R9: Team #3 ~ Reading Ménage..rie

I love the Lupi series too! I could never get why this series is not so popular. Such a rich world and well developed characters! I'm one of those who finish new books in this series the day it is out, and then wait for a whole year for another book. Sigh!

Basically a carbon copy of book #1.
The world building is still lacking with no new information provided on the background of the Amoveo race. As mentioned in my review of the previous book, the Amoveo simply have too many abilities, all of which have been done before and none of the characters are unique in any way.
The writing is excessively descriptive and often repetitious while the suspense plot is underdeveloped with a mediocre villain whose motivation is unclear - is it revenge for a perceived rejection or a purist ideology?
The notion that Kerry feels excruciating pain at being touched has tremendous potential both for the plot and the romance. Unfortunately, it contributes nothing to either. Not only is there zero chemistry between the leads, but there is no real basis to their romance other than the fact that they are fated mates.
In terms of characterization, Kerry accepts every new piece of unusual information without question, which makes her appear naive and gullible. Dante might be sexy but other than that has nothing going for him. His possessive alpha act is not believable and he does not live up to the animal traits implied by his alternate form - surely a fox is cunning enough to stay out of obvious traps?
All in all, weak world building, a lackluster romance and an inadequate suspense plot. I’m simply not interested enough in the world or the characters to continue with the series.

Wild Cat was also on your list and it..."
Ended up sticking with Untouched - should have gone with Wildcat :0(

I'm convinced! Adding it to the TBR.

No worries Danielle. Its early days yet :0)

Shelf #3 ~ 1/6/14: 'Yellow/Orange Cover Colour'
The majority of the cover must be yellow or orange.

Book: The Vampires of Soldiers Cove by Jessica MacIntyre

Review:
Interesting twist on vampires and the other creatures, satyrs and nymphs, in the Soldiers Cove universe. Rachel has been plagued by voices in her head all her life and isolated herself from others due to her "mental illness". She has been discovered by a vampire Gavin who has admired her for years, and asked to turn her. Being vampire changes her curse into a gift to their clan. Other members do not feel the same due to some prejudice that is vaguely explained and they wish have her destroyed. Internal battles are placed on hold as a bigger threat has returned with a revenant zombie army to challenge the vampire clan. I have mixed feelings on this new series.... This is more of a 2.5 star read for me. Much of the first part was like lessons for "Vampires 101" and much was hidden from the newly turned Rachel which made the story feel awkward at times. She was accountable even though vampire politics were never explained, again awkward. Then I always hate storylines that involve rape, and it wasn't necessary IMO nor handled very well. Her romance with Gavin also runs hot and cold. This was a fast moving read and the second half picked up and improved as new characters were introduced. Still a few odd tidbits are added into the story but never really tied in, but I'm hoping this is first book issues. I'm interested enough to continue with the series to see where it goes.

The Source by JD Horn has some really good atmosphere. Hot and steamy Savannah, Georgia is the backdrop to this story about witches vying for power. At the center of the story is Mercy Taylor of the powerful Taylor witch family. Mercy is just coming into her powers under the watchful eye of Mother Jilo. I love how the author draws from different sources to create his story. There's a golem from Jewish lore, fae lore from Europe, and the hoodoo from the south. There's some fantastic revelations about Mercy and her family in this one. Make sure that you read The Line first.

Review:
Ron Raven, a successful and respected businessman, is missing and presumed dead, but this is merely the tip of the iceberg because Ron is also a bigamist. Not only has he scammed his separate families for more than two decades, he has also conned his brother-in-law out of three million dollars. As the Raven and Fairfax families struggle to come to terms with Ron’s betrayal, his daughter, Megan, and brother-in-law, Adam Fairfax, must work together to locate the missing millions.
The suspense plot has such tremendous potential. Unfortunately, the writing is long-winded, repetitive and redundant - too much telling and not enough showing. By the time the villain and motive are revealed, it is difficult to care one way or the other.
The romance doesn’t fare much better as Megan and Adam have very little chemistry and don’t even meet until halfway through the book.
All in all, an excellent premise but the writing is so poor that I’ve no interest in continuing with the series.

Just started

We need 1 more review for the Free Space and the Shifter shelf and 2 more for the Yellow/Orange cover.

Week 2
Book:

Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5

Review:
This is my first time reading an erotica with a full on menage pair. I've read other ero by Eve Langlais so I knew to expect humor, snark, and hot scenes. She definitely delivered in this story of Naomi, Javier and Ethan.
Naomi does not want a shifter mate. She wants a human because she is tired of how rowdy shifters can be... she basically wants some boredom in a life full of drama growing up with really rowdy brothers.
As Fate would have it, she is paired with two shifter males as her mate, friends and teammates Ethan and Javier. Ethan is the big one, the bear... but acts more like a teddy. Javier is the smoother talker, panty dropper one, who gets reformed by his feelings for Naomi.
Cue the insta lust followed closely by insta love... for the guys. Naomi for majority of the book wanted to get her rocks off with the guys but no commitment. Any way they do nice things for her to win over, which works. I figured out the mystery about half way through the book but it was nice to have it so the boo isn't complete fluff and sex.
May read book 2 in the future. I have so many books already.

Halfway to the Grave by Jeanniene Frost
finished: 6/4/14
★★★★
This is my first time reading this author or series. I have seen others reading it for years so I have been meaning to pick it up for a while. I have mixed emotions about it all, I both loved and hated Cat and Bones' relationship and how the book ended. I will definitely continue on with the series to see how it continues though. I really hated Cat's mom and how she treated Cat, which is part of why I hated the ending of this book.

Shelf #4 ~ 8/6/14: 'Supefied'
(any type of supernatural on the cover - fangs, werewolf, werecat, angel/demon wings, zombie, etc)
Whichever supe you pick must be demonstrating their power, no hunky human-looking supes allowed.

I'm so jealous that you have a copy already! Our house is anxiously awaiting this one.

Thanks Sandra :D I had a feeling it got better since I see lots of bingo players read these each round which is why I figured I would read on. I even tried to see if book two had a cover that worked this week with no luck.
In picking out this week's book, I had gotten it free and saw that lots of GR friends had really liked it.

Thanks, Danielle. I'll put in out stamp request and you can update the post later.

Another fantastic book in Eileen Wilks World of the Lupi series. If you have not yet started this series, what are you waiting for? Mortal Ties is book 9 in the series. These books must be read in order and the first book is Tempting Danger. This is an awesome series with werewolves, magic, dragons, and one of the most kick ass grandmothers ever.
The author builds an intricate world where magic has gone a little crazy. The main character Lily is a touch sensitive; she is able to sense magical powers of others by touch. Because of her power, Lily is unaffected by magic. Lily is of Asian descent, and herein lies one of the best parts of the background story - Lily's grandmother who is an enigma in her own right. Lily's better half is Rule Turner who is a werewolf and the Lu Nuncio (heir to) the Alpha position (Rho). The werewolves all revere The Lady, who is a kind of god to them. Lily is very special as she is one of the Chosen.
I wont' go into what happens in this installment because I don't want to spoil. Let's just say that there is a crazy, power hungry magical villain, a ghost, some sidhe, and lots of fur flying. This is an action packed series and well worth the read.
Highly recommended.
