Staci | 1071 comments Falling into Place by Hattie Kauffman
Falling Into Place A Memoir of Overcoming by Hattie Kauffman
Read: October 16-18, 2016
Rating: Four Stars
Review:
Falling Into Place is a memoir written by Hattie Kauffman, the first Native American journalist to file a report on a national network evening news broadcast. Her story is both heart wrenching and heart warming. Hattie Kauffman had a very rough childhood. Thankfully, she had a God who loved her when she didn't know him and an Aunt Teddy that spoke the word and actions of Christ into her life.

Hattie's memoir is much more about her journey to God than about her ascension in news media.

While some reviewers disliked the frequent switch from past to present tense, I enjoyed the way Hattie shared her story.

Tangled Webs (Men of Valor #3) by Irene Hannon
Read: October 19-21, 2016
Rating: Four Stars
Review:
In this final book of the Men of Valor series, we get to spend time with the youngest brother: Finn. Finn has PTSD and is spending a few weeks at an isolated cabin in Mark Twain Forest. His closest neighbor is Dana. Sparks are soon flying between them.

As in other Hannon novels, the villain is revealed early on. What I liked the most about this novel was the character of the police chief. He was in a difficult situation and going through his decisions and consequences was rewarding. What would we do if in his shoes?

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Rel of Relz Reviews and Publisher Revell. I was not required to post a review and the opinions expressed are my own.

All for a Story (All For, #2) by Allison Pittman
Read: October 21-23, 2016
Rating: Three Stars
Review:
After fully enjoying All For a Song, I was a bit disappointed with All For a Story.

It took me several chapters to figure out the formatting (perhaps only a Kindle version issue). Once I figured out the formatting, I settled in and started to enjoy Max and Monica's story. Max inherited a publication that shares the fringes of society. Monica is happily living on the fringes. Max bring propriety to the publication and influences Monica's actions.

It was a good story and I look forward to continuing this series with All For a Sister.

A Fool and His Monet (Serena Jones Mystery, #1) by Sandra Orchard
Read: October 23-25, 2016
Rating: Four Stars
Review:
Wow! Is this the same author?

I've also read Deadly Devotion by Sandra Orchard and found that suspense novel to be just o.k. Clearly, she has found her sweet spot in comedic mystery. A Fool and His Monet was super cute.

Main character Serena Jones is an FBI Agent that specializes in art crimes. While solving the mystery was a strong part of the novel, the characters were even stronger. Serena's mom just wants her to be safe and get married. Serena's Aunt Martha is a hoot. She involves herself how she can in solving crimes. And then there were the numerous men in Serena's life that could be viable mates for her.

It was just plain fun to read this novel and I highly recommend it.

Staci | 1071 comments The Imposter by Suzanne Woods Fisher
The Imposter (The Bishop's Family #1) by Suzanne Woods Fisher
Read: October 22-28, 2016
Rating: Three Stars
Review:
Amish/Mennonite Fiction with a couple of exceptions (Jolina Petersheim and Bob Hostetler) is not a genre I typically read. However, I won two Amish Fiction books as part of a book bundle so wanted to give this series a try. While I was not awash in pleasure while reading The Imposter, it was a good novel.

In the Imposter, David is a widowed minister trying to maintain integrity in Stoney Ridge. His son Jesse is getting into trouble while trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life. David's daughter Katrina is also trying to find her path in life after a buggy accident which killed her mother. David's struggles in the church were believable and he handled them well. Katrina's story had a rather large surprise and I was hitting internet search engines after nearly dropping the book in that part of the novel.

I'll continue their story in The Quieting.

A Lady Most Lovely (Love's Grace, #2) by Jennifer Delamere

Read: October 26-30, 2016
Rating: Three Stars
Review:
A Lady Most Lovely is about Lizzie's brother Tom, who is a bit rough around the edges having not been raised among the wealthy. He is quickly enamored by Margaret Vaughn. Her main focus in maintaining her land. Their romance is certainly not traditional, but has a very sweet ending.

I look forward to continuing the series.

Another Way Home (Chicory Inn #3) by Deborah Raney
Read: October 29-31, 2016
Rating: Four Stars
Review:
This is my favorite of the Chicory Inn Series so far.

Danae is the second oldest in her family. She and Dallas have watched for years as her other siblings had planned and unplanned children. All the while, they have been praying and going through fertility treatments to have a child of their own.

This novel was a great example of how we have our plans and God has His. Another Way Home was an engaging read and one that just might bring a tear to your eye.

I look forward to the next in the series.

Staci | 1071 comments Hannah's Choice by Jan Drexler
Hannah's Choice (Journey to Pleasant Prairie, #1) by Jan Drexler
Read: November 1-4, 2016
Rating: Four Stars
Review:
Hannah's Choice is set in 1842 Pennsylvania. The story provides insight into the differences between Amish and Mennonite faiths and lifestyles. Learning about those differences was my favorite part about the novel.

Main character Hannah is torn between Adam, a Mennonite friend since childhood and Josef, a newcomer that shares her Amish faith. Both men have traits that cause her to pause. While I could relate to the questions she had about each of them, the ultimate romance that buds fell a bit short for me.

Secondary storylines were with Hannah's mother Annalise and Hannah's sister Liesbet. Annalise suffers from depression following the loss of three young children. Liesbet wants to escape what she seems as the stifling Amish life. Both of their journeys were engaging and believable.

Overall I enjoyed this novel and look forward to the next in the series.

Same Kind of Different as Me by Ron Hall
Read: November 5-6, 2016

Review:
What a touching story.

The Same Kind of Different as Me is written by two men with their voices or perspectives on what has transpired shared chapter by chapter. Ron Hall is an affluent art dealer. Denver Moore is a homeless man that has never spent a day in school. Their story is profound and and emotional.
