Allison Hewitt and her five colleagues at the Brooks and Peabody Bookstore are trapped together when the zombie outbreak hits. I expected this to be kind of fun. It starts out a bit that way, Shaun of the Dead-esque but quickly evolves into this dark drama.
It is worth a read, imho, but don’t let the cartoonish cover fool you. For every light moment, there are a half dozen more dark moments. Every good character is flawed and some are downright awful. I liked the blog format and the comments from the readers to break up the horrors of the everyday happenings. There are loose threads all over this story, because occasionally you just won’t ever find out what happened to character “X”. Told in a first person perspective, it seems that you are told in an almost dispassionate way about murder or what have you because Allison has become removed from the student/daughter/bookstore employee she once was.
Its not all doom and gloom but I didn’t see enough of the humor some of the other reviewers did and I don't think I enjoyed it as much as I would've had I known what I was getting into.
Now I need something light hearted to counter this.

I finished my A&R book earlier this week. I just have to take the time to write up my thoughts.

Series: Vesik #1
Shelf: Armed & Ready
Read: 14 July
Rating: 3★
Review:
Days Gone Bad had elements that reminded me of some of my favorite UF series. However, the story read as if it were further in the series rather than the first, which normally sets up the world and characters for the reader. At times, I felt as if there was information I'd missed but hadn't.
Vesik is an interesting male lead, but I would've expected him to be a bit more skilled and knowledgeable about his abilities. Much of his necromancy tutoring is unknown with only some of the history with his master (mentor/necromancy trainer) Zola explained. Vesik has a diet similar to mine several years ago - junk food, sodas, and a passion for chimichangas. He always seemed to be heating the tasty treats or snacking.
I did like the darker feel to the book. The fairies living in Vesik's grandfather clock reminded me a lot of Rachel Morgan's pixies. They accompanied him into battles and were kick-ass. I liked them a bit more than any other character, including Vesik. With that in mind, I'm not entirely sure if I'll continue the series or not.

I still have around 9 hours of listening time and I won't be doing it in one sitting.

I totally enjoyed this book. surprised me that I did. I listened to the audiobook on the drive to work. Was a good choice. Many lol moments. They (Sarah and David) always have this silly arguments amidst of the zombie apocalypse. First they were ok, moments later they were fighting then they'll make up. They've used what was taught to them during their marriage counseling and ways they learned thru watching zombie movies to survive the zombie apocalypse. I also find the quotes on each chapters very amusing. Gives you the idea of each chapter
Interested enough to read the next in the series.

I love it when a book surprises me. Glad you liked it, Rosina. :) I have that one TBR, but might check the library for the audio since you liked listening to it.

Oh, I am and absolutely not doubling the reading speed. Voices like James Marsters are just too damn fine to waste.

WORD
Um... I mean... I quite agree. :)

I was not expecting to like "Shadowboxer" as much as I did. FYI: It's a pretty angsty book. The horrific crap that Mia went through (and put herself through) made my heart hurt. The decisions she made because of her past made me want to throttle her at times. To be blunt, she was super duper fucked up in the head. But that's okay because I still adored her. Tray/Fox? I liked him too, even though he could be such an obtuse idiot at times. The sexytimes? They set my freaking Kindle on fire. *LL fans self* I liked pretty much all of the supporting characters (including Mia's sister Carly) so YAY! Definitely gonna read the sequel!

You only need either the H or h to be headless if there is more than 1 person on the cover.

What she said.^
I've got a book picked out if what I want doesn't work but I thought I'd ask: can a cover with two hands count or does it have to be torsos?

Thanks for the prompt response Sandra, you sexy thing, you. ^_^

Series: The D.I.R.E. Agency #1
Shelf: Headless H/h
Read: 20 July
Rating: 4★
Review:
Agent I1: Tristan introduces us to Tristan, an agent with The D.I.R.E. (Defense, Intelligence and Reconnaissance Enforcement) Agency. Ever since Scotty first beamed characters on and off the Enterprise, I've been fascinated with teleportation. And, over the years, I've read about many different forms of I-wish-I-could-do-that jumps from here to there. In this novel, as a result of scientific enhancements, Tristan has the ability to not only "... teleport from one place to another with the scan of a thumbprint on his armband", but also become completely invisible. Love it! Double the fun!
Aidan, Tristan's friend and former BUD/S teammate, calls in a favor. He wants Tristan to use his unique abilities to stop Aiden's older sister's wedding. Knowing he owes his friend, Tristan agrees and teleports Rachel from her bridal suite straight to his home in the Virgin Islands.
As a D.I.R.E. Agent, Tristan has always been told by his boss, Mitchell, that he couldn't afford the complications that came with close relationships. So, he's kept himself distanced from others and focused all his energy on his missions. However, this mission is quite personal and he feels himself drawn to Rachel the more time he spends with her.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. In fact, I read it in one sitting. I am looking forward to reading more about the agents in The D.I.R.E. Agency.

Hit the Road: Dire Needs by Stephanie Tyler
Date Read: 09/07/2014
Rating: ★★
Review:
How to review this book. There is nothing inherently wrong with it: The Dires (superior breed of alphas) are charged to protect their weaker cousins, the Were wolves. They are persecuted by a merry band of humans, the weretrappers, that have allied themselves with witches and demons. Each Dire has an ability to help him or curse him depending on the Brother. My main problem with this book is the writing style and that there are better series out there than this one.
The author has a clear love for the Black Dagger Brotherhood and the Demonica series. The problem is that she tried to emulate them with a varying degree of success. I'll just list my complains and leave it at that.
Eidolon from Underworld General Hospital is mentioned 3 times but never make an appearance. How come a friendly demon gets into a story where ALL the demons are soul-damning, possessing ones so in essence the bad guys?
Humans are scums of the earth but the Dire must protect them because they are charged to protect the Weres and their secrecy. I heard you the first 25 times, no need for repetition and move on with the story.
With 6 Dires brothers there are so many POV changes. There is a way of doing this that does not give me whiplash every time, needs better transitions.
For century old warriors they do have the mental capacity of frat boys pretending to be an island.
The Dires are so consumed by their own ideals that they forgot character development and try to appear more than one dimensional, a little world building would have been nice too.
Even if not much happens in this book there is a story with doomsday proportions, you might like it if you have not read the above mentioned series in my review.
