Weekly Tête-à-Tête #3

How many books to you read at the same time?

Lately I've been reading 3 books at a time - I'm not sure how much I like/dislike it yet. I read ebooks but there's been a couple books I haven't been able to get in e-format. So I've been reading a real book, an ebook & an audiobook. At times I feel like having 3 books going at once makes each book drag out and there are times I have a hard time deciding which book to read during my free time.

Elvia (elvb) I only read one at a time...but I usually have them done in a day or two so I usually finish three books in a week. I was thinking about getting into audiobooks so I can listen while doing things (I neglect a lot to read lol). I've never tried an audiobook though so I'm not sure if I'll like it that way...

Audiobooks are great! I neglected a lot of my other hobbies & house work for reading before listening to audibooks too. Now I have my iPod on my hip all day. I don't listen all day - just on & off. When I'm folding laundry or doing dishes I don't feel like I'm wasting valuable reading time if I have my audiobook. :) I think I have an addiction to books - but I guess there's worse addictions out there!

I'm the same way! hehe
If I don't count the books I've started and left with bookmarks in them that I havn't touched in awhile (mostly non-fiction)... then usually I have 2 on the go. Whatever fiction I'm currently reading, and I usually have at least one non-fiction around that I pick up from time to time.

Jessica | 66 comments I usually like to have 2 books going. One full length book and one anthology. Which I read depends on how much time I have and my mood.

Kathryn (kathry) I'm not sure I should anwer this question :) Sometimes I try to cut down but it rarely lasts so I usually give in and pick up whatever I feel like at the time. At the minimum, I'm always reading an e-book, a paperback/hardback, and a graphic novel.

I'm also studying for an upcoming exam so I'm trying to read a bunch of classics, 2 at a time until September, one as an ebook because so many were free here on Goodreads, and one as an audiobook around the house, like Shanon. And then I count group reads as completely separate. :)

Yeah, I think I have a problem but I'm ok with that :)

I also started a plan-to-finish shelf for those books that I was not able to finish for various reasons, like Briansgirl mentioned.

Kathryn, you're Currently Reading shelf NEVER ceases to amaze me! Either I'm the freak for not liking too many books at once or you're the freak for reading so many! hee hee I guess there's a 3rd option where we can both enjoy the freak status for many different reasons :)

I totally forgot about Graphic Novels - I was reading them fairly regularally a while ago but have since lost the drive to sit at the computer to read. I really need to start those again! Although that means I'd have 4 books going at once & an even harder time deciding what to spend my precious free time reading.

Kathryn (kathry) Yes, 3rd option :) And I use to also count books of short stories as separate but I'm not reading any in particular at the moment. I just have a bad habit of reading what I feel at a paticular second and that changes throughout the day :)

message 9: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) I usually have 2 going at the same time. Sometimes 3.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) My non-fiction book tends to change. If I'm no longer in the mood to finish it, I set it aside. I'll get back to it eventually. lol

i can only read one book at a time.. but at times i do stop reading a book and switch to a different one if i am getting bored ... it will take me a while before i will pick it back up again...

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) If it's fiction, I'm like you Stephanie. But with non-fiction, it's easier to put them down. Some of the ones I have are done so that each chapter is short and almost independent of others so if I can't sleep I just read a chapter or two of whichever one interests me the most at the time.

Shannon (theholyterror) | 132 comments It depends on my mood I guess. I don't really set out to read 1 book or 10 books at a time. I just kind of go with the flow. Sometimes I'll read a book from cover to cover before I even think about reading something else, and other times I'll go back and forth between a few.

Right now I've got 4 going. Although only No Rest for the Wicked and The Forest of Hands and Teeth are calling out to me to finish them. (I'll finish the other two this week, really, I will! Argh, crazy reading challenge ...)

When I was a kid I used to get maybe 10 to 15 books out of the library at a time and I'd start them all until one really grabbed me and then I'd read that one until I was done. I guess I still have that same habit to some extent.

I typically have five going at any given time: a non-fiction that may or may not get finished, a classic of some sort, an audiobook for gym/housework/knitting time, an old paperback on my nightstand, and some sort of paranormal fiction. That last one typically only lasts 1-3 days, but the others take longer: from several weeks to months.

message 15: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jessim) I usually read 2 or 3 at a time. I read a regular book, plus one on my Kindle, and sometimes I read e-books on my computer at work.

message 16: by Kaz. (new)

Kaz. I normally have two or 3 going at once as I read a paper back in bed of a night and I read an ebook on my computer, and I also read a book (paperback) with my 2 sons.

message 17: by Kristine (new)

Kristine (knanihughes) I only do one at a time but I finish them usually in a day. The better the book the fewer hours I spend on it. I get really into what I'm reading so I don't want to mix them together. Sometimes that happens anyways.
