I did a re-read of the 1st book as a refresher and I'm glad I did as really, the story just continued on, just with different MC. All the old gang was there and the Corvus Pack storyline is ongoing.
So, the man-whore Gage, tiger shifter, Special Ops, broke up with the human girl Elena (Sgt Demos, MP), in a very nasty way, two years before Big Bad Bite (first book). He has come to regret this and would love to fix it but doesn't know where she is.
Elena, meanwhile, heartbroken, has found out she is an Amazon and has convinced herself she is better off without Gage, but she is a shell of her former badass self. Elena and her 2 sisters now working for Amazon International, need to find Gage's sister as she has been accused of murder.
It was fun to see Gage decide how he was going to get Elena back in love with him, so he could mate her and live happily ever after. Elena, who loved nothing more than guns and flamethrowers and getting on her older sister, Chloe's, last nerve; her eye twitching when she was about to go psycho and she was also convinced that a hairy spider was stalking her. She tried numerous times to kill it, even with said flamethrower.
Looking forward to Kent & Chloe's story next.

Good Job!! :D

I stopped reading that series after

I finished Shield of Winter - I thought it was just awesome! I'm reading

Book: The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires by Molly Harper
Shelf: Supified
Date Finished: 6/12/14
Rating: ★★★1/2
3.5*s but I'm rounding up because Molly Harper's books are so darn funny. Set in the same world as the Jane Jameson books, Iris is a little more down to earth than Jane. For one thing, she doesn't end up clinging to the ceiling upside down at any point in time. She was Jane's wedding planner in the last book of that series. Iris is human but she's involved in the vampire wold as a concierge for the undead. She has little to no contact with her clients, running their daytime errands and always out of their homes by sunset. That's until she takes Cal on as a client and finds him poisoned on the floor of his rental.
Iris is a typical Molly Harper heroine (that's a good thing). She's smart & sarcastic but with problems that make her human. She's trying to raise her teenage sister while trying to grow her business and avoid becoming a snack for any of her clients. Cal is a bit harder to get to know. He's a very old vampire and used to keeping to himself. If there's a weak part of the book it's probably that Cal keeps so much to himself that you don't really see them fall in love. There's an attraction, then a separation, then boom they're in love. And while that is a weakness, it's not really a bit one. Molly Harper books are fun with sarcastic and witty dialogue and secondary characters who bring the funny as well. In the end, I think I like the Jane Jameson series a bit better but this was still a fun and entertaining book.

The majority of the cover must be green or teal.
Remember, any cover of the book you read qualifies.

I'm close to finishing Naked Werewolf. That is if I can stop looking at World Cup...
Anyway, I picked

Of course it will! I knew when I broke down and read it last week whatever shelf was called this week would fit it. No regrets - I loved Vasic and Ivy!

Darkness Hunts by Keri ArthurShelf #4 ~ 8/6/14: 'Supefied'
Date finished: 6/11/14
Rating: ★★★★☆
Thoughts:
Risa has been coerced by her father to find certain keys...that all manner of creatures want and that with the wrong use, condemn humanity to a soulless existence. While dealing with this quest, she attracts the attention of a serial killer...who leads her into a game by tempting her to stop him as he is ultimately trying to catch her.
Reaper Azriel is by her side, and their attraction continues to grow, though the risks for them, and Azriel in particular, are high. His attempts at distance could also be fatal for Risa.
So, as tension mounts, the story rockets on. The book ends with resolution on a couple of things, but it took me by surprise! I devoured it, and did a "Whoa...the book is over!" when I got to the last page. Next is being downloaded today! (Now to hold off for an appropriate shelf...)

So this is one of those books that I think I'd rate more highly if I didn't write a review. If you asked me when I finished what I thought I would have said that I enjoyed it. It's got a lot of Charley's typical snarky humor, great interactions with Cookie and some things going on in the supernatural world that promise more intrigue to come. And all of those things are true, but the more I thought about it the more some other things annoyed me.
I've always had a difficult relationship with some of the humor in this series. Sometimes, like when Charley and Cookie are bantering it really works for me. And the random t-shirts and sayings at the beginnings of the chapter make me giggle. But there are times when the books take a more serious tone and I find the humor jarring. I think sometimes there isn't enough time before the one liners start flowing. I'm all for some gallows humor but to go right from abused kids to wacky one-liners is too much of a shift for me at times. This doesn't happen in every book, it did in this one.
The thing that really bothered me is a pretty big spoiler so I'm just going to tag the whole thing. (view spoiler) Without spoilers I'll just say that Charley makes some choices and has some reactions that I find at odds with her characterization of someone who helps people.
So I'm kind of back to feeling how I felt at the beginning of this series. There are things that work for me and things that really don't. The things that didn't work weren't as present in books 3 & 4 so those remain my favorites. In many ways, this book is a set up for things to come and there are some pretty big revelations at the end. It's certainly a series I'll keep reading but it's back to the library for the supply.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Harper is a go to for me. I spend more time laughing than I do reading. I think that is why it took me a while longer to read this book.
I liked Anna/Tina and Caleb together and I liked them apart.
The subject of spousal abuse was handled really well. I found myself cheering A/T on even if she chose to keep running and not to go home with Caleb. But since we all know that wouldn't have happened in the book, it was great seeing the two back together again.
Now to see what happened with Glenn when he eventually finds her.
I have mixed feelings about what happened to him. I wanted the weasel to suffer a little harsher than what he got. But I guess that isn't realistic and the more I think about it, the more I think Harper did the right thing with the way she handled it.
This book had the feeling of the series being over. I hope not.

