You might want to try the
byJennifer Chiaverini. It is about women from Pennsylvania that are about to send their men to the Civil War and how they support them.
Hi Kathryn, in addition to my local library's online search engine. I have found this to be an excellent resource for my book searches and thought I would pass it on. http://www.worldcat.org/An additional feature that I like about it is that it will give you the citing for any book you are using in research according to several different style guides. This may help your search or also help you get more info on a title mentioned by someone else.
Can anyone recommend a book in the manner of Hackett's "The Third World War" and Palmer's "The War That Never Was" dealing with another Arab-Israeli War - basically a detailed fictional history rather than a novel?
Hi Phil, I am not sure if it fits what you are looking for but a book I read by Trevor Dupuy came to mind when I read your post. It is entitled Future Wars: The World's Most Dangerous Flashpoints. Take a look at a synopsis and see if it fits what you are looking for.

Recommendations needed - WW2 Eastern Front
Hi there
I'm fascinated in books about the Easte..."
I wonder whether you might like this: The Forgotten Soldier. It's engendered quite a bit of argument over the years as to whether it's really a true story. For what it's worth, I think it is.
Perhaps even better, though a little to the side of your subject: The Train Was on Time. I think this is not just one of the best German novels I have read, but one of the greatest novels to come out of the Second World War.
Bryan wrote: "Linda, maybe you could read a diary. Here are some options:
by Mary Boykin Chesnut ..."Thank you very much! I looked through all of these & put them on my TBR list. In fact, I already bought some!
Some books I have on the Eastern front of WWII that I have enjoyed. For Jack mentioned above.

Try this one, Doreen. I have not read it but it looks like what you may be looking for.

Thanks Jill and Jerome very much for the info! They all look good and I think I may add all of them to my to-read list.
It appears that there is little to nothing written about Crown Prince Sado, except for the book you mentioned. He is of course mentioned in several books on the history of Korea but I couldn't find anything that was specifically dedicated to him.BTW, don't forget you book citations, Kathryn. Thanks.

Hello,
I am about to finish the "The First Muslim" by Lesley Hazleton and like it very much. It comes off unbiased and well researched. I enjoy how she takes an educated approach on many subjects but doesn't berate Islam or Muhammad. I am looking for other books on religion that do the same. I am looking for the historian approach to religious history. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am sure that this question may have been answered in earlier posts. I have read many books on the Holocaust and the Soviet Gulag. I am woefully ignorant of the battles. I have been reading
by
Rick Atkinson to get a clearer view of the military operations in the European Theater, and I know I will need to read more in this area.I would like to do some reading on the Pacific Theater. Any recommendations would be gratefully received.
Thank you
These two are on my to-read list, Karen:
by Dan van der Vat (no photo)

Another book which might give you a basic beginning to the Pacific theater is one that I just finished which although it is not solely concentrated on the Pacific, the majority of it is. It relates to the time when America was losing the war to Japan. I recommend it.

Here is another good one: Concentrates on the Naval Battles of the Pacific: 1941-42

Since I just watched "American Hustle" I want to learn more about Abscam. I would have been only about 10-12 years old then, so I don't recall much other the name. I did a search here in the group posts and got nothing! And I was surprised, this group seems to have recommendations for everything! So anyone have any Abscam recommendations? I think the movie was based on a book, I'll have to go do some Googling.

Thank you Jerome. I did some searching on Amazon too and there is just not much out there. Maybe not a big enough scandal to generate interest? Many of the documents on Amazon are Government public domain things. The Greene book is what the movie is (apparently loosely) based on.
Getting back into studying social work. I originally studied it in Kansas. Had to move back to my home state Missouri - because of lack of finances to finish school. Now, I am living in Georgia. Not sure where to begin.

There are so many good books on the Holocaust, here are a couple that I felt everyone should read.
For a good personal memoir, I recommend
by
Elie WieselFor a book on a concentration camp, I recommend
by
Jean-François SteinerFor a good overview, I recommend The Holocaust: A History of the Jews of Europe During the Second World War by Martin Gilbert (no cover), (no photo).
A book that I just started is
by Saul Friedländer, (no photo ). It seems to be quite good so far.
Hi Quanjun - Reading on the Holocaust is no easy task, and there is a lot of material out there, it can be hard to know where to start. Karen gave you some worthy recommendations, so let me add that no matter what you select, Night by Elie Wiesel is outstanding. It is a personal account - not many of those - and can be very difficult to read because of the content but Wiesel writes incredibly well and with great heart and compassion. The story will tell you a lot about the totality of the Holocaust.
