One more and I'll leave you alone. :-)
From the podcast I listen to regularly (New Books in History):

"It’s a great introduction to the subject, and it’s full of smart analysis for people who are already familiar with the movement. If you want a guide through the alphabet soup of UN treaties, international conferences, and NGOs relating to women, this is a good place to look. But more importantly, it’s also a succinct overview of the big issues: violence against women, reproductive health, armed conflict, development, and the impact of religious fundamentalisms."

I highly recommend this book if you are curious about the known facts of the Salem Witch Trials between February 1692 and May 1693 in colonial Massachusetts. Nineteen were hung, one was pressed to death and another fifty confessed to being witches and so were not executed. It is a YA book, but it is clear, informative and not childish.

Falklands:

Nagorno-Karabakh:

I know of:

Also for the Iran-Iraq war there is

But this talks of many other subjects in the Middle East as well

Hi Leslie,
Here's a few nonfiction books to try:

Enjoy!
Judy

Thanks so much!

Hi Michael
I just got this book to read myself, so I haven’t read it yet, but I have read other books by this author and I’ve enjoyed them.

I'm looking for books about Hundred Years War, but, as I'm french, I would like to read books dealing with the english side in this war. Does somebody have any ideas ?

There is a great three volume history on the Hundred Years War that may interest you:

Otherwise I recently finished reading the two books by Juliet Barker that you should enjoy:

Hi,
I'm actually looking for a book for my mother. What I need is a comprehensive, but easily readable book on the history of United States. My mother has lived here in the US for more than 30 years now, but she was born in Chile, and as such never had the opportunity to actually study and appreciate US history in school. She wants to fill in her knowledge gap and I'd love to buy her something that will remedy the situation.

I'm working on a paper about the diplomacy in the beginning of the Hundred Years War. I currently have in my reference library:

I'm trying to find a few more books that discuss the strain between Edward III and Philippe VI. Thanks!!

If you amend your post I will delete this one. Once you get the hang of it it becomes second nature.

I am reading Philippa Gregory's The Constant Princess and I am really enjoying it. I am looking for recommendations on non fiction books about Catherine of Aragon and that time period.

I have a copy of this book on Catherine of Aragon but have not read it yet:

Hi Carly
Check out Alison Weir she’s written a number of books on the Tudors you might be interested in:

I did find this:

While looking for the book I did find this great podcast that interviews authors of new history books. Here is the link to the one on The Making of Yosemite: http://newbooksinhistory.com/2012/04/...

I also loved McCullough's writing and support Craig's suggestions, but check out his one too:

Hi Jason.
Great attempt at citation. If a book has a bookcover, you don't need a book link. The "no photo" uses (), not []

Go ahead and edit your message and I will also see if I can remember any books for you.

Excellent recommendation, Chrissie.
You have the wrong McCullough cited, though. It is David McCullough:

Jason, the best I could find is a link to the park's book page:

Great link Bryan! Thanks! Anyone else have something they have read on Yosemite history?

Of course you are right! I fixed it. I shouldn't try and do anything until I have really woken up! :0)

Hi Laney - I highly recommend The Worst Hard Times by Timothy Egan. A brilliantly written and researched book about the Great Dust Storm. Enjoy!

I picked up the following book while I was in Yosemite a couple of years ago, and found it very interesting. Don't let the title mislead you -- there's a lot of text to go with the wonderful photos.
The Yosemite Grant, 1864-1906, a Pictorial History, by Hank Johnston.
Hope this helps.

Hi M.M., I see you just introduced yourself on our intro thread and our response includes guidelines about our book citation format. We always use the add book/author feature located above the comment box to add the book cover, author photo (when available) and author link. The book you mentioned should look like this:

In this case there was no author photo so we designate that with the (no photo) next to the hyperlink. It is easy once you get the hang of it, so let any of the moderators know if you need a hand. We are here to help. We use this feature so that folks can quickly look up the book to see reviews, or add it to their TBR list if they choose. It also tracks where the book is mentioned on the GR site which many people find informative.
Thanks for adding this recommendation.

Hi Karen! ~ Since you are new to the group you should pop over to the intro thread and tell us a little about your interest in history. Here is the thread: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
We do have club guidelines including using the add book/author feature for posting books so people can see what you are referring to. It is easy once you get the hang of it. Instructions and our guidleines can be found in these links:

Thanks M.M!"
You're welcome. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I have a thing for the histories of the various national parks. If you want an excellent read about Yellowstone, you want