It's slow but steady for my read this week. I've been so tired lately and haven't read as much as I've wanted to. World Cup isn't helping either because I'm using that for my mental recharge time instead of reading about Lord Hate and how he's going to charm Reina.

My book is good, gotta focus and get it done :)

Shield of Winter by Nalini SinghShelf #5 ~ 15/6/14: 'Green/Teal Cover Colour'
Date finished: 6/16/14
Rating: ★★★★★
Thoughts:
Anything by Nalini Singh is automatically on my pre-order list, and I'm never disappointed. Ditto this time.
Silence has fallen, but just barely, and everyone is a little unsure about what this new version of the world will be. Not to mention, the Psy-net is still diseased...Es might be the key, but will they learn enough in time? And can the general population hold it together long enough for them to do so?
Vasic and the Arrows are charged with protecting the Es from potential backlash and assassination attempts, etc., which is how he first meets Ivy Jane. Ivy very happily throws off the shackles of Silence, they weren't that strong anyway thanks to her E designation. Her learning curve is also a learning curve for Vasic that leads to a satisfying end. And leaves us looking forward to finding out what will happen next!

Around, but crazy busy. I'm also leaving town in a couple of more hours to for a weekend meeting, and really looking forward to it!
That means, I won't be home until too early on Monday, then heading off to work. So, chances of hearing from me until Monday night or so are slim (but will peek in on Sunday morning...have the reader loaded for the travel time).
Read, read, read! Looking forward to seeing more stamps on our card! *wink*

A Local Habitation
Week: #5
Shelf: Green/Teal Colour Cover
Date: 19/6/14
Rating: ★★★★
Since the last book Toby has had her PI licence reinstated, and has been doing small jobs and surviving.
Sylvester her liege lord drops in and requests she goes to see his niece, the Countess January of Tamed Lightning, cause she hasn't been returning his calls for the last 3 weeks. Oh, and would she mind taking the Page Quentin with her so he can get some field training. So a simple babysitting job.
Nothing is ever simple with Toby. When Toby & Quentin arrive at Fremont (Tamed Lightning) they face a smiling group of fae who don't trust them an inch and lots and lots of cats. The business of Tamed Lightning is computer software and hardware that works in Faerie and it is sandwiched between 2 powerful fiefs, one being Sylvesters', the other being Riordans'. It doesn't take too long for Toby to discover there have been 2 previous murders, when a third happens just after they get there.
There is trouble with the phones, no one trusts Toby or Quentin, what is Alex/Terri, are the murders political or business related or something else entirely, and why is there a Dryad in the computers?
I really like the world Seanan McGuire has created but I do agree with other reviewers that Toby seems to be clueless regarding Tybalt being besotted with her, which is obvious to everyone but her. She doesn't make a lot of good decisions in this case, though in fairness, no one tells her what is going on but a lot of people including her get hurt or killed.
Looking forward to the next one.

I will admit that I read that your reader is loaded for time travel instead of the other way around.

Any book you like as long as it is at least 200 pages and isn't a graphic novel.

I've been drinking wine and watching the World Cup so I'll make sure everything is updated tomorrow. I'm not trusting myself with details at the moment. :)

There were too many characters with too much going on to try and concentrate on Reina and Jarvis. Like the first book, the forced funny made me roll my eyes.
Death was fun. His part in the story is what kept me going. I want his jewelry collection. Maybe not the penis ring, but I'd like a look through the rest of it.
For me, this book was so over the top that at first I was thankful I was finally finished with it. After taking a reading break and watching World Cup for a few hours, I'm remembering some of what I read and it's not all that bad.
Basically, I didn't appreciate this book or the humor of it all. I like Rowe's books, just not this one. There's only one more book left to read and the cover is blue.
