Rachel | 6 comments I think the title goes a little something like "Do not read this Mrs. ______".. It's the beginning of the year in highschool and a teacher assigns everyone to write a journal entry every day in her English class. If the student doesn't want her to read it, then put "do not read this Mrs. ______" or whatever. Anyway, the story is written like a student's journal and there are entries. The girl basically writes about her awful life at home and how hard it is and how she has to keep it a secret. Her mother doesn't take care of the her and her younger brother because she's broken and messed up.. Because their abusive father left them and the mom was really reliant on him and has low self esteem. The older sister works hard everyday to take care of her younger brother and get him food, and water. The electricity is out and there's no heat or water or anything. They can't shower or wash their clothes. Friends at her school whisper behind her back that she smells. Eventually the father does come back home one day and the mother is elated. He brings home Christmas gifts but the girl is justifyingly unappreciative, because the dude is still an asshole and doesn't support the family and still beats mom. He's a bad guy. Even with dad back, the girl has to go out to pay bills and is struggling to support the house with her job. Eventually the dad leaves with mom to California without warning but a letter left behind, from mom saying that she went on vacation. The girl is pissed off because she left nothing but $100 and a cheerful, carefree, ignorant letter, and now she's by herself with her brother to take care of. She receives passports from her mother about how much fun they're having. During this whole story the girl always puts "do not read this" In front of each entry, and the teacher responds with a comment, saying how she wishes she could read the entries because of how good of a student she is. At the end, the girl finally can't take it anymore and let's the teacher read the whole thing. As a result, the teacher is forced to take action and call CPS, eventually the girl and her younger brother lead a happier life living with their grandparents.
