I read this books sometime in middle school I think. it might be the second book to a series, because I feel like there was already a lot of information about the characters that didn't need to be explained.

The main character is a girl whose mother had been crushed to death by a truck carrying oranges, she "felt" her mother's death and the smell of oranges has made her sick since. A couple of years later she is living with her mother's sister (her aunt) and her aunts son (her cousin).

She is hanging out with her cousin and his friends when they dare one of his friends to jump, she doesn't want him to because she thinks it's dangerous, and later calls the police. within the scene, she comments on how all the guys (I believe from the same sports team) call each other by their last names.

If anyone has any ideas about what book/series it could be, please let me know. It's been driving me crazy.
